I hosted a party for about 85 people at the Elks on June 10th and I have nothing but good things to say about this venue. Kimberley Banks was my contact leading up to the event; she was a consummate professional when it came to planning the details (big and small). Patty ran the show the day of the event and was always available when I needed her. This venue is unique in that it is both affordable and elegant. Oh, and the water views cannot be beat! read more

We had our wedding July 2019. We lucked out with pretty amazing weather but we would say we really lucked out because of our venue and stellar coordinator-- Emily! She was so responsive and patient and kind and helpful! We couldn't of asked for a more caring and genuine soul to help us plan our special day! The value was priceless. You can't get better ocean views and the first look spot is to die for! We are so appreciative of all our vendors that night including... Gourmet Delights-- (roxann thank you!!) Mike Negron -- best DJ ever! Tewksbury transit-- on time school Bus shuttles! Russell's florist-- beautiful sunflower bouquets! @knmweddings -- above and beyond photography Angry donuts NBPT -- delicious donuts!! @Exclipx_hair-- Natalie you are so talented! @melissa_mack_makeup -- sooo skillful and attentive Rockport inn and suites--- room blocks, director chairs for makeup and hair, and allowing us to stay outside and use fire pit for a bit of an after party till 1am while everyone enjoyed the pizza you kept for us-- thank you! What a nice venue to have a wedding on the water! The space was simple yet elegantly decorated, and the catering and event services were top-notch. Heads up to any guests of a venue at the Elks - there are benches across the way overlooking the water that are property of the neighboring inn, which means Elks guests can't use them. read more

We had our wedding this past weekend and I cannot being to express how perfect everything was. Emily, the coordinator, was always available to take my call and answer any and all questions I had throughout the entire planning process. (The day of our wedding, she had a personal emergency, which she let me know about as soon as she could, and Brittany jumped in to help. She was wonderful as well!!) No issues whatsoever. We were lucky enough that the weather cooperated and we had our wedding on the front lawn. The scene was perfect, the room was decorated exactly to my vision, the entire place was clean and just perfect. Beautiful and professional!! Went to a wedding here this past weekend! Beautiful place to get married! That is...if u dont mind cars beeping at you and yelling "woohoooo" out their car windows as they drive by. Since the road is between the beach and the venue. Like many other venues in Gloucester. Outside was really pretty and ready for all guests to sit and relax while waiting for everything to begin! Bathrooms were super convenient at the front of the entrance Cocktail hour was amazing . Hors d'oeuvres were AMAZING!!! Lemon chicken skewers, crab cakes, veggie pot stickers, raspberry brie puffs, coconut shrimp!! All delicious!!! Staff was amazing with bringing around plenty of them!! I tasted everything! I have been to weddings where I got only maybe one or two hors d'oeuvres but...no lack of them here at the Elks!!! Food was fantastic! Bread was warm and soft...salads were very fresh and flavorful! My boyfriend and I both got the filet!! Very good! Drinks were great too!! Dance floor was great! Only issue: the staff cleared dishes a little to quickly...taking drinks half full while we danced and cleared off all our belongings before we left...we lost pics from our photo booth bc of this :/ but oh well! They were efficient!!! We would def recommend weddings here!! They aren't kidding when they say The Elks at Bass...ROCKS!!!! read more

We just had our wedding here this past weekend. It was better than I could have dreamed. The Elks is beautiful and spacious inside and if you're lucky like me and get the nice weather, it is beautiful out on the lawn for a ceremony. People commented that they felt like they were on the ocean. Inside with the large windows, the view is just stunning with the backdrop of the ocean outside. There is a bridal suite up the beautiful wooden staircase where I was able to get ready with my bridesmaids.. there are couches and a big table up there for snacks and beauty supplies and resting. Faye and Bronwen were very accommodating and helpful. Faye was there with us the whole time and helped set up the room with my bridal party and kept everything organized and kept me calm with her friendly demeanor. They were very helpful ad accommodating to all my requests and changes and made sure the room was set up just the way I asked. What a great day! The caterer we used through the Elks was Creative Catering - people are still talking about how wonderful the food was. They even brought food outside for us while we were photo shooting. I will also be writing a review for them - they were also super awesome. Thank you for making my dream wedding even better than I imagined !!!!!! read more

I can't begin to tell you how amazing this venue is. Our coordinator, Emily, was absolutely amazing. She made sure every detail was taken care of. I have had more compliments since our wedding this past weekend 6/10/17. Everyone was amazed by the view. We stayed right next door at the Ocean House Hotel, which was also amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better day. We went with Creative Catering and they were absolutely perfect. I highly recommend this location. It is the absolute best value for a waterfront wedding. read more

The venue was beautiful for our wedding but the event coordinator was horrendous. She was pushy and annoying the entire evening. It didn't help that she broke our champagne glasses. I would definitely use the venue again but set some limits with the coordinator. read more

For a low cost, we were able to buy tickets for a 2 hour midafternoon cruise on a large beautiful sailing vessel, a 4 sail schooner. It was easy to find them at Gloucester harbour, parking was a breeze, boarding the boat no problem. The crew was kind and courteous and experienced. We got out of port under engine power, but then the sails came up, with help from all parties who wanted to volunteer. Once they were up, we were off, doing a brisk 14 knots and making turns and changes of course as needed. The cruise was wonderful. You could see everything on the coasts and on the ocean, it was a sunny day, and a sailing breeze greeted us the entire voyage. It was sublime. The voyage finally ended (all too soon) and one of the crew took time to get some merchandise for my wife for our kids. So nice! Very recommended!

Even with unusually short notice, they did a phenomenal job: They helped plan all the remaining details, bringing our attention to things we had not considered and giving us great ideas and recommendations all along the way. Their experience planning and coordinating numerous weddings gave us the confidence to trust their advice. They took care of all the setup/breakdown and decorations with detail and precision. They personalized the design to our needs. They researched vendors we had not yet secured, priced out and purchased all of the extras needed for the setup (e.g. flowers, linens, desserts, personalized signs), and coordinated with the venue, vendors, and ceremony participants beforehand and on the day of. I cannot even list all the details they managed, and they made sure everything was covered. Before we hired them, we were doing all the planning ourselves (in the midst of busy work schedules and moving). I honestly cannot imagine how we would have finished the remaining planning and setup/breakdown without their help. They took a huge load off our shoulders and allowed us (and our family and friends) to thoroughly enjoy our wedding week with as little stress as possible. All of this was for a reasonable price, far more affordable than what many wedding planners and coordinators charge. The wedding was beautiful from start to finish, and our family and friends are still talking about it. I would absolutely recommend Sweetly Designed Events for a wedding or any other major event.

The boat was clean and well equipped. Captain Kevin and his first mate gave clear and detailed instructions on how to catch the bait, cast in the right spot, and how to hook up when we got a bite. The first mate did a great job of cleaning and filleting our catch. They were especially patient with my wife, who struggled a bit with casting and hooking up with fish. (she ended up catching more than me and the biggest one that had to be released) Captain Kevin's instincts are spot on! He knew exactly when to move us to a new spot, so we never wasted time on the water. Additionally, Captain Kevin's recommendations for dining and local attractions were greatly appreciated. On our first morning, we headed for Gloucester harbor to take in the rich history the town had to offer. We really wanted to see the iconic Wicked Tuna boats so we ate in harbor and waited but no return. Instead of coming down the next day to get pictures, I decided that we should try and fish this historic area. With only one day to plan a fishing trip and my flight leaving back to Cali at 6:30 was a task within it self. we were at dinner when Captain Kevin had called us back stating that it would not be an issue and he would have us back to the harbor by 2 PM. We left the harbor at 5 AM as captain Kevin in lighted us with a deep history and knowledge that he had to offer. His first mate was Tristan, who had recently passed the captains test, was very knowledgeable and was getting us set up for the perfect day. The captain knew everything in the harbor, and everyone. Whole fishing that day, the Captain constantly stayed on the radio to get up-to-date information. After we caught our bait, we headed to the first spot and dropped our lines in the water. After waiting about an hr or so the captain decided to make an executive decision and move to the second location because of the reports on the radio. Once we arrived at our second location and dropped our lines in the water, we immediately saw whale activity. We were trying to get some food in our belly while we had a little time and then BOOM, FISH ON!!! With the captains instructions from earlier, we were all able to communicate and successfully land this fish. With the help of Tristan by my side, and the captain on the controls, we were able to land this fish in an hour and a half. With 1/3 of the line left from being chaffed, we were able to land this bad boy in the boat. She came in at 87 inches and 461 pounds being my best record of all times. If it wasn't for both of these captains and my tuna fishing experience, we could've easily lost her. Upon returning to the harbor, and dropping her off at the market, I was able to keep some head fillets, and the tail and I was off to the airport. I have fished all around the world and if you want true tuna fishing at its best, GO ON THIS BOAT!!! They have giving us an experience of a lifetime and memories for the rest of our life's. Our family thanks you for the most memorable experience we've ever had fishing. CALL CAPTAIN KEVIN and CALL CAPTAIN TRISTAN!!!

My experience with Gloucester Fleet wasn't very good. My son loves fishing and as a treat for being…read moretop of his high school graduating class, I figured his first ocean fishing trip would be a great reward. On July 8th, I booked a 3/4 day trip for July 20th and also an overnight stay at the Cape Ann Resort hotel. About 11:30 AM on July 19th as I and my son were starting out to the location from New York State, we received a call from Gloucester Fleet confirming the trip. Great! We took pics of the boat that evening. Next morning we head over to the boarding area. My son slept only two hours because he was so excited for the trip. There were no people around which was odd since we were only 20 minutes before the departure time of 7AM. Eventually, we called the Fleet number and spoke to the captain/owner who recalled his wife speaking to me the day before to confirm the trip. But, he had canceled the trip later on because too few customers to justify the fuel expense and called everybody - everybody except us (absolutely no call on my mobile account). So, WE lost money - my two vacation days from work, hotel expense, restaurant dinner, fuel for the trip, all totaled well over $1,000 and also about 8 hours of driving and the huge disappointment. Instead of being very apologetic and perhaps offering a free future trip and covering hotel expense, he said we could drive about 45 minutes (52 minutes per Google) to New Hampshire and if lucky get an 8AM boat that catches mackerel -- or, get this, go whale watching! He said all the other people were understanding -- but they were called the day before. If we'd received the cancelation call there would have been time to rearrange things. Curiously, there was a nearby fishing boat trip from a competitor that was sold out -- no lack of customers. I wonder why...

The Elks at Bass Rocks is absolutely b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!! I went to a wedding here June, 2010 and was blown away. At first I was a little skeptical to here that a wedding was taking place at an Elks. However it is not what you think. The scenery is breathtaking and the food was amazing! I enjoyed her wedding so much that I decided to book mine here! It is reasonably priced but your have to get your own catering and vendors. The events manager provides a list of vendors for you and gives you her opinion of each one. The only negative thing I can say about this venue is that there should be an outside deck attached to the hall so guest can hang out outside and still admire the view. They do utilize the outside front lawn for ceremonies. But if guests want to go out get some fresh sea breeze air or just smoke, they have to use the deck stairs for the front door which is one the side and adjacent from the parking lot. Beautiful, Breathtaking,Perfect, friendly, couldn't say anything else. read more
