I was new to the area and after telling a male employee that I wanted good food for a seven yr old dog he recommended I buy both Acana Kibble and Raw. My dog had a block age from eating this very expensive kibble with the raw. I have since learned that the motto here is SELL, SELL, SELL. My poor dog was so constipated from mixing the Acana kibble with the raw meat that this man said would be excellent for my dog. I had to take my dog to the veterinarian whom said mixing raw with kibble is dangerous for a dogs digestive track as the kibble forms a plug when mixed with raw and this is why my dog couldn't go. Avoid this place at ALL costs as they want your money and do NOT care about your dogs health. I know he is an employee but he said he knows about good nutrition for dogs. I wish I could give this place zero stars. **Long story, but please read it.** We moved to the high park area 3 years ago with out 3 pets and always into this Global Pet Foods for all our needs since it was so close to our home. As you can imagine, with 3 pets, the money we spend on them adds up when shopping for food, treats, clothes, accessories, baths and all other needs. Even though this location sold all the things we needed, it was always uncomfortable shopping there. I don't know if its part of their training, of if the staff just didn't like us, but EVERYTIME we went there, we were followed like we were stealing. Regardless of how we dressed, if we had the pets with us, or if we were alone or together. We were always followed by the staff. Recently, we added one more dog to our family, Logan. He is a big greyhoud-labrador mix adopted from Mexico where he was a street dog. He doesn't feel safe leashed and sometimes barks when people are too close. He is a big boy with an intimidating bark, but he would NEVER hurt anyone. He is always running free at dog parks, dog friendly beaches and off-leash trails and never had any issues with barking or aggression. He rides the TTC with us all the time and is a perfect gentleman. Because this location has people following us closely, he constantly feels threatened, like they will hurt him, so he barks and hides behind us. Last time I went into the store with my dog Logan, they were crowding us again and Logan got scared and barked at them, simply asking for space. I got what I needed and tried to get out as soon as possible. When a male costumer approached me and asked if he could pet Logan, I said "please don't pet him. He doesn't usually like men and he will bark at you". The consumer ignored my request and proceeded to approach Logan with his hands down to get him. Guess what? Logan barked at the guy, but in no moment, showed teeth or any other sign of aggression. He just needed space and he just simply doesn't like men. The store manager LISA made a whole scene in front of other costumers saying that my dog was aggressive and I was "putting everyone there in danger", meanwhile, Logan was hidding between my legs, scared and confused. Other costumers where saying it was fine, afterall, dogs bark. It's normal. But she kept making a scene, telling people to hide behind the isles and be careful with Logan and screaming "you need to muzzle this dog!! You need to muzzle this dog!" I was so embarrassed, even considered leaving everything behind and just going home. I left the store in tears. I could not believe what had just happened. Today, the manager LISA blocked us from entering the store with our dogs because Logan barked. He wouldn't have barked if she wasn't so close to us. He was fine when we walked in, only barked because of her. She said we could only bring him of he was muzzled. Doesn't she understand that some dogs bark when they are nervous?? She works at a pet store, I'm sure they see anxious dogs all the time. Is this how she treats everyone? I told her that we would be bringing our business to petvalu, (who treats us amazingly and we never had ANY issues with our dogs barking there. They get treats and belly rubs every single time) and she gave us a smirk and said "that's fine". It's a shame that no other pet food chain carries the dog food we feed to our boys (North Paw), but I much rather travel an hour by TTC to another location than to ever going back to this store. Unfortunately their head office is already closed, but I do intend on talking to them about this behaviour. Please avoid this place. Specially if you have big and/or anxious dogs. read more

I absolutely love this store! I don't understand a couple of the negative reviews! I visit often with my dogs, and have always been treated really well. Of course, they are well behaved and don't put anyone at risk or cause any sort of disturbance, so I guess that helps! Right across the street from trendy Bark and Fitz, you could say Global Pet foods has a bit of competition. In the dog market, that is. Good thing this place offers way more options for other animals (plus cheaper prices for those not wanting to pay the price at Bark and Fitz). I like this place because it has a huge bird feed section, with loads of different kinds of feeders and seeds for cheap prices. Plus, with High Park so close, you can easily grab some seed and go feed the chickadees for the afternoon. read more

This place was great a while back, there was a girl that worked there who always remembered us and was super helpful and knew all our pets by name, including our cats. Then a couple of months ago we started noticing that service was getting a bit bad. There was one instance that this girl was talking to my partner and I asking about our cat and I assume the boss walked by and she completely changed and stopped talking. I was a bit confused but let it go. Then I wanted to change my older dogs diet because of his weight issues, I was at the register and asked the woman helping me if she had any suggestions or tips on food people usually buy or that they get good reviews for weight loss for seniors... she turned her back to me and was talking to her co worker and left me there. I figured since you work in a pet shop you should have at least a bit of knowledge for customers but I guess not here. Also, every-time we went in we got followed HARD. Now, my partner works retail and I work Loss Prevention so we understand the "is there anything I can do to help you?" but usually when someone says no thank you, just grabbing something or browsing you get left alone. They would come "stock" or "clean" and look at "inventory" EVERY SINGLE TIME. We have nothing to hide but found this extremely uncomfortable. The big issue came today, We adopted a dog from the THS who was a street dog in Mexico and has issues with people crowding him, He is big and his yawn sounds like a lion growling but a gentle giant but again LOUD. EVERY SINGLE store we go into, we get greeted and asked about him because he looks un easy and we were told that we need to socialize him into society like normal. Every employee in these stores are amazing, ask what they can do to help him, offer to give him treats, or simply give us space so he eases into the environment including the Global at Kew Beach. The manager at this store comes up to us hovering over him, making him panic and also making it seem like he is going to attack customers asking them to move out of the way, all while they are looking at her saying its ok, she blocked my partner, Logan, and also my small dog who has a broken leg and was in a stroller with pillows from coming in and blocked the door. Yes, Logan does growl.. Yes, he barks... BUT give him space and we can handle it and all will be fine. You work in a PET SHOP. Dogs BARK, Logan barks when he's playing. If we see that there is any danger we remove our selves from the situation, which we never had to do because other stores and people understand rescues and give us the chance to correct him. My partner went in once with him alone after coming from pet valu because at the time we were buying big country raw for my smaller dog and global doesn't carry it, this guy got treats and my partner had a conversation with the girl that works there about him and guess what? she understood and they were able to have a whole conversation with him quietly by their side, then she went to global for the big guys food, there was a man who asked to pet Logan and my partner said no because he isn't great with men and he barked, Lisa told everyone to hide behind the counters and shelves because of our dog? seriously? Way to cause chaos. If you have and issue pull us aside and give us a chance to correct it, don't yell at us in front of everyone and cause unnecessary panic to other customers. Give us space he will stop and be corrected. Sadly, this is the only store close by that sells his brand of food and he has a sensitive stomach to everything and we cant just switch but we will need to because Lisa and the employees who have zero customer service skills made us unwelcome here. Also, it's sad that an organization like Bullies in need uses this place as an event space. Considering the manager of the store makes big dogs seem like monsters, I can imagine bringing a pit bull rescue into the store, she would probably go on lock down if the dog so much as sneezed. read more

I ran out of cat food over the Easter long weekend and made an emergency stop here. I normally go to a large commercial pet supply chain because of the selection, but since that wasn't available I made the closest stop to my house. I dropped in on a windy afternoon and was warmly greeted and helped by two staff members who were beyond knowledgeable. I was able not only to pick up a great brand of healthy and clean cat food, but cat treats that I was ensured I could return if my picky cat didn't like it for no extra costs or hassle. The cat items I chose were all natural and Canadian products. My cat is very happy. read more

I'd give zero stars as no pet store should deny water for any dogs. Perhaps next time staff should consider that like family pets are deserving of the same basic needs. Or at least leave a bowl of water outside when it's degrees. read more

I love this Global and will go out of my way to shop here - nice friendly staff, a good selection of higher quality pet food brands and a great selection of frozen raw pet foods in the freezers at the back. They also save and donate extra food and returns to local animal rescue groups like Annex Cat Rescue. read more

I had a fantastic experience at this global pet foods! I just got a puppy and the staff helped me get everything I needed so that I was totally ready when he came along. They have a great selection of food brands and I didn't feel pressured into trying any specific ones, they simply outlined the benefits of each company and let me make the final decision. The staff knew everything I asked about, and the one instance in which they couldn't provide an answer they looked it up online while I browsed. If your looking into feeding raw food, (I was curious) there is a young man there who is very knowledgeable and apparently makes his own, he was super helpful to me. The store must have recently renovated because the lights were quite bright and everything is nicely organized, they even have a 'do it yourself ' dogwash station. Store Manager is RUDE and dismissive! Have been buying dog food there for over a yr $80 a month (Acana). Left a reciept there to add to my account (only a manager can add in Receipts) had purchased food at a different location as this location was out of Acana. Also Bought 2 bleached bones there last night, with in 20 mins, there were chunks on the floor. Dogs are labs not heavy chewers like Rotts or Boxers or Pitbulls. I called to find out if my recipet was recieved and if it had been added to my account. Also to say that this product is defective, as I've purchased many bleached bones over many years they last a long time and do not fall apart like this. Manager does not offer a refund or store credit just says " I've never heard that before" and " receipt? no i don't have it, do you want me to check my file right now?. Yes I say as it takes forever to collect the free bag. She returns after a while and says I have it I will preocess it later. I asker her about the bones again she says, I've never head of that before. Thanks for the free bag Acana that I finally recieved, I will be taking my business else where, this manager is the worst I've encounted in a long time! About a month ago, I bought some Zodiac Flea Serum from the Global Pet Foods Store in Bloor West Village. Since then, when consulting with 3 Veterinarians, I have learned that this is an extremely dangerous product to use on your pets. They said that some poor animals have even come into their clinics close to death due to this product. With concern, I mentioned to the owner of Global Pet Foods that he should consider removing this Flea serum off his shelf but his response was patronizing and he just blew me off! My advise to you is to never trust Global Pet Foods and more importantly protect your pets with a safer method of fighting against fleas and mites. Terrible customer service. I was with my baggy and struggled to open the door. One of the staff saw me try to open the door but she didn't bother to come help or to ask other staff to go open the door for me. At the cash, one of the staff, probably the manager, saw me with a product but didn't say anything to me and looked for other staff to come to the cash. Even when she asked the staff, she didn't say a word, just used her chin like come over here now! And of course she didn't say anything at all to me whereas she could say something like "someone will help you with cash shortly"... And again, when I left, no one helped me to hold the door and other customer opened the door for me. Never going back there. Less than one star. read more
