Yes we're basic American tourists, what can I tell you hehe. My husband and I travelled to Paris for part of our honeymoon and of course we had to come to the Le Pont des Arts bridge to attach our own lock! The bridge was actually reconstructed recently as it was getting so heavy with locks that there was a fear it would collapse. It is very old and wooden. So to correct the issue, there is now glass where the metal beams once were, making it impossible to attach locks to. However, there are still metal posts every few feet, where people were creative enough to wrap heavy chains around them, creating a new way to attach the locks! So of course there are already a ton attached hehe. I definitely recommend checking this bridge out if in the area. It's such a staple!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE BRIDGE IN PARIS ================================= The main reason I love this bridge is that it is a pedestrian bridge and you don't have to worry about getting run over by car while you are angling for that perfect shot. I also like the fact that the view of the city is incredible. Note: You do however need to watch out for bicyclists because I almost got run over by one of those.
My husband & I were wandering around the streets of Paris one afternoon with no particular plan in place... We just knew to head in the direction of our hotel which was right next to the Louvre. We saw the river Seine up in the distance and as we approached the water, we just so happen to come across the Pont des Arts bridge. I was happily excited that we made it here unexpectedly (I took it off from our itinerary since I didn't think we'd have time). Serendipity maybe? It's just one of those things that you should do/see if you have the time. We did the "love locks" thing once before when we were at the Romeo & Juliet house in Verona, Italy. Since we were on our honeymoon, I thought it was fitting that we would do it again! For years, visitors have been attaching locks with sentimental messages to the bridge in symbolic acts of affection -- a tradition often followed by throwing the key into the Seine River below. The tradition all started from a 2006 Italian young adult novel-turned-film which started in Rome and spread... or so they say. We bought our locks from a nearby vendor. Wrote our initials on the locks and threw the key away into the Seine below. Such a novel idea. It was fun and I loved seeing all the locks that lined the bridge. We were lucky that we got to experience the bridge before they put up all the plexiglass to deter people from putting their love on "lockdown" on the bridge.
Like all of the bridges crossing the Seine this one is beautiful. Because this is the infamous Love Bridge you will find vendors during the day hounding you to buy souvenirs, locks and other assorted junk which is why I'm knocking off a star. Don't let them deter you from visiting and taking some pics. They have installed plexiglass along the bridge to deter people from placing locks but people are still attaching them to poles and wires on the bridge. Definitely worth a visit. If you cross at night the vendors are gone and you can really enjoy the peace and beautiful view.
I honestly think that this bridge is unique and quite artsy in it's own way... This is one of those must see places when visiting Paris especially as you make your way to the Louvre as it is very close. Yes, there are a ton of locks that are mounted on the bridge but there is also some fantastic artwork on the side as well as some fantastic musicians/street performed that you'll encounter. Overall, I'd highly recommend taking a stroll up this bridge as its likely a sight you'll never forget. I had read about this bridge somewhere, and we went to go see it. It was a pleasant walk from our apartment. The sun was slowly going down. There is something beautiful and almost magical during the twilight in Paris. Judge for yourself from the pictures. For those of you who don't know, "A couple writes their names on a padlock and locks it onto one of the bridges. They then throw the key into the Seine River as a symbol of their undying love. Some say the only way to break the seal of love brought on by this love lock act is to find the key and unlock the padlock. Of course, that is nearly impossible, since the keys lie at the bottom of the river." So if you go, and bring a lock with your names on it, make sure it's forever!
Apparently they replaced the original bridge with a new one with plexiglass. I was so confused trying to look for the damn "bridge with the love locks" when i realized i was walking back and forth on it the entire time. HAH! Any who, the remnants of what is still left behind, is very cute and romantic. some terribly sad. I'm glad i got to check this one off of my bucket-list.

It was great to finally see this bridge in person. It's sorta anti-climatic, to be honest. haha. Perhaps it was the view of all the locks linked to the bridge metal wires, and most of the wiring was rusted, or the locks just looked so heavy on the bridge itself. Who knows? Some parts of the bridge were covered up by wooden panels (that had graffiti on them), so it was kinda a sore sight to see. However, my husband and I brought our lock from the USA and placed it on the bridge! You wouldn't believe it, but we were able to locate an area of the bridge metal wire to attach our lock. It takes some hunting and maneuvering of the other locks to come up with a space. Our location was in the middle of the bridge too, so that was pretty awesome. :) I wonder if this bridge will be taken down one day, since some of the bridge metal wires were coming apart!
This is a beautiful area to visit in Paris. I loved how there are several bridges on this part of the river where you can get some great views and photos. The love lock bridge is very charming! I know many people say that the bridges are being damaged and it's not good to throw your keys in the river, but it's just such a cute idea I couldn't resist. Even though we know there is a good change out lock will be cut off or covered with a wooden plank. The whole experience was so memorable! We purchased our lock down a little bit from the main bridge and we were able to get a pretty good deal on it. The lock was really cute and had hearts engraved on it. Some parts of the bridge have been covered by wooden panels, I think this was because of graffiti. So when taking your pictures try not to stand too close to the panels because they don't look too good. We spend a good amount of time walking along the river and up and down the various bridges. There is a bridge near Notre Dame that provides a beautiful view!
As everyone else has said, this is a bridge covered in tons of colorful locks. People buy a lock and clip it to the bridge and throw the key into the water so it can never be unlocked. Many tourists come here with a loved one to do this, but any one can do it. Lots of people write the names of themselves and their loved one or a favorite quote, etc and sometimes the date. I walked down the block from the louvre and bought a lock for 5e. They offered to engrave it with names for another 10e, but I asked them for a marker to write on it instead. The weight from the locks on the bridge have caused some of the wires to break, so parts of the bridge are boarded up so that no more locks can be added. In spite of that, I found a spot for my lock in the middle of the bridge. Perfect location! Just another fun thing to do while in Paris!
Incredible views of the Seine and the back side of the Palais du Louvre. I was expecting to see the bridge full of padlocks which is a symbol of love however at some time they removed all the panels and replaced them with lucite. I guess to keep from weighing it down and falling in the Seine. I bought a padlock but left it home in the states and didn't want to buy another. I was happy to share it with my true love, my son Xavier!!
Love Locks!!! My last Yelp for Paris was my favorite place. I am a sucker for cheesy corny touristy places and this is hands down one of my favorite. If you did not bring your own lock, there are plenty of vendors all around the area that sell them. They do not open early morning so you have to go around noon to buy them. Bad part about that is, it is packed with tourist at that time! The locks do cost more at these vendors, we walked the street, average price was 3-5 euro for a nice one. Worth the price to be apart of the bridge! Seeing all the locks up close is pretty awesome. Remember to bring a marker so you can write on your lock! Find a spot, lock your lock, and feel the love!

You can no longer place locks on the bridge, which I understand since it was causing structural issues. They put glass on the sides so people don't try anything but that made it lose all its appeal. It was interesting though to see all the other places on this bridge people try to place their locks, like lampposts, on the construction fence, etc. It seems the new 'it' place to put your love locks on is over in Montmartre at the Basilica du Sacre Couer. read more
Though it is now illegal to secure your love onto the bridge, many still sneak latch their forever promise despite stressing the structural integrity of the bridge. Nothing can stop love, not even a ticket from law enforcement ;) read more

Like all of the bridges crossing the Seine this one is beautiful. Awwww Pont de Art..... I heart you! A bridge full of so many colorful love locks on the Seine river. What's not to love? It's astounding! It is magical, beautiful and just so ahhhh. I've walked on this bridge for several times in the early morning. My apartment was right around the corner on Saint Germaine Boulevard. Talk about closeness. It gets more crowed toward the noon time but it is still beautiful. You can walk it, you can run it, you can just sit and take in the views. Eiffel tower is just down the river. You can see it. The reason you will go here for- lock(s)!! Lock (s) for eternal love!! Bring any lock you want, put it somewhere and throw the key in the river. You throw the key(s) into the river so that the lock can never be broken.You'd think such little task shouldn't make you so happy and overjoyed but it totally does. I went and put my bright pink lock on this very bridge. A few days later, my best friend who was happened to be in Paris went to this same bridge. Out of thousands of locks, she spotted mine!! And put her lock next to it. Isn't that special??? And I exploded facebook with a million pictures :)) Since then, over a dozen plus of my friends made it to this bridge. Put their love locks on and took pictures. Without fail, they all happened to be next to mine!! Came across a photographer's picture on IG this morning and whaaaaaaa, my lock is still there. Who knew a little lock can bring you so much joy??!! Oh yea, you can also renact the Big & Carrie scene on this spot if you're the Sex and the city fan!! Eeeee My advice? Grab a lock when you are in Paris. You can add it for anyone you love and adore. Your significant others, your mom, your dad, besties! It also helps that this stunning bridge is right next to the Louvre. You can stroll around the birdge, walk to the museo! Walk down the river. And just fall in love with all things Parih. Can't wait to go back in a few months!! read more

One of my favorite pictures in Paris of me and the hubby was taken on the Pont des Arts bridge around 10 pm, just before sunset! With the Seine, Pont Neuf and the Île de la Cité in the background, and the skies aglow, you can't help but love this pedestrian bridge. We happened to cross this bridge during Paris' Fête de la Musique from the Left Bank, so the bridge was also alive with music. Love locks have been taken off the parapets, and replaced with colorful boards to prevent more locks from being added. The locks have been weighing down the bridge and are making the bridge unsafe for people. But don't despair if you must proclaim and commemorate your love that way. The locks on the side rails along the left and right banks of the Seine are still there. You can always add your lock there without compromising the integrity of the bridge. Careful taking pictures on the bridge with your phone! Your phone can easily slip in between the wooden slats that make up the floor of the bridge! Otherwise, enjoy the fact that you don't have to worry about cars and cabs running you over! read more
Le Pont des Arts is by all accounts pretty famous, built in 1804, under the reign of Napoleon I, it's most notably the first metal bridge constructed in Paris. With the history lesson over, 'Love Lock Bridge' has fast become a destination for sneaky lovebirds to affix padlocks,'disposing of the key below in the murky river below. A seemingly romantic gesture & testament to undying love? Gross right? Sort of... if I wasn't such a weak sentimentalist by all accounts. Dammit! Due to recent damage & reports that part of a parapet collapsed in 2014 under the weight of all of the padlocks, plexiglass has now been installed to deter loved-up vigilantes further destroying the bridge. As of 2015, it's reported that over a million locks have been affixed, weighing approximately 45 tons. Crazy right! As a result it's become impossible to secure new locks to the bridge. That being said, Le Pont des Arts has remained a popular attraction, offering stunning views along the Seine River, back towards Notre Dame. An absolute must visit on any trip to Paris. read more

This is one of those iconic spots for lovers that has been destroyed by the need for public safety. So many locks were placed on this bridge by couples intent on pledging their eternal love for one another, it actually undermined its structural engineering. So the French decided they would rebuild the side rails, and not sure what happened to the years of accumulated padlocks- maybe they are at the bottom of the Seine? (like so many of the relationships that began there?) Metaphorically speaking. If you find yourself in this neighborhood, by all means have a look, there are still some locks there, but otherwise history has moved on and this has become yet another "fromagey" attraction. Who does not love a beautiful bridge over a world famous "rive" anyway? Go ahead, buy a lock and a sharpie from one of the many vendors right there and add your padlock to the pile, that will someday be "re-located" never to be seen again. read more

This bridge is near the Louvre and a few blocks away from the Rue Ferris wheel. The bridge is full of locks that symbolize people's love for one another. A lot of the locks are brought from all over the world either engraved or written on with the same purpose of locking together their love in hopes of forever. It is nice to know many people share this hope of forever love. I believe the lock does cause havoc as it weighs down the bridge and has to be cut down eventually, but it's more about the symbolism that is a lovely thing to participate in. Take a stroll down this bridge and stop to look at the locks. The views are amazing! read more
This place is a must-see when in Paris. Especially for couples ;) It is so much fun to place your own lock on this bridge. Very romantic right? Haha. Be sure to make a nice picture of your own lock because so much new locks get added everyday, you wont find yours back again if you visit again in a few months ;) Even when you are not planning to place a lock yourself it is very cool to see this bridge and watch other people. The bridge looks amazing and the view here is also great. This place is in the middle of town so it is easy to find and to travel too. read more
Pont des Arts is one of the most romantic places I've experienced in Paris. I heard about the locks on the bridges, stumbled on a few wannabe lock bridges (is this THE bridge?), and then finally found the famous Pont des Arts just by wandering. The bridge was wide and strong but weighed down by the many locks. It's amazing that people find space to leave their lock. When you are determined and powered by love, I guess you find a way. If you don't have a lock with you, there is always some merchant standing by ready to sell you one for about 6 euros. You can even find them at the nearby street carts. We stood hand in hand, admiring the locks left by other tourists and lovers. Should we? It was an awkward few minutes. In the end, we valued money to buy a meal more. So we saved our pocket euros for later. Nonetheless, we still had a great time on the bridge taking pictures, sitting down to reflect, and reading all the inscriptions on the locks. Some were from years ago and some are fresh. It's a bridge full of history and you literally feel the memories it is built upon. read more
Nothing is quite as cool to any true hipster than a bridge littered with literally thousands upon thousands of locks that have been affixed to it and the keys strewn into the water. I mean come on...it's every lovebirds ideal spot to prove their undying love to one another. Now they say you're supposed to write a love message or put your initials on a lock, find a place to lock it to, and throw the keys in the Seine. Aside from Sacre Couer, this is easily one of my favorite places to visit whenever I'm in Paris. On any given sunny day, the bridge glistens a golden hue that matches the sunlight streaming onto the Seine. It is magical and it always takes my breath away. There are actually a few other bridges, but this is the most famous connecting Right and Left bank because of its proximity to the Louvre. The part that takes my breath away is the sheer number of locks on the bridge, sometimes folding over each other like barnacles growing on a rock. Some locks make their way onto lamp posts (!) and anything on the bridge they can hang off. Some locks are huge plates with engraved writing, some are small handwritten with simple love notes. To add your love: 1) Bring your own lock, engrave / write your message and lock it onto the bridge 2) Buy a lock at a local souvenir shop along the Seine, tons of shops. They are about 4 euros for small and 10 euros for large ones. Anything above is paying too much. Haggle if need be. They'll provide you with a permanent marker for your message The story goes .... for eternal love, you throw the key(s) into the river ... so that the lock can never be broken. All that romance aside... apparently, this is considered vandalism, but the govt does not seem to care / mind. It has become way too much of a tourist attraction that it probably won't ever go away. read more
Tons of locks. My hubs and I went there for our honeymoon. So we went and bought a lock which you should buy outside the bridge for 5 pounds. Don't buy the lock on the bridge. They will try to rip you off. So we got the lock on it was hard to find a space but we eventually did and locked our lock. We threw the keys in the river. And now we are forever on the bridge... Unless someone tears it down.... There are other bridges starting to do locks but this was the original! :) Do it. Trust me. If you are unsure about the relationship use a lock with a combination. ;) read more
I had let my friend know that I wanted to see the bridge of locks, and a couple minutes later, we stumbled across it! They had boarded much of the bridge to prevent people from adding locks as the bridge is sinking from all the weight, but it was nice to see. There are still vendors selling locks on the bridge, and people seem to find various ways of adding on their treasured lock with their loved one. Great bridge to take photos too! read more
Pont Des Arts (or Passerelle des Arts) is one of Paris' most famous bridges. It's fully pedestrianised, and links the Institut de France and the Palais du Louvre. For many years, couples have attached paddocks to the frame of the bridge, inscribed with their initials or messages. Very romantic indeed :) Unfortunately, Parisienne officials have recently had to take the step of removing these - due to the weight of the locks, the metal frame was buckling. This has now been replaced with hardboard panels with graffiti art. And i love it - there are all sorts of images depicted, from overly political, to romantic cartoons. And turtles. Behold the first of my long awaited Paris reviews! Yay! Pont des Arts is a footbridge by the Louvre, and from what I'm told, was the first metal bridge across the Seine. Unfortunately, it was damaged in both WW1 and WW2 and had to be replaced by the current bridge. The bridge itself is a beautiful place to visit, with people picnicking on it, and artists painting. You are surrounded by beautiful architecture on both sides, and lovely boats to-ing and fro-ing. Tis a must visit if only for a stroll along it's length. Of course the main attraction to this bridge for tourists are the love-locks. Many tourists simply know Pont des Arts as the Love Bridge. In what is considered to be possibly the most romantic city on earth, it is no surprise that many couples wish to leave their own lock behind. And although I was with my best friend instead of my boyfriend, I couldn't resist leaving one behind. You write your names on the lock, attach it to the bridge and throw the key into the water below, which is supposed to represent that nothing can tear you apart. On the approach to the bridge, you will notice some enterprising characters selling locks and markers. If you plan on doing it and don't want to pay over the odds, get one from your local pound shop or dollar store and personalise it beforehand. Some even go as far as to have one specially made. I did learn afterwards that the weight of the keys is in fact causing the bridge to sink. Almost every inch of the railings are covered in padlocks and you can imagine the sheer weight of all that unexpected metal pushing on the foundations. I may have felt a bit guilty contributing to it, and the locals have mixed feelings about it too. The local authorities appreciate that it is an attraction and the sentiments are appreciated, but naturally they are also concerned with protecting the bridge. Le Pont des Arts is known as the "Love Lock Bridge". This infamous bridge was built in 1804 along the Seine River towards Notre Dame. Millions of ppl from all over the whole would stop by to check off one of the buckets list of things to do in Paris. The goal is to place a padded lock on the bridge to represent the romantic testament of eternal love between love birds. From the distance this sight is epic. But when you get closer to view the bridge, you can see the recent damages of the bridge from the weight of the locks. Paris started removing all the locks in 2016 and replaced the bridge with fences that's impossible to place locks. Don't worry. There are still random places around the area where you can still place locks. You can walk a few bridges down from the main bridge where there are new sightings of locks gradually building. There is no where in the world where you will be able to see this sightings. This bridge is the unique "Love Lock Bridge" which will never be replaced with any other bridge in the world. Pls make sure to stop by. It's worth spending an hour with your love ones. read more
