The parking lot is small but not an issue on the weekdays. There is parking on the streets but it's limited due to permits. The soft play room is a really nice feature that is open Monday-Saturday and is FREE (unlike those in Alexandria). The hours during the week are 8ish-7ish but they close between 2-4pm. Saturday's it's 8ish-4:45pm with no midday closure. I went on a weekday during Thanksgiving week and it was overwhelmingly crowded with children and nannies. Around 12 it cleared out and we got it mostly to ourselves. While there is an employee in the room, she wasn't really monitoring children. Neither were their caregivers and I had to rescue my son multiple times from unruly children. My son is at the age where he loves to crawl around and explore so I'm glad to have this free resource so close to me!

Upon entering you might not think you are in the right place. Most immediately you see soccer fields and public garden plots. Keep on going. You are about to discover one of the DMV's best kept secrets. There's a small tent where the sales are made and staff are available to direct you. You can borrow a wheelbarrow if you're buying a lot. The plants are arranged by letter and number labeled signs. There's a catalogue of sorts on their web page which will show you which row the plant you need is located in. The web page also has current prices. Right now quart pots are $8 each and gallon pots are $20 each for non members. One thing I will say is that it helps to research what the plant will look like when it's mature before purchasing. Most of the plants are quite small to start with but because they are native plants they do take off over time.

The boxing room where my other nephew was training was cramped but it is quite state of the art and had all the necessary equipment and boxing ring. Reviewing the Nest Academy on Mt Vernon: It's scary having…read moreto find a new daycare but I had one video call with the principle and immediately knew this was the place :) The principle is literally your favorite Filipino auntie and her energy is infectious. She works incredibly hard at her job and it shows. And you can tell the whole place is filled with her joy. The staff love working with children and are always happy to welcome you and your child at the beginning of the day and wish you well at the end. There's a strong sense of community here - really fitting within the Del Ray neighborhood. There's even a Fb group for parents to connect and we've used it to announce birthday parties, exchange items and tips, coordinate thank you gestures for the teachers, and dare I say sometimes gently complain! Of course every daycare will have some annoying logistics but at the end of the day, my child is loved and cared for and that's what's important. Also, logistically - they qualify for child care aware for my military families and they have the best hours in the area (7am-6pm). Most other places are 730-530 and that extra 30min on both sides are crucial for my family and our work situation.

Dressing up to go to Sunday School/Church rubbed me the wrong way. If I wasn't comfortable in what I wore, my attention to church was nonexistent. This is when I was much younger. Still today I am glad to see Church goers wearing everyday clothing and not necessarily the monkey suit. Anyhow, after talking with the pastor for the second time, I find him very laid back and cool to talk to. In the back of my mind i wondered what could be today's lesson in church? Today's Lesson: The Storm Have you ever had a personal storm in your life? Well today's lesson. Started out with how weather people...no,...meteorologist decided to name storms after women. This was later changed to men an women's name. Some of the names of selected storms have a deeper meaning than others. The lesson in short was to keep hope in what you do, because without hope, you might be battling a storm physically, mentally or both for a long time. I don't go to Church very often, but this place gives off good vibes even if I still don't know many of the people there. My wife says the main reason for being there is God. Anything else is an added bonus. I am not as into the Lord as she is, but I will say this. The music, how I feel then I am there and the history of lessons learned keep me coming back for more. I find it fascinating how things I learned in school, specifically Western/Eastern Civilization and American History had bites and peices of things I am now hearing from The Bible. I am moving at a snail's pace come paired to my wife. Yet I don't believe there is a set speed for religion. If there is, my God will have to have patience. The experience was not favorable and we concluded that it was just not a good fit for our family. Plus at 9 months, we felt it very important to get her around other children and have more engaged time during the day. Enter the search for childcare in the Washington, DC Metro area!!! eeeeek! I researched, interviewed, and toured over 15(+) schools in DC, MD and VA. We ended up on the waitlist at 4 schools... Flagstone, Madison, ADS and BH Carlyle. Within a month our dd started at Flagstone in the infant room and after the experience with our nanny, needless to say, I was petrified to leave my child with anyone... BUT Miss Keisha, Miss Suriya, Miss I and Miss Dawn were amazing in the infant room! Not only were they kind and gentle with our daughter, but you can tell there was a genuine LOVE for her and all the babies in their care. Over a short period, we really felt apart of the Flagstone family and watched as our daughter flourished into an independent, loving and outgoing little lady. Needless to say, there is not a perfect childcare facility. The place is a bit older and does not have all the bells and whistles of some of the newer day schools in the area. With that said, Flagstone has the BEST outdoor space in Old Town and children go out twice a day. That is super important to our family. Also, most of the staff has been at the school for over 10 years, which is huge in an industry with high turnover. The biggest plus for us is the staff. The teachers and administrators have a genuine LOVE for each and every child, whether they are in their classrooms or not. It truly is a family environment and that is what we want and need in a day school. Since our daughter started at Flagstone, we have received offers from the other 3 schools and politely declined. We LOVE Flagstone and our Flagstone Family!
