The setting is picturesque and beautiful perched on the shore of Loch Tay. In particular, the dining room has stunning views of the lake and various munroes, as do many of the rooms. In fact, the dining room is surrounded on three sides by floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing you to take in the views and admire the scenery! The staff are all extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Three to four staff run various outdoor activities each day, allowing different group members plenty of activities to choose from based on the weather. Last year when I went in January the options included cross-country skiing, kayaking or walking. This year there wasn't much snow so we had mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, or walking as options. The staff work with the level of the group and are focused on outdoor education of those who haven't tried the activities before, but if you are more experienced then they also let you work at your level within the group and do more challenging things. There are two cooks, Rosie and Morag when I was there, who do a great job of keeping everyone well fed to sustain them throughout their many activities. Firbush is a well-oiled machine when it comes to teaching groups the lodge practices and routines, with breakfast at 8:30, making packed lunches after breakfast, and nice evening meals later on. The meal system worked well with everyone pitching in to pick up and clear away dishes and food trays. I have been twice to Firbush with a tango group, and it has been a fantastic experience both times. Firbush is a great way to get away from it all and have a really relaxing and fun weekend in the Highlands at really reasonable prices. Although university members have priority in booking, members of the public are also able to book on and join different programmes here. It was a fantastic experience!

Just be prepared and bring rainwear. We watched mountain bikers riding trails down the mountain. Afterwards we had soup and sandwiches at the cafe. Service was great all around and we had a great time, despite the rain.

Great bike repair!…read more Calum at the bike shop at the resort was quick and friendly - he replaced a frayed cable in ten minutes flat and checked a few other bits and bobs on the bike! He generously gave me some tips for bike maintenance in the future, too.The bike repair shop, located at the bike and ski rental, was a total lifesaver! If not for them, I'd have been waiting a few days longer, cycling with a badly frayed cable. Thanks so much!

There's plenty of parking, mostly under trees providing nice shade on hot summer days. NT members park free, for all others a fee applies, which was fair enough. It's a very nice visitors centre, providing lots of information. A shop, a restaurant, public toilets. Dogs welcome as well. There are some nice picnic tables outside, with breathtaking views over the Glen. We enjoyed our lunch there. What a location! Then there's the Turf House on site as well. Also several trails and paths to enjoy a little walk around the area. A really nice stop, worth spending some time here.

If you are a fan of James Bond this is where he stopped his DB5 in Skyfall. There's some iconic stops at Glencoe and I think once I found the name out I felt like drinking scotch while listening to The Cure and Morrisey. The Visitors Centre has a huge parking lot and a cafe and coffee. There aren't a lot of food options so you may be forced to eat here, it's OK and not stunning. Kids got a hotdog and I liked how all the topping were separate, chips were OK with it. Another good reason to stop here are the public bathrooms. Outside they have a recreation of a traditional house built by locals. I loved this so much and maybe i was in a drinking mood but I could imagine sitting in one of those in a cold and rainy day and enjoying a heavy single malt scotch. There are also some small streams and water the kids liked throwing rocks into.

I am not the outdoor kind of gal, and since we had previously cruised by it on the previous tour- I didn't feel the need to leave the boat. I asked Sean if I could remain on board. He was very kind and said no problem and I was more than welcomed to remain. This hour was absolutely THE BEST PART of the tour! I had the privilege to see some of the Puffins fairly close just floating on the waves, while others were flying very fast in a huge group towards the island. It was a lovely sight to see. Sean was the perfect gentleman and patiently answered all of my questions. He gave me so much insight into various aspects of the tour, like the Puffins habits; fishing for lobster/mussels and the Staffa Boats. Plus, I asked him where I could purchase "local" wool yarn and he told me where to shop. The yarn I purchased was simply perfect and exactly what I was looking for. You're basically in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nothing but beautiful landscapes that Scotland has to offer. A hiker and campers paradise. We didn't stay by stopped for a bite to each while going through Glencoe. Right from the moment of driving into the property, which basically in situated off the road and miles away from anything else. The entrance of stoned wall/gate welcomes you with the Scottish flag flying high above. Down the driveway across the bridge, the hotel greets you. A patch of pine trees to the left and a little lake welcomes you. The main hotel greets is what you see as there are smaller lodges/cabin to the side. We also did notice that there were some camping around the back. Picturesque is not even a word with the nature and beauty of Scotland from the property. Also, there was two deers that was just enjoying the property with not a care in the world as people are snapping pictures of them. Not sure if they tend to stay on property or just wander in every now and then. It's a Mecca for the hikers and campers. As there were loads of them just lounging and having a pint afterwards. When you walk into the lobby, front desk is in-front. To the left is the bar and restaurant. To the right, a lounge seating area with games and books. A study den vibe and the focal point, the large stone fireplace. We stopped off for some food at the bar part. It was pretty busy so tables were pretty much all taken if you had a big group. Menu was limited for the bar area. Didn't have much of what we wanted so kept it pretty easy. Soup, a pint and some haggis balls. Service was just ok, as we think our waiter may have been new. Otherwise, everything was great. Based on hotel, it's a beautiful place. Like mentioned, didn't stay but if you're looking for nature, this is a place to try. They also have pods for those romantic dinner outside. One with nature with what Scotland has to offer.

I wanted to get married in the highlands, and I heard lots of good things about ceremonies in the middle of nature in this area (in Scotland, you can get married anywhere with their free roam law). I let the hotel know in September 2023 I'd be coming for a wedding with my fairly small (large for international travel) group of 15 people, but we wouldn't be using the hotel for their wedding package, etc. They would not give any sort of group discount. I did, however, ask to reserve the dining room for the post wedding dinner, but they said they book that 90 days out. I reached out 90 days from the wedding, and they had already given away the dining room to someone who signed up for their wedding package. While it felt unfair after communicating 6 months out, I scrambled to find another restaurant in the rural area that is Glencoe, praying they'd take a reservation and group my size. In the 3 months prior to my WEDDING, they emailed/ told me on the phone about 5 times that they have a one bride policy!? I had been planning for 6 months to come to their hotel for a special day in my and my husbands life, and now they're telling me that I have to hide all bridal decor, outfits, no ceremonies near the hotel, etc. I have to HIDE that I'm getting married because they brought in a bride later than me. I get that you want it to be special for the "paying" one, although we paid for rooms for 15 people, but how disrespectful can you get? We then had purchased high tea for a pre wedding day bridal party experience. We paid more for the outdoor experience and two weeks prior they canceled due to damage of the domes. That's fine. When we arrived for high tea, the waiter that took care of us did not provide a menu, was annoyed when we asked what tea options there were, and treated us very rudely throughout. The day of my wedding, the host at the restaurant for breakfast asked me if I was with the bridal party, and I said which one? He then proceeded to try to sit me with the other family and I said "sorry we're with a different wedding/group". He then put me in the bar area to eat, where they sat families with dogs. The rest of my bridal party they put in the restaurant without me. It was a very strange and awful experience from this hotel during one of the most special occasions. So sad! I did not let this hotel ruin my wedding for me, but they surely tried.

The perfect location was the Strathassynt Guest House in Ballachulish, next door to Glencoe. Neal, the host met us at the door and made us feel welcome. He helped us find places to explore and suggested making a reservation for dinner at the Laroch Bar & Restaurant next door. The next morning we met other guests in the breakfast room and enjoyed a fantastic full Scottish breakfast (included in the room fee). Trust me on this...get the full Scottish breakfast and give it all a try. It was amazing. The room was clean, quiet and modern. The beds were so comfortable! The guest house has visitor's lounge with movies on DVD, maps, and brochures for all the local interesting sites. Neal, the host and his wife were so friendly and warm, full of Scottish humor and spirit. They offered a wealth of information that really got our vacation started just right.

It's just off the roadway but the site is remarkably quiet and peaceful. I spent a few nights here and felt very much at ease in these beautiful surroundings. The grounds are yours to enjoy, and I found a great deal of relaxation out amongst the wonders of the rural countryside. The facility is operated by such a pleasant couple (German speakers they are, by the way; I seem to recall hearing they were natives of Switzerland), and they'll gladly do all they can to make your stay pleasant. They offer a surprisingly nice breakfast as well. The quality of the bedroom furnishings left a bit to be desired, but I had no problem resting well in spite of that. And the hot shower made up for any deficiency with the bedding, especially after long drives and many hikes.
