This place is my secret weapon for hilarious (and saucy/slightly inappropriate) cards for all occasions. As for their namesake, their framing is impeccable and the images they have on hand are impressive and varied. I've seen a lot of different projects done out of here and the work is beautiful. Bring in your own items, or find something beautiful in house! Or stock up on cards! There's lots of options!

I often pass by framing shops in the malls in Edmonton and never go in because I worry it's out of my price range or that im going to be subjected to high pressure sales tactics. I have never had these worries at Black Gold Gallery and Frame. The owner is a lovely woman who is friendly but content to leave you to browse if you tell her you are just looking. A little known fact about this place also is if you are a Bradford exchange fan they will place an order for you if you see something you like on the website and will do it through their own account which is great if online shopping makes you uncomfortable or you don't have a credit card. Just make sure you have at least half the money to put down on your purchase and they will call you when it arrives. They were very understanding with me the last time I made a purchase and it took me three days to get to Leduc to actually pick it up. I only received one extra reminder phone call and not once was I ever accused of trying to flake out on paying them the other half of the money. These folks have been around since 1993 and with great selection and unbeatable customer service it is easy to see why. If you are in the Leduc area and looking to add to the decor of your home make sure to give this great small business a look and I promise you will not be disappointed.

During our recent trip to Cuba, we picked up a wonderful, quite large, canvas painting. Upon…read morearriving home, we had to figure out exactly what to do with it, as leaving it rolled up in its tube wasn't such an appealing option. Off to Kamena Gallery and Frames! We walked in and had a look at all the paintings on the walls while we waited to be helped. Before we arrived, I read a little about Kamena on their website. It sounds intimidating when you read they have over 1500 moulding samples in stock. With that many samples, this could take forever! Or at least that's what I thought. The guy that helped us was AMAZING. He rolled our painting out, took a good look at it, asked what we were thinking for a frame and starting pulling samples out (not super fast though, he was very thorough, got our opinions on each one as he pulled them out, and brought out the next based on our reactions). About 10 minutes later we had our frame chosen. The scary part came next, how much is this going to cost us? I may have gone to Michaels with approximate measurements to get a ballpark cost there, just to see. Not only was Kamena less expensive, they did a MUCH better job (we previously had a canvas painting framed at Michaels, it was alright, but the difference in workmanship is clearly evident here). Sooo, less money, better finished product, and more frame choices? We'll be back, obviously. This experience was utterly painless. It took what I thought would be a "chore", especially trying to get two of us to agree on a frame, and made it pleasant. I almost want to go and buy more paintings, just so I can go and get them framed!

Because they are artists themselves, they are able to choose the exact right frame to enhance the works. They are such kind people as well. They have never let me down. Ms. LaMarche is the perfect representative for their artists. The picture was shipped to the West Coast of the US, and she made the process easy and seamless. She coordinated phone meetings and made sure our concerns were pointed out to the artist and hers to us. She worked closely with us in selecting frames and matting. From the outside, you can see some large-canvas paintings that are colourful and eye-catching, nicely displayed and inviting. There are two large presentation rooms, the smaller of which features bear statues by Vance Theoret, who sculpts with soapstone, slate, chlorite and Kissi stone, and works with lots of subjects, but his bears are his favourite ... and it shows. They're playful and embody an innocence and curiosity that are almost human-like. There are lots of other original works by a variety of artists. As I'm not much of an art connoisseur, I didn't recognize most, but know the names Robert Bateman and Trisha Romance, whose giclees (high quality reproductions) and limited edition prints are available here. I think sometimes they come buy originals. It's a lovely show space, and there's something for every aesthetic, from landscape and abstract to fantasy and realism. The shop's been around for almost 30 years and has a solid reputation in the art business.
