Had never darkened the door before - only ever seen it closed, so presume it had long since closed down.
With Markievicz closed, DCC has extended opening hours for Sean McD pool, so attended for an early morning swim.
Surprise surprise, it's great. Basic in the best possible way - really friendly staff, who wave you into spotlessly clean, retro changing room.
I have a big issue with the "modern" changing cubicles in Ballymun and Santry, National Aquatic Centre and other pools, where you squash yourself into a darkened claustraphobic individual compartment where water, hair, verucca plasters and God knows what else are pooling on the floor, and the best attempts to power hose the floor always misses a bit. If you're lucky enough to go when they're actually cleaning, you can have the pleasure of having your ankles cut off underneath the door by the spray. Don't get me wrong, privacy is great, but much rather have a normal open gender specific changing room where I can see the dry areas of the room, with plenty of space to get changed into togs, and then pick a damp area when getting towelled off and dried. I can walk over to the drain and wring out my togs instead of wringing them out on the aforementioned floor beneath my feet in the cubicle. I like taking my togs off to have a shower - seems common sense in terms of hygiene?! Sean McD had instant strong hot water in individual showers in a wet room adjoining the changing room.
No pissing around with trying to cram your clothes into a locker - you hand your clothes in in a basket and get a rubber band for your wrist.
Pool was busy - all adult exercise goers at that time of the morning, but not so busy you couldn't get an easy spot. Architecturally lovely inside - despite it being busy, felt tranquil. Very friendly life guard.
Extended public opening hours much appreciated DCC - please keep it up - I'll be back! read more
