I enjoyed my visit to this library with my sister. The kids' zone is such a cozy and fun space, bright, and colorful. All details that make it feel special for children. You can tell it was designed with families in mind. They have a great selection of books for all ages, so it's easy to find something kids will actually get excited about. I also loved that they offer board games, it's a nice touch and makes it more than just a place to read. It's somewhere kids can relax, play, and spend quality time together. The decoration really stands out too. It's cheerful and welcoming without feeling overwhelming, which makes the whole space feel comfortable and inviting. We'll be coming back! read more

Went to the library for passport processing after dealing with the post office in the past. So easy to set up an appointment, very helpful in getting the paperwork done and completed quickly. Definitely recommended. read more

UPDATE: Their internet is always down. There have been many instances when I set up my laptop and everything only to find out the internet is down. One day there was a power out at the library. Also, their new fireplace stinks up the place. Seems like someone is doing a BBQ inside the library. read more

A beautiful, kid friendly place for study and play. They have a huge collection of adult and children's books. A large play area for small kids and books sorted by subjects, picture books and puzzles to keep them learning and entertained. There are several large meeting rooms being used to host events by the library and community groups. It's not our usual library but I'm very impressed by this beautiful space. It's a really great resource for the residents of Glendale Heights and surrounding areas. read more

Another beautiful library in the burbs. The interior is beautiful and the staff very helpful. The lady at the reference desk was so helpful and called a few other libraries, gave us directions, suggestions and took our info in case she thought of any other place that would have what we were looking for. If I lived closer, I would most likely visit this library or the one in Addison. Both are very cool. read more

I went to Glenside after I had to play a horrid game of 21 Questions with a power-hungry Front Desk employee at the Bloomingdale library. See, I just moved to the area and wanted to check out ONE book. Glenside was very helpful - the moment I stood in line to wait to ask how to hook up my library card, a helpful employee asked what I needed help with, and then escorted me to the proper desk area. They they used my out-of-town library card (where I literally JUST moved from and where my mother still resides [and I visit 1-2x per week]) and linked it up to their system so I can check out books. The whole process was very easy and everyone was very nice. The book self-check-out system was a bit confusing to me - I wasn't sure if I had ACTUALLY checked out a book, though the information was on the screen. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to print a receipt. Another reviewer mentioned that she didn't like seeing kids hanging out/running around the front of the library. Umm... it's a LIBRARY. They're KIDS. It's a community that devotes their time, in part, to children's programs and to promoting literacy. I'd much rather see kids hanging out at the library after school, having a good time, getting acquainted with books and developing a positive relationship with libraries/reading than hanging around elsewhere where they can get into trouble and possibly have negative influences. I sat at the front desk area for less than 10 minutes, and the kids were only around that area and the children's area - NOT the adult area. Still, if it bothers you that much, go to the library after 5 or 6 when the kids go home. They're open until 9pm. read more

Can't go wrong with a good library for a good book. Buying books gets mighty expensive, often for only reading them once. My kids love the library. They come out with quite the stack of books regularly. I like that you can put books on hold online. The local school kids appear to like to hang out here after school, to play online games. They appear to have a pretty good video selection, but haven't checked any out yet, except from the kids section. Wife has indicated that it appears they aren't necessarily stocking all new books, that they may only be procuring some books in electronic form, which is nice if you have an e-reader, especially since I believe you can check them out from home, but can be a bit of an investment that kind of defeats the purpose of having a library, especially when one wants to reduce his/her dependency on electronic devices. read more

The library recently had a face lift-it certainly needs it for the immense amount of kids that come here after school-and with computers now present in daily school work, the library offers computers as well for everyone to use. A nice place to come and nice people that work here. read more

As a connoisseur of public libraries, I consider myself extremely well versed in the qualities that make up a good community establishment. I've been to Glen Ellyn, Bloomingdale, Addison, Itasca, Oak Park, Carol Stream, and Chicago, just to name a few. The Glendale Heights Public Library should consider changing its name from LIBRARY to DAYCARE as it certainly does not fit the criteria any reasonable individual would use to define a library. Every day when school lets out, hordes of children descend upon the library. Do you imagine that these children profess any love of the written word? Are they familiar with the works of Tolstoy, Hemingway, or Proust? Are they even literate? The answer to these questions is a clear and resounding NO. These children are savages. The only thing they are well read in is the manual on how to operate the computer game Spore. It is absolutely shocking how ill-mannered they are and how little ability the librarians have to control them. When they are not running around screaming at the top of their lungs, they are in the computer room -- that was specially expanded for them -- playing video games with absolutely no educational merit. Not only does this library NOT value learning, they actively hinder the few that seek a quiet place to study. Furthermore, I also have a bone to pick with the way the library chooses to appropriate its funding for additional material. It is entirely and wholy UNNECESSARY to buy 10 copies of movies, e.g. 50 Shades of Gray, when they are released. The library is not Blockbuster. It is not Netflix. It is not a human right to have access to 50 Shades of Gray immediately upon its release. These copies are only in circulation for the short amount of time they are initially in demand before appearing at the annual book sale for resale at a significant loss. What an absolute waste and ridiculous approach to spending taxpayer dollars! It is absurd to buy 10 copies of ANYTHING that has no educational/societal/any value and will shortly be sold at a tremendous loss. THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE!!!! I will say that the physical structure of the library has improved greatly over the years. However, taxpayer dollars should not be spent funding a computer room that solely exists to occupy children's time before their parents can pick them up to go home or multiple copies of garbage material that only serves to subsidize people too cheap to afford a Netflix subscription or too dumb to stream movies online. read more

The people here are wonderful, so very helpful. I registered my Lombard Library card with Glenside in a matter of 5 minutes. Very helpful staff. Can check out books, new movies, and get computer time if you need it. Also, get this you can print for free! (black and white only) How cool is that! read more

Provides great amenities. This especially matters because there are two schools right next to it and students come after school waiting for the rides are hanging out. They also have great ways of finding jobs are learning new skills with the programs that they have read more

Usually go to the Carol stream one bc that's where I live but I decided to come here to check out the toddler/kid area. It's a big nice library in the adult and teen section , but the toddler area looks bad, it looks like the staff doesn't take care of it. I know toddlers play but I always pick up after my son . Worse part is that there's a huge window in the corner where the toddlers can play , it's like a green house in there , hot and to much sun in there ! Terrible to have toddlers play there! Anyways nice library for adults ! But play area sucks ! read more

My daughter and I enjoy this library very much. She's a toddler and she loves the play area as well as the baby time/toddler time programs. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I did have a mix up with a returned book. When returning items, make sure to scan them slowly so that each one is properly registered! The problem was quickly resolved and I was thankful for the staffs help. read more

This place is a freaking joke. I've lived in the Gh area and they have expand it so much it's stupidity because there making more room for the kids instead of those like myself that go to school and actually need to study and it be quiet. You got janitors in the only area where it's semi quiet by the study rooms fixing the lights making a bunch of noise, asking people to move and then people singing around the area. This library is so far the most loudest place I have ever experienced. I came here to study on several occasions and people were on the phone, play video games, and talk loudly with their kids and friends in the "Quiet Zone"! the funny part is the staff were right across them and they didn't do anything to show that they care about the people who really came there to study and concentrate. I had to actually confront the people after minutes of waiting to see if the staff would come and interfere but nothing happened. I am really disappointed of this place, it's more quiet to study outside the park than inside this place. It's a joke. read more

I have been going to the Glenside Public Library for more than ten years but particularly many times in the past four years since my son was born. I really enjoy the children's section there. I love the way the books are arranged by subject which makes it easy for me to find whatever type of book he is interested in whether it's dinosaurs or trucks. I also love the children's programs. I've been to the baby story time, toddler story time and many of the special holiday events and special programs. As I had a second child it was also wonderful to be able to bring them both to a program together to enjoy it. They have many programs where children can earn prizes for reading or being read to as well like the 1,000 books before kindergarten program and the summer reading program. I was sad to move away a few months ago and always compare my new library to the Glenside Public library and sadly my new one just isn't as nice. read more
