The new parent classes have been everything I need. Having a consistent, knowledgeable, caring instructor provides a sense of calm and knowledge to help navigate a truly wild transition. If you can take a class with Liz - DO IT. The most important thing, though, is the community. You're paired with moms and babies all at the same stage, so you've got similar struggles, advice, and real time support. Plus lifelong friends. I came to the family room after finishing a postpartum therapy group and struggling to know where my community was. I'm so happy to find it here. If you're a new parent looking for a place to land and want others who will celebrate and cry with you and become your village, consider The Family Room.

Came for mom community, left for a burrito…read more I joined The Family Room when my daughter was about three months old because I was a happy, exhausted, completely-in-love new mom who genuinely wanted to meet other mothers and socialize my baby. And apparently that was my first mistake. And yes I did attend and am not a fake review or a bot. I had waited so long to become a mom that even the sleep deprivation, middle-of-the-night feeds, and newborn chaos felt like a privilege to me. I was tired, absolutely, but I was also genuinely in bliss. Meanwhile, so much of the conversation seemed to revolve around how miserable everyone was from the lack of sleep and night feeds. I quickly learned that being the mom who was actually happy to be there did not exactly earn you membership into the Cool Moms Club™. I was actually the one who created our group text. I collected everyone's numbers and started it because I genuinely wanted us to stay connected outside of class and have a little community of new moms supporting one another. Ironically, I somehow became the person slowly excluded from the very group I created. As I got busier handling my businesses and couldn't attend every single class, the dynamic gradually changed. Then one of the last moms to join eventually asked me to essentially hand over control of the group chat I had created so they could continue it without me. The audacity was almost impressive. At that point I decided everyone could create their own group chat, wished them well in spirit, blocked the whole situation, and carried on with my life. Nothing quite says "supporting women during one of the most vulnerable transitions of their lives" like staging a tiny corporate takeover of another mother's group text. The part that really bothered me, though, was the lack of support from someone who was actually supposed to be providing it. I came to a lactation specialist with a breastfeeding concern and felt completely dismissed, while the mother sitting right next to me brought up essentially the same issue and received attention and support. I remember sitting there feeling completely invisible. I walked out crying and that was my last class. Shame on you for playing favorites. I was also one of only a couple of mothers breastfeeding, and whether that played into the dynamic, I can't say. But there was definitely an odd competitive energy around everything. My husband came with me to one of the new parent groups, and because space was limited, there were complaints. Then suddenly other husbands started showing up too, and somehow even bringing your spouse to a parenting group began to feel like an Olympic event. The whole experience started feeling less like "new moms supporting new moms" and more like a high school cafeteria with middle school girls rather than women lifting other women up. There was gossip. There was making fun of people. There were obvious cliques. There was a strange obsession with being one of the cool moms. And here I was thinking these babies are blessings why is everyone so miserable to have a baby? Maybe I simply landed in an unfortunate group, and I sincerely hope other mothers have had warmer experiences. But those first months of motherhood are incredibly tender. Women walk into spaces like this hoping to find community, reassurance, and maybe someone who understands what 3 a.m. feels like. No new mother deserves to walk out feeling invisible or deliberately excluded. Eventually, I stopped going. I got myself a burrito instead with my sidekick daughter in tow. The burrito was warm, comforting, dependable, and never once attempted a hostile takeover of my group chat. 10/10 for the burrito. Would absolutely choose it again.

I went on their website and they were offering the first class for free so I signed up. I am so glad that I did. I was 6 weeks postpartum when I attended my first class. I loved it so much that I signed up for the membership. Since then, I have been attending Stroller strides for a minimum of 3 times a week. My baby girl is now almost 5 months. I love that I can get a great workout and have my baby with me at all times and not worry about childcare. This was a huge help! Also, I love being surrounded by wonderful mamas. I feel very supported knowing that I am not alone in this fitness journey. You built this relationship with the community and you get to know and relate with other moms who have similar struggles. Megan and Lorena are amazing instructors and were very welcoming. They really motivate you. I always leave feeling stronger and full of energy. The owner, Carly, is very accommodating and passionate in helping mamas get fit and healthy. They also do playdates on some days after class with some DIY crafts coordinated by Rhiannon. Rhiannon is also amazing. I am so glad I found FIT4MOM.

It has been about two years I think at this point, and I am still talking about what a helpful turning point your support was during a challenging time. My daughter and I have been through unbelievable and tragic/chaotic life circumstances at times since, and are still overall both doing really well and connecting in health ways - living our best lives in a weird world! I am technically an expert in all of this, and was still just struggling, so I cannot give enough positive and true feedback on this process with you. Thanks again for everything, and figured better late than never, lol!

The idea here is that parenting is more of a self-centric (and partner-centric) exercise; throughout the program, Cassidy was responsive, flexible and very empathetic. What it does is give you a framework for how to make decisions about parenting. It fills in knowledge gaps around what our kids need. The content from Jai Institute for Parenting is good, but honestly it's Cassidy that makes the whole thing worthwhile. If you're at the point where you're even exploring a "parenting coach" then working with Cassidy may be exactly what you're looking for.

I highly recommend working with Janet. Through deeper self-understanding I am able to connect more meaningfully and authentically with my child. Working with Janet requires bravery to face internal harms and limiting beliefs. Together, we forged new and empowering approaches to being a parent and a human. With Janet, there is no quick-fix or parenting hack to make challenging problems go away, rather, there is transformation that takes place on a very deep level. Be ready! I am grateful for Janet's humor, groundedness, and for her ability to see and feel deeply alongside me as a thought partner.

I yelled a lot, but more than that I had lost my joy and I just felt like I was drowning in my life most of the time. Working with Janet this summer was like a warm hug. I had read all the parenting books you guys. I knew a lot of neuroscience and child development already. I had been trying as hard as I could to be a good mom for as long as I can remember. What I DIDN'T know was how to show myself compassion. What I didn't know was that I was never going to be able to do better until I felt better and my nervous system actually experienced safety on a regular basis. What I didn't know was how to care for myself like I was someone who mattered too. It took me a while to realize that these coaching sessions were actually Janet mothering me in such a beautiful and compassionate way. She was holding space for all the emotions and fears and hurt of my parenting journey without a shred of judgment. She helped me to believe that I make sense and that I'm already a good mom. She helped me to believe that my children are good too and that their most extreme struggles are simply part of their journey, not something to fear. She taught me to identify what my body was feeling and what I needed so that I could get to a place of safety and truly show up for my children with presence and empathy. It was such a journey with many ups and downs but I'm here to tell you that I'm building trust with my children every day now instead of tearing it down. I'm responding most of the time to my kids' tantrums & challenges in ways that I'm proud of. I truly didn't expect to get so much out of this parenting class and a few coaching sessions but it turned out to be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life.
