Cooper Creek Campground is absolutely the most beautiful, off the beaten path, places I've ever…read moretraveled and it's practically in Atlanta's back yard! Located on the beautiful and noisy Cooper/Mulky Creek just an hour north of Dahlonega up Hwy 60 and then up some of the most beautiful and winding mountain roads that make you think you're never going to get there! By the time you turn on to Forest Service Rd 236 (a beautiful and peaceful dirt mountain road that climbs up through the pine and hardwood forests), you realize there is something amazing waiting for you. And there is. Cooper Creek Campground is like reaching a little slice of heaven. Fifteen campsites scatter through out the lush forest, and five of them sit right on the banks of Cooper/Mulky Creek. I advise getting there early during the week so you can get a creek side spot ... there is nothing like it! The creek is rocky and noisy and if you fish, the trout are plentiful! I walked the loop and all of the campsites were beautiful and within easy walking distance to the creek. As a solo hiker and camper, I chose spot #1 for the way the creek opened up and the trees opened up around my tent site to give me a clear view of a beautiful moon. I also liked the quiet solitude of this site ... few cars passed here since it's on the back loop. The campground hosts also live two spots up. As an avid (delirious almost) rock stacker, I fell in love with this creek. The rocks are amazing and perfect for stacking and balancing. It was so relaxing I stacked till after dark and was up just after sunrise stacking again! The pine cones in camp are plentiful, so I got a good pine smoke going and didn't have the first mosquito or black fly. I'm telling you ... this place is heaven! After dark a bunch of deer came through my camp and lapped at the creek for almost a half hour. Two fawns frolicked in the fern thickets next to my tent for a while and were bouncing around like puppies! With the light of the moon, I felt like I had a front row seat for natures big show that night! Also, there are synchronous fireflies here, which surprised me. Just after dark during the Summer Solstice, I thought it was kids playing with flashlights, but it was fireflies, all blinking in unison! It was amazing! I can't WAIT to go back! In fact, now that I'm home, I'm missing it. Cooper Creek is open year round and keep their gates open 24 hours a day. You won't get a phone signal here, so you may as well turn it off ... the solitude is amazing! Each site has a tent pad, grills, lantern pole and a picnic table. There are also bear bins that are an easy walk from each site for discarding trash. For hikers, you won't be disappointed. There are five interconnected trails that start in or near the camping area (Yellow Mountain Trail- 3.2 miles, Connector Trail- 0.4 miles, Mill Shoals Trail- 0.9 miles, Shope Gap Trail- 0.6 miles, and Cooper Creek Trail- 1.7). I found myself hiking in and out and exploring trail after trail. The abundance of trees at Cooper Creek keep the temperatures down, much cooler than up on the main road. I paid $10 a night for my site. There are faucets for drinking water and there are two vaults for bathrooms. There are no electric hook ups or dump stations. Primitive camping at it's finest! There are no reservations ... everything is first come, first serve. Have fun everyone!

We spent majority of the time on the river or cooking the main lodge. Overall it was nice escape. Only things I would improve is the map and trails it can be hard getting in and out since its a gravel road. But overall a weekend we'll remember!

The camp ground was clean and nice. The cabins were also very clean with beds, bedding, and toiletries so you don't need to bring any from home. There is a volleyball court, basketball goal, fire pit, swing set, and large room for gathering. The chattahoochee river is near by for fishing, rafting and etc. The only thing is finding the river was difficult and finding a nice spot on the river was driving distance. It would have been nice to have a map of how to get to places and the river. It would also be nice to have canoes, kayaks, and stuff to rent or recommendations of places near by where we could do that as an option. The place is still very new so there was not much to do around camp grounds. But overall a great place for reunion and relaxing.

The gold panning was fun but troublesome given the price and what you find. The gems were great and loads of fun to find for the kids. The tour itself was interesting and a fun way to explore and learn about history!

I do not like to write a bad review, and I like to give the benefit of the doubt, but truly people…read moreneed to have a heads up. We came here for my husband's 60th birthday. You can tell from the photos that the hotel is dated, so that was not a surprise to us. When I read the reviews and saw a 4.6-star rating, I was expecting a nice hotel, but it is a little odd. Driving up to the hotel, you're not even sure it's the entrance. We arrived, and when we got to our room, it smelled a little like smoke as well as animals. I knew they accepted dogs, but when I called beforehand, I was assured they were kept in a separate section of the hotel. Of course, later I saw a large dog in the lobby. Again, I knew they accepted dogs, so it really wasn't a problem. We went into the quaint town of Helen and never heard from anyone at the hotel, so we went to the small office desk in the lobby and asked about the smells. They moved us to the room next door. The room was comfortable, large, had a sitting area, and the shower was nice. The next morning, I took a walk around the grounds to check out the tennis court. I need to attach a picture because it was a little scary and definitely not usable. They should not advertise that they have a tennis court. As I called beforehand to make sure they had a tennis court and pickleball. The next day, we headed into Helen again and wanted to return to the hotel for just an hour or so before heading back out, but we couldn't find a parking space. We had to head down a steep hill where there were some spaces, then drove back up the hill to see if one had opened up. They have a large section of about five valet spaces. A woman from the hotel drove by on a golf cart, and my husband asked if we could park in one of the spaces for an hour. She said they were reserved for those coming for dinner. My husband sarcastically replied, "Not for those staying here for four nights?" She was a nice lady, but that seemed odd. She removed one of the cones, and we parked in one of the five open spaces. The place was very slow and seasonal. The funny thing is that after being there for two nights, and with only a few guests around, she even asked, "Well, are you staying here at the hotel?" She didn't remember us, and we had spoken with her three times. I promise you, we are easy people. We understand that nothing is going to be perfect, and we can accept that. But not remembering us after several interactions felt a little disconcerting when you're hoping for a special experience. Meanwhile, it is now the next day, and I'm sitting in the lobby. No one has come to talk to me about the tennis court. We mentioned the room smell, we mentioned the tennis court, and we had to follow up ourselves by the end of the day. It's just a little disappointing when you're looking forward to a special getaway and feel like your concerns are not being addressed. That said, we did enjoy the warm chocolate chip cookies that were available in the evenings. They were a nice touch. And I should mention our first night we had dinner at the hotel and it was good. The onion rings were our favorite. Okay, one last experience. My husband is a golfer and I am not - I am a beginner. We decided for our last day we would play golf in the afternoon even if it's just to hit on the practice range. I told my husband I do not want to bother other golfers. We go to the pro shop and my husband asks if there is a time and mentions I am a beginner and he said they were truly filled up and that is fine as we did not set an appt but when my husband mentions we'd like to practice a little on the range and you can see no one is out there at this time, he replies we don't have any practice balls as he looks around - but you are more than welcome to take the golf cart and pick up some balls yourselves. We proceed to do this and when we head down there we practice a little and another couple come down as well and they say to us, wow we've never had this before, picking up your own practice balls. Anyways, wanted to mention our last experience. It is a shame, we will never come back to Valhalla Resort again.

I was disappointed with our stay at Valhalla Resort. For the price, we expected a much higher level…read moreof quality and service. We paid $40 for a "cheese plate" that consisted of American cheese and a bottle of Welch's sparkling grape juice, which felt incredibly overpriced. The pool area wasn't well maintained, and our room had cleanliness issues, including a dirty bathroom sink. Dinner was also underwhelming. While the bread and main course were delicious, the appetizers were disappointing and the overall dining experience didn't justify the cost. We were also told one thing about room service charges, only to find an automatic 30% service charge added. Overall, the resort feels outdated and not well maintained. Despite charging luxury resort prices, it reminded us more of a budget hotel--except even a La Quinta typically includes breakfast. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

I was lucky to accompany a friend on a…read morelast minute trip to Georgia and our stay was greatly improved by the amazing accommodations at this adorable cabin. I was worried it might be too small, but it was just right! I stayed in the loft bedroom's king sized bed and my friend stayed on the queen sized sleeper sofa downstairs. We had perfect timing and got to see the leaves changing color and enjoy the cool weather (being from South Florida these are both unusual!) We cooked some of our meals at the cabin in the well-stocked kitchen. There is a full fridge, stove/oven and a full set of dishes, glasses, cooking utensils and silverware. It got cold enough that we made hot apple cider and lit the wood burning fireplace. It was also nice to have the hot tub to soak in after a day out on the town in the cold. The nearby town of Helen is an adorable Bavarian Alpine Village with great little shops and restaurants. We also drove to nearby Dahlonega to check out the shops and artists there. We were able to go horseback riding at the Sunburst Stables in Clarkesville and we also took a trip to the North Georgia Zoo in Cleveland - I highly recommend both! I can't wait to come back in the summer to enjoy some more outdoor activities like tubing on the Chattahoochee River or boating on Unicoi Lake at Unicoi State Park.

It's sooooooo cozy and cute in here - I don't actually ever want to leave. You're secluded but also close to town for anything you need. ALL supplies you need are all here which is awesome. The owner called us to see how we were doing and to make sure we are enjoying our stay. I could go on and on but for real, and for a reasonable price, come stay here and experience the awesome yourself
