Good kids section. It's a whole floor dedicated to juniors and they have a wide array of movies and audio books! Some of the librarians seem like mean girls, like they all got attitudes. I was looking at movies to check out few months ago and all I heard was one librarian talking about how she hates suburban libraries and that she's a city girl and only likes Chicago libraries... then go then..? This is one of our favorites because it has the whole and vast second floor dedicated to the children's section with plenty of books, activities, coloring paper, puzzles, and toys for all ages. Some of the main highlights for us are the plentiful seating and huge sets of magnetic tiles and dominoes. Our girls can easily spend an hour "reading" - which for their age is more like them flipping through the pages and trying to pick up familiar words and objects, or having one of us read to them. A library with enough seating is vital so we wouldn't be occupying a space for too long while others wait. Some libraries have incomplete sets of toys but this one is well-organized and their set of magnetic tiles is very comparable to the ones that we have at home. Our girls cannot seem to get sick of them and would play with them at the Woodridge Library and at home! read more

I am usually a huge fan of this library but after today, not so much. I went there early today to see if they had any eclipse glasses. Yes, I waited to the last minute which clearly was my fault. As I stood at the checkout desk I watched two older ladies chatting away for quite awhile I was clearly standing there. When one of them deigned to wait on me and I asked about the glasses she said in a condescending tone that no, you had to be there at a certain time to share the glasses. Ok, I get it that I waited too long but do not talk down to me like I am an imbecile. You might want to teach these women how to treat people with common courtesy. read more

Now there are " no fines " for overdue books. This is a great policy if you check out a large number of books and are a slow reader. Books can be renewed but what happens after the limit of renewals has been reached and the book is not yet returned? Also, just a heads up ~ the book return boxes have been moved to the south side of the building near the new parking area. It is a single, one-way lane that you enter from the upper parking section. On a busy day I don't know if that will impact parking in any way. read more

This is a great little suburban library. Starting from the outside, they have a large parking lot. When you enter into the beautiful, large, bright lobby/circulation area, there's a good amount of seating. They have a bunch of study rooms, which you can apparently reserve up to one week in advance. They vary in sizes. I went in and asked if they had any and they had one that was the perfect size, because there were just two of us, and it was the smallest of the rooms. I really appreciate that they will allow you to use a room even if you're not a resident. I live in Chicago but was in the suburbs and wanted to do some homework, and was able to get a room here for an hour and a half by handing over my driver's license. Thank you, Woodridge library! They have several different types of seating options. There are some comfy blue chairs scattered around the place, mostly in front of the round window facing the lawn where there's fantastic natural lighting. There are some group study tables, too (outside the study rooms), which seat up to four people. They also have some tables that each seat up to six people but those ones have partitions that separate the two sides of the table, so not conducive to group work. On the plus side, the partitions have outlets, which makes it handy when you're working on your laptop. There was a small art exhibit happening in the lobby by circulation on the day I was there. I actually arrived just about when it was starting and I was one one of only three wandering through the exhibit, but when I left my study room about an hour and a half later there were at least 30 people talking and enjoying the artists reception. What was kind of awesome is that it was far enough away from the main part of the library that you couldn't even tell; there was no noise at all in the stacks area. They have a good sized collection of audio and video recordings. On the other side of some of the study rooms they have a copy machine, fax machine, typewriter, scanner, an ADA station (for people who are visually and hearing impaired), and a printing station. There's a nominal fee for copies, and I assume the fax and printer have a fee as well. They have free WiFi! That is incredibly helpful, especially when trying to get some studying done. There's a large bank of computers available at this library, too; they have about 25. This is all on the first floor--I didn't even go to the second floor, so who knows what wonders might be found up there. Undoubtedly the children's section since I didn't see anything down their for small children. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely like to return to this library sometime, as I continue my tour of public libraries around Chicago and the suburbs. read more

I've been going here since I was 12 year's old when my family first moved to the area and it's not exaggeration when I say that I visit here at least once a week (even 3 times a week one summer!). I love this library and ever since they renovate it, included the Swan circulation borrowing system, it ha become my favorite resource to go to for reads, and in the past decade, media content. Forget Block Buster, even Netflix (which I love), but during my college days and days of unemployment, this is the single place where I knew I could go to find entertainment, feed my brain and to just keep busy! Needless to say, that I saved a lot of money borrowing magazines, borrowing movies, music, audiobooks, and just about anything that I could think of. There is even the Mango language online tool to learn another language. The library is probably one of the most under-used resource within a residential community so it just makes me happy to see that from time to time, young adults and kids are still coming in. Someday, when I have a family of my own, the public school and library system is going to be the most influential factors that would affect my choice of residence. Most of the staff here (99%) are very friendly and quick to help you check out and answers your questions. There was a couple of times where one of the staff woman wasn't particular welcoming but after several observances, I saw that it was just her personality and she was like that to everyone and it wasn't just me. That made me feel a bit better (and I thought it was because I was coming in too much!). Anyways, I'm still a fan regardless and so I give all 5 stars! (Maybe it's suitable for 4 but since this one is my hometown, it's gonna get a little of a bump, sorry folks!) =P read more

I mean I love this library!! When I was younger, my parents' house fell under the Westmont library jurisdiction. I remember purposely driving farther to come here. It has a more modern, inviting look than the other libraries I know. Fast forward many years later, I am living in Woodridge. One of the tasks on my list is to get a library card! They offer ebooks options too if one is interested. However, no matter how convenient it is to borrow digitally, no one can take away the feeling of reading a physical book... turning the page, smell of a new book, or freaking out what page you left off because you forgot to put the bookmark on. read more

A very nice and evenly spread out library. The kids are away upstairs from the sdult. They have a nice labtop section with a great view of outside. Nice ceilings and plenty to choose from on audio books to cds, to old fashion actual books. This place has plenty of computers for those without their own and a cool teen aection that I wish all libraries had when I was a kid. read more

What in the Dewey decimal system is going on here? Can I really leave a negative review for a library? Did I step back into the past? I feel like I'm at the thrift store? Why is there a Trump book next to knitting books? Where is the real estate section? I LOVE books.Bookstores are my favorite place to be.The library gives me free books so yaaaaay!!!! The good-Free books,the employees were nice. The bad- The books are organized in a strange way,it was totally how libraries were in the 90's without clearly defined sections. The computers were slow,really slow to start up. I usually have a book list. This library had 0/5 of the books at the location. I had to order the books from other libraries.3 of the books have been in the top 100 bestsellers list for quite sometime,my regular library ALWAYS has the current bestsellers available.1 book was The alchemist. That has been a classic for 25+ years,why don't they carry it? All of the books about web design,social media,etc are old in computer years. A 7 year old book about internet marketing will help me how exactly? Things move fast in this digital age and this library needs to catch up. No self checkout. Instead I had to wait a bit while the guy ahead of me checked out 33 books. It hurts my soul to leave a bad review for ANYPLACE that carries books,and maybe I've been spoiled by my regular library but I was very underwhelmed. read more

I am recommending the Woodridge Public Library for its excellent children's department. It is a great stop for parents and teachers to find great educational DVDs. In particular, there is a vast collection of Bill Nye the Science Guy DVDs that children love. In addition, the library has a large parking lot and accessible drive-up material drops. read more

I never thought I'd have to review the library, or that libraries even had Yelp accounts.... BTW, did you know that Yelp only has 2 1/2 stars; on Yelp....? Look it up. Anyway, I have always been a major supporter of the library and come every week. It's a shame I don't see more parents taking advantage of everything they have to offer. The reason for this review, and the 3 stars, is the return process has proven to be a nightmare. On more than one occasion I have returned books and watched them be scanned in and witnessed the girls miss one of the books when scanning them in. Guess what happens when they don't get scanned in? That's right! It gets shelved while you rack up fines. I though I had caught this mistake each time it happened but now I have a bill in the mail for a book I returned 2 months ago, and is either on their shelf or rented out to someone else. Even better is this bill, which is one step from "collections" (it's only $25) is in my 6 year old's name. Time for the library to dust off the fair debt collection practices act, and stop sending collection notices to minors. I think after I pay it I will walk them over to the shelf and show them where the book is, the book I'll be taking home because I just bought it! read more

A recent renovation doesn't help cafeteria style front area, poor soundproofing front desk area, dismal climate control(very little A.C. in summer and sparse heating in winter), no multiple and decent self checkout(therefore interacting with poorly trained and nametagless "librarians"), a slow and tedious computer system, periodicals that haven't been updated in 15 years, a layout for books that is confusing and the children's section that is upstairs, making it difficult for small kids to climb stairs. Don't use the bathrooms here either because everyone can hear you because there are no doors. Go northwest a few miles to the Downers Grove Public Library, a better place to be. They take Woodridge cards. read more
