We contacted the office to check, only to learn that the appointment was expected to be in-person. This was never communicated to us when the appointment was scheduled. After more than 15 years of working with attorneys, including immigration lawyers for H-1B, green card, and citizenship matters, we have never had an in-person consultation assumed without being clearly informed beforehand. What was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. When the receptionist transferred us to the lawyer, the following was the exact conversation: Lawyer: Who gave you this appointment? My husband: Someone from your office had scheduled it. I don't recall the name. Lawyer: Schedule another appointment. We don't do appointments on call. Such a waste of my time. She then abruptly hung up. Speaking to a prospective client in this manner was not only rude but also demonstrated a lack of professionalism and communication skills. This could have been resolved professionally and respectfully. An expected professional response would have been something along the lines of: "It looks like there was a misunderstanding when the appointment was scheduled. Our consultations are only in person. Please reschedule, and our staff will be happy to assist you. That would have resolved the issue respectfully. I strongly recommend that the firm train its scheduling staff to clearly communicate appointment details. Lawyers to emphasize professional and respectful communication with prospective clients. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences we have had with an immigration law firm.
