Hit the jackpot today because I called and they had 5 pairs of exactly what I was looking for. Spoke to "Heather" on the phone, then she helped me once I arrived at the store. She was patience, friendly and thorough, insisting I really should try both on even though this was probably my fourth pair of this brand. We had a chance to chat about all things downtown Lawrence and I enjoyed the time spent with her. The store is well stocked and there's no pretense involved in the purchase, something that seems to come with buying performance athletic shoes. However, new doesn't mean inexperienced or poor service in this case. Staffed with an exceptional group of dedicated runners, they'll personally take the time to fit you with exactly the right shoe for your running style. I've bought two pairs of shoes there, my wife has bough one pair, and each time they've sat down with us and been completely ok with taking 30-45 minutes to make sure we get the right shoe. I fight shin splints and the staff able to quickly diagnose my gait style and help me select a shoe that proved to remedy my ailment and keep me running. Shoes are expensive, but Garry Gribbles constantly offers clearance deals and specials so you don't have to buy improper shoes out of budget considerations. Also a great place to meet other runners, they offer a pretty solid calendar of races and events around town. OH, and they stock my favorite socks in the world, Injini's, which just makes me all kinds of happy camper. They recently started carrying Vibram's Five Fingers, which perhaps seems like a counter-intuitive move for a running shoe store, but Gribbles is all about making your runs better and seems to have a service first, money second attitude. I can't recommend them highly enough, if you're a runner, walker, or person with legs and feet, you NEED to stop by Garry Gribbles.

Even though it's old and local there are some very cool things in this store. Weavers has a wide selection of many different items- clothing, makeup, shoes, home goods, luggage. From the street it doesn't look that large but it's huge inside. So much packed in this store. I always love coming here because it's the kind of store that makes you feel special. There is a personalized touch to this store and they get to know you by name. The only drawback is the parking situation and it's not Weavers fault. Parking in downtown Lawrence should be an Olympic event. However, to get the reward of going to Weavers, you gotta brave the parking downtown. The prices are very reasonable and the merchandise is very contemporary. There's something for everyone at Weavers.

They did not have the shoes I was looking for or the newer version. Then the customer service with south, (not the same young lady). The person helping me got very nasty and threatened me not to buy the shoes i was looking for online. Hoping this person was just having a bad day, I sent my daughter to Ad Astra to pick out some shoes for her birthday. She experienced even a worst interaction with staff. As a young women, my daughter left feeling very upset. I have talked to a few other people including the person that recommend Ad Astra to me and this place has turned very ugly. There is way to many places to shop for shoes to put up with such poor service. Lost this customer, family and friends for life.

What struck me first was the color coded sections, which I actually like because I'm picky. So I went to my preferred color choice and started combing the racks to see what they had to offer. Lots of jersey cotton designed into pretty, fitted tees and dresses. More modern selection of jackets and tights. They cross the line on some items, but they do call themselves "eccentric" so cowboy boots with plaid and fringe are A-Ok with them. They also experiment with animal prints (something that I've never gotten), and really colorful accessories (I mean, REALLY colorful stuff that might even make a gay man cringe). But overall, they displayed a nice selection of women's clothing that was eclectic and accessible to most. I also dug their jewelry section because it was a little different than most, focusing on chunky chains and big pendants.
