I just finished 6 years at Lighted Window and have watched both of my girls blossom at this lovely school. Every teacher my girls had has been caring and I've never once worried that my girls were in good hands. The community at this school has also been incredible. We have made lifelong family friends and I am so grateful for our time here. The teachers at the school are wonderful and my kids have always been happy to be at Lighted Window. This is a day care, not a preschool. We had to pull our kids out after some time passed for us as parents to pick up on things. Teacher tenure is short, which means quality of care is low and they constantly churn through new teachers. They do not clean the place as they should, so my kids were getting sick much more than they should. They advertise organic food but it's a basic sandwich and chips, and they give junk food like popsicles and gummies every day. Basically sugar overload to keep them happy, at the expense of a sugar down at home with terrible moods. Teachers are found scrolling on their phones or taking to each other and not looking after kids. All in all just not the quality you'd expect from a great town like La Canada. All these reviews are dated and quality is not what it may have been years ago. You can do better with other alternatives! read more

My son's time at LWP is coming to an end, and while he's more than ready for kindergarten part of me wants to keep him cocooned in preschool forever. Suzie and Annaliese and the rest of the team are pros. They're warm, accessible, understanding, and balance the line between firm and flexible. They've navigated the murky waters of Covid protocols with transparency and always with the kids' best interests forefront. There are multiple (four, by my count) different outdoor areas for kids to play in and explore. Classrooms are clean and orderly. I was one of the noobs who came in Day 1 thinking "Oh, having snack/lunch provided isn't going to work for my kid, he's too fussy." Lol. Nope, he now eats pesto pasta, tuna salad, and chili with gusto (although prefers it when Miss Lisa makes it than what I make at home). As other commentators have mentioned there are a lot of fundraisers, but I'd imagine that's sort of par for the course. With the exception of the annual $50 PTO required "donation" everything else is optional, and what they do sell is pretty decent (better than what my daughter's elementary school sells). We are so happy to have spent the past three years at LWP, and I'm going to be bawling my eyes out next week when I pick my son up for the last time. read more

My daughter attends this school and she loves it. Her main 2 teachers have been amazing and all other teachers/staff are very nice and welcoming. My daughter says she misses her teachers every weekend when she's away from school. That goes to show how great they are with children and they really care. Would highly recommend this school anyone I know. read more

My Husband and I are more than happy with Lighted Window. We walked through several pre school's and LWP beyond exceeded our expectations with cleanliness, Staff, Large outdoor play yard, Classroom sizes, Art... My Daughter started when she was 2 years old. She has looked forward to go to school every morning for the past 4 years, I have never felt so comfortable with a group of people than the teachers and Directors. Everyone has been more accommodating for us and our family, If i have needed to leave her longer than usual they are always happy to have her stay longer. I love the sense of community and family that the school holds from daily involvement, Family BBQ, Dine out nights and Casino night for the parents. We have made many close friends from our daughters class. I love that the school provides a healthy snack and lunch so i don't have to worry about it when running out the door. I can't say enough good things about Lighted Window, I am going to be so very sad when our daughter graduates this year but I know we will keep in touch. read more

Interesting...I posted a review (not realizing it was logged in under my husband's name not mine) that was not favorable. This school overdoes it with the "extras." The fundraisers, the PTO (for 3year olds), the mandatory V-day cards for kids who can't read but rather for mothers to show off etc. I got into a spat with the asst. director over "mandatory charity," and I posted a review stating as much. Apparently the director didn't like it. Here is an excerpt from her email (I just took out my kid's first name): We enjoy having XXX here, he is a sweet boy and is starting to become comfortable and familiar here. I would like to ask you at this time, if you feel this is the right program for you and your family? Along with your strong opinion and your husband's Yelp review, I am not quite sure the Preschool is the best fit for you at this time. Funny how the Yelp review is not only gone, but it is also not among the reviews that are not recommended. Yelp, I thought a business couldn't have a negative review removed. My wife and I are very happy with Lighted Window Preschool, and, more importantly, our daughter loves it. She is now in her second year at the school and it has been a good fit from day one. There are two teachers in each class, and she loved her first year teachers (Miss Ashley and Miss Adrianna of the Panda class), and loves her current teachers (Miss Tara and Miss Lyzzy of the Teddy Bear class). The teachers clearly love their students right back. It's an environment I have no hesitation leaving my daughter in. During our daughter's various development stages we have been able to work with her teachers to come up with and reinforce action plans. As our daughter is a full time student she spends a good portion of the week with her teachers, so this direct communication is critical to us. We love that the school provides lunch and snacks, and in our opinion they are healthy enough. It's tough feeding 90 children with their various allergies and dietary restrictions, but the school definitely puts forth its best effort. They also provide numerous special events during the year, including annual Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter festivities, pajama parties, a year-end stage show, and an all-family barbeque. There is a Parent Teacher Organization which is primarily responsible for fund raising activities and some charity work. The administration staff (Miss Suzie and Miss Lara) are friendly, professional, and helpful, and they too have a great relationship with our daughter. Overall, our experience at Lighted Window Preschool has been everything we could have hoped for. read more

We absolutely love Lighted Window and have been part of the school family for the last 7 years with both of our kids. The teachers are all not only loving and caring but work hard to connect with each child individually to ensure they are growing and getting the most from the program. The kids are learning through playing and doing special activities and have break out sessions to have time working in smaller groups. The Parent Teacher Organization is active providing a terrific opportunity to meet other parents and earn money for enhancements for the school. Along with the back to school bbq, casino night and class picnics which all bring together the school as a community for your kids. We'll be sad to leave but know we've made friends for life. read more

This school has been wonderful for my very spirited four-year-old son and I hope to send my daughter when she's old enough. We love the large outdoor space and time spent outside, and the play-based approach. My son's teachers are warm, kind and supportive and have helped him grow and learn so much. He loves the afternoon activities, especially gymnastics, cooking and Spanish. An added bonus is that they provide snacks and lunch - a definite plus! read more

Our daughter attended TK and summer school here in the Dragons classroom. The staff was all so wonderful... Loving and nurturing for our little sponge! The school brings in lots of outside programs and activities which enhance their curriculum. Museums bring things to the school for sensory play, and the play ground and classrooms are designed for hands-on learning. Thank you Ms. Gracie, Ms. Aznif, and Ms. Candy for teaching her the ABCs of life! Ms. Annalise and Ms. Nicole, your afternoon extended care programs and story time are things our daughter will never forget! My husband and I are so thankful we found LWP! I will start by saying this is the only pre-school my kids have attended, so I do not have anything to compare it to. However, the good news is that I never had to look anywhere else because I have been so happy here! I grew up in LCF and was moving back from the East Coast when my son was 2 1/2 and I was very pregnant with my daughter. It was important for me to have my son get involved with a school and find friends quickly since he was used to being very social in New York. Several of the pre-schools that I called would not take kids in April and said I would need to wait until the next school year. However LWP was understanding and welcomed us in! The first day I dropped my son off I was teary, but he was happy and just waved bye-bye! He started as a Panda, then he was a Kangaroo, then a Busy Bee and now he is a Dragon and about to complete his pre-school career! My daughter started as soon as she turned two and is just finishing her first year. There are many reasons that I love the school, here are just a few: 1) The school is flexible. My son was in just two half days a week when he started. After I went back to work he was able to switch to full time. Full time means that the kids can arrive as early as 7:15am and stay as late as 6pm. For working parents this is great! But it was also great for me as a stay home parent. And there is a summer program! 2) The staff is great! The teachers are amazing! My kids are treated like family. The teachers have fun projects and are always learning great new things. I love that my 2 year old already knows so much. 3) The programs are outstanding. The older kids each take a science class once per week. They love it! There is a sports program that comes in as well. Plus there are all the tradition pre-school class such as art, numbers and reading, etc. The afternoon program is really great. After lunch and naps there are classes that you can sign up for. Both my kids are taking Spanish now and are learning a ton! There is cooking, film making, gymnastics, dance, yoga, music, and many others. Great options. 4) Snacks and lunch are included. My kids eat more of the cooking there than they do at home. Often times when we drop off the kids really early we bring a packed breakfast as well. 5) The families and friends we have met there are wonderful. The families are fun, down to earth and just great people to be around. I have become very involved with the PTO and have loved it! There are not many downsides, but if I had to name a few: 1) It is expensive. But if I had to pay a nanny and pay tuition at a part time preschool I would spend more money. And money spent on kids education is an investment! 2) The outside play area is HUGE, but there is no grass. There is grass in the front of the school that the kids play on after pick-up. And the older kids do take some trips to the park. 3) The building is older and could use some sprucing up, but LWP doesn't own the building. 4) I wish they had an infant program! (Too late for me now, but it would have been great!) I would recommend Lighted Window Preschool to anyone (and I do all the time!). And in a quick response to Courtney S who feels that there are too many fundraisers. We have one large fundraiser with auction per year plus some small fundraisers that families do not have to be involved in if they do not want to. Every preschool and school (even LCF public schools) in the area have many fundraisers, it is a way to keep tuition down but still provide great programs and teachers! Valentines day cards are not mandatory, just fun for the kids. And I would say of the many organizations I belong to, LWP has the least "showy" mom's. Most of us just used store bought V-Day cards from Target. read more

Love this preschool! My daughter has been there two years and we are about to enroll our son. Some of the things I love: - Easy-going, loving staff. They hug my children. They sit on the ground and interact with the kids, read to them, play with them, etc - Program is play-based, but becomes more academic each year they move toward kindergarten, which I think is a great way to get them ready. The 2 year old classroom mostly plays, but the 4-5 year classroom has time they are working on the alphabet, writing, numbers, etc. - Extra programs included in the regular price, like Spanish and drawing lessons for the kids 3 and up - No fundraising required - All day care, if you need it. We only use 3/4 days, but I love that I can leave them longer if I need to. And they have lots of different schedules to accommodate everyone - Open nearly all year, they just have the traditional holiday off, and an extra week in August and December (for the holidays) - Cute classrooms, little garden, great up-keep on the facility, large shade structure, lots of riding toys, play houses, climbing structures - Easy pick-up and drop off rules, big parking lot - All food included in the price (lunch and snacks) Some of the things I wish were different: - No grass to play on, but it has not been a big deal, since my daughter loves to ride bikes, there is large area for riding - Food could be a little healthier. We generally eat pretty well in my house, some of the items I would not normally serve my child, wish there was more organic, etc - A little more expensive than some of the area preschools - They have a diaper fee for kids that are not potty trained, but not a big deal since my daughter only needed it for a few months and my son is already potty trained (before he will start) All-in-all we are very happy, my daughter never wants to leave when I pick her up. She always comes home with art projects and singing songs, showing me the numbers and letters she knows, etc. She is always a little dirty, which I love (and they use washable paints). She always wants to hug her teachers good bye. My son, who is not even enrolled yet, also never wants to leave. It takes me 10 minutes on a good day and 30 minutes on a bad day to get them to leave the playground and say good bye to everyone. read more

My daughter loves this school and so do we! Every teacher that I have experienced so far is really caring. They always have a lot of fun activities planned for the kids and they are really organized. There are 2 different yards that the children enjoy and they make lunches fresh everyday in their own kitchen. We love this school! read more

My two young sons have both gone through lighted window from age two. One is just about to finish his third year there. It is a wonderful, nurturing, safe environment that has provided both my boys with everything they need to go to kindergarten. I have been so pleased with the combination of academics and play based instruction. My 6 year old is just about to complete kindergarten and has had a great first year experience thanks to preparation lighted window provided. From the directors to the teachers you couldn't ask for more eager and caring people to be guiding your child through their pre-school years. They offer wonderful, creative enrichment programs that enhance the opportunity learn. They have a large playground where kids can be kids and they treat your child like they are their own. Everything that is asked of parents is VOLUNTARY such as donations, holiday celebrations, and appreciation for the teachers. My opinion is that when I drop off the most important thing in the world to me (my little boy) There isn't enough I can do to appreciate the patient teachers and staff that are caring for him and loving him during his school day. I feel extremely lucky to have found this school and know that the people attending feel the same way. I will continue to support and recommend this pre school for years to come. For anyone out there that is not 100 percent satisfied with Lighted Window Preschool I challenge you to find a better place for your child. read more
