We needed something fast to take on the train ride back to England. We hadn't had anything to eat yet at this point, but didn't want to get hangry. Fortunately, my wife could grab a salad box that was gluten free at Global Deli (or known as the Deli Global if the sign is any indication) and I grabbed a bacon roll and a haggis roll. Overall, it was good for what we needed to have on the go. It took a few minutes for my rolls to get done. The bacon roll was good, which worked well with the thickness of the roll. The haggis roll didn't feel as voluminous enough where you tasted more of the bread than the haggis. The millionaire bar was very good and held up well on the train ride back to London. read more

We were on the way to Greyfriars Kirkyard Cemetery and stopped here for a quick bite. Not a big establishment but it's quiet and cozy, with limited seating arrangement (6-8 folks) Owned by a sweet couple it seems and they were quite busy with their orders... The menu looks quite tempting having paninis, wraps, sandwiches.... My wife ordered a wrap [ Mexican Hot Wrap], and I saw their soup of the day [Leek Potato Soup] on the menu and it looked quite tempting. I asked can I taste it before I ordered. And they agreed... It was yummy, it was a sweet potato soup with a dash of black pepper. The wrap was crunchy, it was grilled superbly with tasty filling.. and so was soup... Cool, cozy place, good food and warm owners.... 4/5 PS: They charge 50/70 pence extra for dine-in arrangements, that's fine though. read more

i know it doesn't seem like much at first but the vibes in here were just so cozy. the owner was sooo nice and fun to talk to. the panini i ordered was lovely along with the tomato soup pairing. coffee as well with the millionaire shortbread. it was so hard to find a place open early in the morning in edinburgh royal mile but we found this as one of our only options but im so glad we did! read more

I stopped in for a quick lunch and got the Serkan's special wrap to go. It had a lot of flavor and was a decent size for the price. It was a bit rich for my taste, but I still enjoyed it. Wonderful. Great food and drink (tea and coffee) and great price. This is where the locals go and it's obvious why.

Like the grovelling, snivelling rat that I am, it's time to crawl back to Global Deli and beg their forgiveness for the pitifully low 4 stars I awarded them before. In hindsight, I should have perhaps tried more than the breakfast rolls before dishing out the scores, but after todays brie, bacon and guacamole toasted ciabatta, there's only one score to give. Utterly, utterly wonderful, and the thought of getting another tomorrow is actually making me look forward to going to work. In a street with three fantastic sarnie / takeaway bars right next to each other, I wasn't initially sure if Global could compete. I stand corrected, it's the best of the lot. read more

Wow!!! Global make amazing sandwiches. Fact. They have a really good menu and great staff, I had such a laugh as I was waiting for my chicken Panini. The guy making it said he would add in some extra;s, if I didn't mind. I battered my eyelids and blushed, of course not, handsome sandwich man with sexy accent!! The only thing that puts me off Global is the location....I find it difficult to eat and walk, I prefer to sit down somewhere comfortable and enjoy my lunch, but being where it is I had to go find a bench. ok it wasn't difficult to find one, but kinda wish it was closer to my flat. The great thing about the Global Deli is that from a mile off, it is hard to miss. In fact, this simple thing is the reason I first entered Global, and Im glad that I did. The deli is simply amazing - a huge range of things to choose from, and always full of returning customers who know how great this place really is.Panninis, rolls, sandwiches - they do it all, either choose from the menu or ask nicely and create your own. The food is always prepared infront of you, including the morning rolls that they do (sausages and bacon etc), so a feeling of freshness is always there. Ok so today my healthy normal eating habits are making a return, no more cakes or muffins for lunch!! So I decided a lovely sarnie should stop my tummy from rumbling through my usual 2 hour Monday lab session..... so now the main question was where does a good sandwich??! Dilemma. I have passed this place a few times and immediately noticed the ridiculous bright green building and the sign outside advertising falafel.......... Yum for my tum!! So I decided to give it a go, I only had an hour between class and it is so close. So basically I walked in and was amazed at the wide selection they have on offer.... and also stumped, what the frick do I have!?!? Then I saw it, smoked salmon and cream cheese - give me that bad boy right there! Plus they have a wide selection of rolls that you can choose from, and they are HUGE!! I was expecting it to be rather small as I was paying only £2.80, but no! I loved every mouthful of it, once I had removed the tomato and cucumber! I was told by the very friendly owner that the soup is his very own recipe. We also ordered a fresh carved chicken sandwich. The roll was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. don't even consider going elsewhere for a warm soup lunch (with a super generous side of bread), this is as good as it gets and only £2.50!! there were new specials every day and we would know because we went back three days straight. spinach, sweet potato and broccoli/stilton soups are all absolute winners and the staff were incredibly friendly. wouldn't dream of grabbing our lunch anywhere else, we were sold from the first slurp!!!! read more

Right on George IV Bridge, just down from the library, this little deli is a great wee spot for cheap and filling lunches. They do paninis, rolls and bagels with a great range of fillings. My favourite is the bacon, brie and cranberry, although everything is really tasty. You can also get hot drinks and fruit to accompany your lunch. Global is also a great place to grab a quick breakfast roll. They do all the usual (sausage, bacon, egg etc.) and cook it fresh in front of you so it's always piping hot.
