looking for the out of the way thing in Paris that no one talks about? Seek out the Gloriette de Buffon.
I can't say we knew it was there before we came across it. We were doing a semi-planned walk across Southwest Paris and had already wandered into some surprising sights.
We were working our way around the Botanical gardens, ab beautiful park, when we came upon some sort of hill with a metal sculpture on the top.
I looked at the map and couldn't make much of it other than the name, Gloriette de Buffon. we circled around it when we realized that it seemed to be a maze. Pretty cool.
it was a basic one in concentric circles but it was neat to happen upon. When we made it to the top we stood under a beautiful gazebo.
I read up that it was built in honor of the warden of the garden some 200 years back. We stood there, enjoying the moment and the view. We were raised above the park and the maze, and could see others working there way through the tall thick bushes that created the labyrinth . We saw many things in Paris that day, but we will never forget rising to the top of the summit of that beautiful place. read more
