Main reason for 3 stars is because of their student ID policy: you can only use your student ID if it has an expiration date on it. Mine doesn't, and there's nothing I can do about that since my school doesn't print them on their IDs. I said that I could provide an actual certificate of enrollment or a "Good Student Discount Certificate" from the National Student Clearing House, multiple other different ways of bona fide verification and she wouldn't let me. The woman at the front desk said that's the only way "she" (purportedly the owner/boss, who is not her) allows them to do it. I explained that those are just as good as a date on a card, but she still wouldn't let me and told me that "it was only $5 more so it's not that big of a deal." It was actually $8 more, and if that money isn't that big of a deal, they should have been fine with honoring my ID with multiple certificates. I'm not upset about compliance with the policy (other than the fact that telling someone to pay more money "isn't that big of a deal" is rude) but rather the policy itself; I think that disallowing someone to show other bona fide (arguably more credible) methods of enrollment verification is arbitrary. Seems like they try to get students in by having the student discount rate but ultimately not allowing them to use it so they still get the full price. Otherwise, the spray tan in the VersaSpa was mostly fine, I have been tanning in VersaPros regularly for about 5 years, and they have 3 nozzles (as opposed to the VersaSpa's 2) and I feel like I get a better tan with the VersaPros, so I feel like $35 is a little much to charge. Additionally, the mist coming from the nozzles felt very light, which means the nozzles probably haven't been cleaned, leaving your spray lighter. However, after only a couple minutes outside, the spray completely came off/ran under my boobs, which has never happened with any VersaPro I've used. It was also very light on my legs, but that happens with every Versa I've used. The nice thing about this place is that they provide towels, baby wipes, feet protectors for the bottom of your feet, hair ties, shower caps, and barrier cream, which is more than the norm where I usually tan. She also told me about after tan care, including mentioning that Dove products take all Versa sprays off, which I never knew. TL;DR: don't expect to use your student discount, tan is ok, customer service is mixed. read more

Never in my life have I had such a horrific spray before. The machine looked as if it were 25 years old, and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in that long either. As soon as the spray began I could tell this was a mistake as two of the nozzles were clearly broken. I woke up ORANGE and beyond blotchy. Please please please avoid at all costs. read more

So i spent 8 minutes in the high bed which was the oldest bed I have ever been in. The lights need to be replaced immediately, and I am naturally an olive person and there was a 0 difference. Glow has been in Georgetown for years and is owned and operated by an incredibly professional and talented woman who has been in the business for decades. She uses the best products and gives a beautiful spray tan. Myself and 3 daughters all love Glow Tanning! The salon is on the second floor and is a small space but with full restroom for changing and washing after tans and a wait area outside spa rooms for 5 people. Its quaint, she does need to manage space so customers getting treatment have her full attention and care. We have never experienced rudeness in the salon and highly recommend! read more

The worst spray tan I have ever received. I waited an hour and paid for the dark versa machine tan and it simply never showed up. I woke up with random brown splotches on my hands and different areas but no tan I was just as pale as when I walked in - I was livid. there were no wipes in the room, no napkins, the single machine option there was ancient and looked as if it had never been cleaned. rude staff and awful product. should honestly be shut down its the WORST. I have been here about three times and two of my visits were wonderful and the more recent one was OK. I have had three different technicians and the first two were great. The owner did my airbrush tan once and I thought she was wonderful. Each time I was happy with the airbrush tan, but the third time I had it done the technician didn't really give any instructions and just walked in the room and started spraying. She might have done this because she thought I was familiar with the process, but it had been about a year since I had it done. Even with the most recent visit though, I would definitely go back. I used to go here like 4 years ago for spray tans and they always came through really well. It was $15 each time and lasted about a week, great color and minimal streaking, plus the 8th visit is free. I recently went for UV tanning and was equally satisfied with the results. The owner is at the front desk a lot and she is very friendly as well as knowledgeable. All of the girls that work there have always been very sweet to me. They have the VersaSpa spray tan machine. Prices are expensive, I think it's around $37 for a spray tan BUT if your a student (bring your ID) it's reduced to about $35 BUT GET THIS if you come on a Thursday it is ONLY $15! I had heard this place was the best at airbrush tanning in the DC metro, so I decided to hit them up before a Mexico vacation. The salon is small, but very clean with a bright atmosphere. The technician was very nice, professional, and made me feel really comfortable. She also did a great job with the spraying application. Sure, it's pricey -- $65 an application, but seeing your skin change to such a beautiful color within moments -- I can see how people love it and get addicted to it. I tried to visit on Sunday, for which their hours are listed as 2 -- 6 p.m. I waited until 2:20 p.m. in hopes whoever was scheduled to open was running late due to weather, but no one ever showed up. There was nothing posted online (nor on the door of the salon) stating they were going to be closed. Very VERY rude staff. Was aggressively and condescendingly yelled at as I was walking up the stairs to "not dare come in" and then the door was shut and locked so I could not come in. This was 30-40 minutes before they closed. I understand that Glow Tanning is busy and that is was getting late however there is a way to treat your paying customers with some amount of decency and respect. Why would you ever pay twice as much for a spray tan? Answer: because you have been going to the same place for a year and feel you have a relationship with the business. Sadly, this place doesn't seem to share the same sentiment..I was there about an an hour and a half ago for a spray tan, and as I was about to leave the salon the heavens opened up in a deluge, so I popped into the yogurt store at the foot of the stairs to wait it out. 45 mins later it was still pouring and the gutters were overflowing onto the sidewalk, so I went back upstairs to see if I could come back in the next am for a redo. The receptionist called the owner, and after a lengthy conversation reported that I should either get a cab or wait til it stopped raining. After just having spent 40 dollars, I was EXTREMELY disappointed. The receptionist told me I could call the owner in the am and they would see what they could do, but they could not be held responsible for the weather. Home now, after taking a cab and still getting drenched head to toe sprinting to the curb, I had to rinse everything off so I wouldn't look like a dalmatian tomorrow. My advice, check out Polished down the street, same tan exactly but a whopping half the price. So even if you do get stuck in a jam you will only be out 20 dollars, not 40. I found Glow Tanning Salon online and was interested in buying a large tanning package because it was close to my home. When I went into the salon the sales representative told me the price had increased compared to what was online because of a New Year's price change. I left my number for the manager asking if she would honor the price that I had seen online. The manager gave me a call a few days later and told me that the price went up because of a 15.75 tax rate. This tax does not match up to the price that I was told and when I had asked her about explaining why the price changes did not match, she became very irritated and rude. She told me that's what the prices were and that's what I can pay and hung up on me. I will not be choosing to patron a salon that has no interest in valuing the customer or giving good quality customer service. I have worked in the customer serve industry in the past and and would have never treated a customer the way that I was treated on the phone by the manager - especially when one was simply trying to understand the prices in hopes to commit to the salon. read more

Stay away from this place! I am not sure how it is still legally open. It is run down and unsanitary (floors were extremely filthy, and things were just laying around). I paid over $17 for the high end tanning which the lady put me in for 9 minutes. As I walked into the room, the lock fell out of the door! She assured me that no one will enter, so I was not too worried about it. Meanwhile, the countdown was already running, so by the time I got into the tanning bed, I had less than 7 minutes on the clock. The bed was super old and outdated. No fan, and a free standing fan that is provided for this issue was of course also not working. When I got out I mentioned to the lady that I was tanning for less than 7 minutes, and that I would like to get refunded for the two minutes that I lost since they do charge by the minute (how odd!). Of course there are no refunds, and I was told that I should have informed her I needed more time. I was a first time (and of course last) customer; how was I supposed to know that? How was I supposed to predict that I will lose a few minutes on a broken door? Thanks Glow! read more

I recently just moved to the area and back at home ( New York) I used to go tanning all of the time. So when I got here, I was looking for a tanning salon and when I searched on my phone, Glow was the first salon that popped up. I went there after work around 6 p.m. last Wednesday. The girl working at the time, was so sweet and so helpful. I explained my situation to her about being new to the area. She was very friendly and asked me if I was a student, due to their student pricing (which was a great deal). They have two u.v. beds, a VersaSpa spray booth ( which they didn't have at my salon in NY) and custom airbrushing. I decided to purchase the week package for their strong bed which was only $33. The sweet girl then explained to me about their deal. If I tanned in the u.v. bed, I can pay $5 and get a face only tan in the VersaSpa or pay $10 and get my legs spray tanned in the VersaSpa. So after I got out of the booth I got a face tan in the VersaSpa. It was a little bit late, but after I was finished, she said she forgot to tell me their new deal which is "Spray Tan Thursdays" EVERY Thursdays in the VersaSpa for only $15!! How much cheaper can you get for a SprayTan booth? And if I brought a friend who has never been in Glow, we both get $10 off, so we would end up paying $5 for a VersaSpa Tan. I came the next day (Thursday) with my coworker and we both got spray tans for only $5 and it turned out amazing. I would recommend Glow to anyone looking for a great tan ! read more
