For anyone considering renting a car in Montreal during the summer, you might want to take this as…read morea warning - see below. In short, we arrived on time for our pickup, and none of the 3 cars that our family had rented were ready.  The person at the counter said that it might be an hour, but maybe a lot more; there was no certainty. Shockingly, she added that if our cars were only 1-2 hours late, we shouldactually feel pretty lucky(!?) - during the summer high tourist season, rental cars are constantly overbooked by Budget (and possibly other rental car companies).  She said it's a constant problem there in Montreal, and that recently some other customers' reserved rental cars were over A DAY late. I appreciated her honesty, but we were all floored and angry that Budget would do this.  If they don't have many cars, I get it, but that's no excuse for renting cars that aren't actually going to be available. In the end, our whole family of 11 people had to kill time for 2 hours in the middle of our vacation, until the cars were all ready.  We missed a restaurant reservation that we had put a deposit on, as well as activities we had planned. Also, even when Budget finally had the cars available, they didn't have the car seat we had reserved.  They said there was nothing they could do.  This left us in the very difficult position of either finding a store that sold car seats on vacation and buying one out of our own pockets just for a day and a half of driving, OR driving illegally in a foreign country at our own risk. I'm not sure what we could have possibly done to avoid this.  It sounds like Budget just overbooks their cars.  Regardless - REALLY not happy with our experience.

First of all let me make it clear that I am leaving one star because I have no choice! If it were up to me I'd leave none! I've been renting from budget for 10 years plus in Toronto. My loyalty to Budget has been attributed from their customer service, quality of cars and most importantly for me the cleanliness compared to cheaper places. However I have recently moved to Montreal and unfortunately have not received the same quality of service from this location! On countless occasions I had to kindly ask them to wash super filthy cars given to me. This time around not only was the outside covered in WET dirt with their attempt to wash it but the inside had food in the doors juice and I guess coffee splashed on the doors! It was an absolute mess! When mentioned to the operations manager he advised me to rent a Limo instead that their do not detail their cars! What great service! After sticking it out with this location for the last 3 years!!!! After being treated like that today, this was my last time renting there! So long Budget!

Very very very bad customer service. Like the Soup N*zi in Seinfeld…read more The worst part is there are reviews below of the same guy Karim Hamrouni treating other customers horribly from two years ago, acting like he is the only car rental place in a small town in Algeria or Pakistan so he has power over customers and can treat them like garbage. He's still there. I don't see how I could trust Enterprise again. I got a Mercedes with a bad shimmy from the location near the airport, for a long-term insurance rental. When I got home, I called, they said they didn't have any cars they could give me, but I could exchange it at any location of Enterprise. I spoke with the Enterprise location nearest me, 1717 Berri, and explained I would like to exchange for a RAV-4, and they agreed. But when I arrived, the clerk told me that the "manager had decided" (against company rules) that they don't do exchanges, I would have to go back to the location that rented me the car, out at the airport. I reluctantly agreed, and left with the Mercedes with the shimmy. Calling the airport location, I'm informed they have no equivalent cars they could give me. Then I realized I could simply return the one with the shimmy and close that contract, then rent another car. I have up to $5000 to spend on any kind of transport while my car is being repaired. So I called back the 1717 Berri location, explained the above to a guy on the phone, who turned out to be the manager who behind the scenes had refused against company rules to exchange the car earlier. He kept getting the story wrong, saying I had already exchanged the car and now I want to exchange again? Even though he was the one who refused the exchange earlier. I said I'd be there at noon. He said he was busy then and asked me to come at 1:30 so he could have the time to "help me". When I got there, he was being passive-agressive, pretending to not be able to find my reservation, and saying "at the end of the day, we are trying to help you". Which he clearly was not so far. Walking towards the elevator to the car pickup area in the basement, he starts saying, so the car didn't have a shimmy when you got it, you've had it for a month and now you're saying you didn't cause the problem? Why did you wait a month? I had already discussed the situation with him at least four times: I had the Mercedes with the shimmy for one day. It is defective. I want to exchange for a RAV-4. So now he is making up false statements: the Mercedes didn't have a shimmy when I got it, and that I had had it for a month, saying again he was just trying to help me, when clearly he was not. At this point I am getting a bit annoyed and said, look, now you're making up false statements that are detrimental to me. I don't want to talk about this to you anymore, I just want to return the car and rent a new one. The guy snapped. He refused to get in the elevator, thrusting the Mercedes keys back at me, saying "I'll teach you how to talk to people". Take your keys back and leave. I'm not taking it back, and not renting you another one. Go away or I'll call security. I said to him, "I apologize". He snapped back, "There is no apology for that. I will teach you how to talk to people". I followed him back to the counter, and said, I think it's pretty clear I should deal with someone else. He said, "No, I am the manager, there is no one else, and I have decided. I am not taking your return and not renting you a car. Get away from my desk area, this is private property, do you want me to call security?". Then he said: and I don't care how you get out of the parking garage with your car. I'm not giving you a pass, you'll have to figure that out. I'll teach you how to talk to people! It turns out if you don't have a pass to get out, you have to pay the lost ticket rate, i.e. $22.50 daily parking rate or whatever it was. This guy is spitefully saying he knew he was causing me this problem. I went back down to the garage and the Mercedes with the shimmy and saw the key drop-off return box for Enterprise, so I took many pictures of the Mercedes inside and out, put the keys in the drop box with the gas and mileage and took a taxi home. The worst customer service I've experienced this millennium. Looking at other reviews, this guy has been pulling his Little Hitler power-trip act, treating customers like garbage to show he is superior to them, and causing serious problems with people's travel plans for over two years. But I would not choose to do business with Enterprise again knowing that Enterprise has been tolerating this guy treating customers like garbage and himself like a king who has total power, and he's still there. What kind of company would let that happen? P.S. Enterprise asked me to email them contact info and reservation numbers so they could address the issue, so I did... and they never replied. Low-quality operation all around. Not recommended.

Once they acknowledge you go buy a cafe and a croissant as your car won't be ready and when you ask "is it ready" they will say "yes it is" but you can't go see it yet because they want it to be a surprise like Christmas morning. Do all Enterprise locations hate their customers? I don't know but I'm looking forward to being insulted, ignored, gaslit, and generally insulted in more because there are no other rental car companies. Oh, wait, there are! And I'll use them.
