I was looking for a more convenient place to get my hair done, and a friend recommended this salon to me. Her hair looked great, so I decided to give it a go and booked an appointment with the same person. I was skeptical that enough time had been allotted for my appointment, so I called to ask if I needed to come earlier or more time needed to be set aside, but they assured my my stylist was experienced and someone else could always dry my hair if needed (which was totally fine with me). The stylist and I had a conversation about what I wanted my hair to look like (really just a touch up, partial foil, not too cool) and then he got to work. They put me under the dryer while my hair processed, which no one had ever done before. I assume to speed things up? As predicted, my stylist ran out of time, so another stylist had to dry my hair. As she began drying the front pieces, I realized that my hair was not looking as I had hoped. It was WAY too cool-toned (platinum) for my skin tone, and there was a harsh line about a quarter in from my scalp. It was blended beautifully from side-to-side, with no stripiness whatsoever, but it looked like it had already grown out and I hadn't even left yet. The stylist who was drying my hair was extremely kind and understanding, and ended up putting a toner on it to help blend the roots. My hair ended up being darker than I would normally prefer (we swung from one end to the other!) but at least it didn't look terrible and would hopefully grow out okay. The manager was also very nice and understanding, and she (1) did not charge me for any of the extra services, (2) took a bit off my total, and (3) gave me several sample products. They did the best they could. I considered going back and seeing the stylist who attempted to fix my hair, as she would have really understood what I was looking for and seemed competent, but I was embarrassed to run into my original stylist again, particularly as he was the owner of the salon. I ended up going somewhere else just six weeks later (which is WAY sooner than I normally go--I'm a 3-4x a year person, but it had grown out pretty bad already), and was much happier with their results. read more

I had a woman who didn't know how to do a blow dry, and she wasn't good at hair washing. My appointment was at 11; she finished at 11:16, and my hair still didn't look good. When my kids picked me up, they asked, "Did you get a blow dry?" Even they saw how poor it was. $60 for 16 minutes and a very poor job. I gave a tip and now regret it. My son took me to a salon near him and I got a nice blow dry, I do not recommend this aweful salon. It needs cleaning as well. read more

As a trans person, I get very anxious when it comes to anything that's gender affirming and that includes things as superficial as getting my hair done and having it look how I pictured it. I've been coming to this salon for a while now and I have to say I always feel taken care of. I've come to trust Dean at this salon and now I don't want anyone else touching my hair. He's done multiple different cuts at various lengths and most recently he has colored my hair (I used to be a very dark brunette and now I'm like a honey blonde). It's now gotten to the point where I trust his judgment every time I visit and, if he has a suggestion, I tell him to go for it. It's worth noting that this salon is incredibly LGBTQ+ friendly and I've noticed over multiple visits that the staff works tirelessly to make people feel welcome here. If that's something that's important to you, then this is a really good option. I will say the time and care does mean you're paying for quality, so if you're looking for a $10 haircut, maybe somewhere else is the move for you. read more

I went to Caitlin, and she was very attentive and thorough. She asked me questions about my skin routine, provided suggestions for care and maintenance, and walked me through each of the phases of my hour long experience. Such a great experience! I came here for both a massage and a new women's haircut through ClassPass. I was having some issues with scheduling at first, but I gave them a call and the manager was super accommodating to help me get my appointment set up. Their location is extremely central, located right off of Logan Circle. Parking can be a bit tricky, but expect to pay to park at a lot or with metered parking. My massage was AMAZING! It was professional, relaxing, and long (60 minutes). Kassandra applied just the right amount of pressure and it did not hurt. She checked in with me throughout to make sure I was ok. She covered everything during the full body massage (hands, feet, shoulder, neck, arms, legs, back). The room had dim lighting with soothing music. My new women's haircut was also phenomenal. Brandon H was really friendly and communicative about my haircut. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and we went for it. I received a dry cut, then wash, and blowout with styling. I'm returning home from my second visit here, relaxed and rejuvenated. KaSandra is an excellent massage therapist, especially for my neck and shoulders. I just tried a facial for the first time with Folami, who was kind enough to answer my questions and guide me gently through the process. I used their convenient Venmo QR codes to tip instead of having to bring cash. I always make sure to arrive 10 minutes before my appointment and enjoy relaxing in their lounge with water or tea. Perhaps other customers were late or had other issues going on in their life, but I've never had anything but pleasant, friendly encounters with the front desk staff, and making an appointment by phone or their online form is very simple. I just had the worst haircut experience of my life with James. My first indication that I should've stopped the appointment was when he started cutting my wet hair without towel drying or giving me an apron. I asked for him to give me an apron and he said "just let me finish this" and kept cutting, getting pieces of wet hair in my dress. Then he ignored me when I asked him to stop cutting TWICE and said "well you wanted layers." Even if a client does ask for layers, if they tell you they are good stopping where it is, then STOP, don't dismiss and ignore them. It's a customer service basic. The "layers" are an absolute mess. He cut straight across with scissors, literally in blunt layers like you've mowed grass at different lengths. I've never seen a professional haircut like it. I now have a choppy haircut that I have to grow out and had a terrible experience at a salon I really liked. Normally, I refrain from doing reviews about service related incidents because I feel awkward with confrontation. However, this time the pain wins out. I went for a simple eyebrow wax, something I do often, at Aveda for the first time. The result is the attached photo. Both of the areas under my eyebrows had wax burns AND skin ripped off. Not only will this leave a scar, but it will make it hard for me the next time I want to get my eyebrows done! I have been going to Logan14 for everything - massages, haircuts, medical spa services and seldom have had any complaints. Only good things about the service and the staff, including the front desk. Today was however different. I had a front desk employee be very aggressive and patronizing towards me because I wasn't "prepared" enough for the appointment and how that was my "fault" for not getting the most of the laser- spa session booked. I've never had an experience before where I was made to feel at fault for not having my skin prepared properly for a treatment, and made to feel like I was "doing something wrong on purpose" that too so aggressively. I suppose the employee was having a bad day, but it did catch me off guard when I was simply trying to have a conversation, and I left pretty unsettled and frustrated. I hope this was a stray incident. That aside, I do appreciate the technicians and estheticians and all the effort they put in, and the massage / spa rooms are clean and well maintained. read more

I've been coming to Logan 14 semi-regularly for massages, facials, and general fixing up. I appreciate that the staff are knowledgeable about the products they are using and that they're able to make recommendations about what may work best for you. I came in the other day for a facial because the cold weather has wreeeecked my skin, and Folami was able to give me tips on which treatment would help the most. Ben used to be my go-to masseuse but has since moved on from Logan 14, but I have always had very good massages here. The therapists are sure to ask about pressure preferences and areas of trouble, which is more than I can say about some other massage places in DC. Side note: I love the Aveda tea! It's licorice tea (with other things in it...it doesn't taste like licorice, which I mean in the best way possible) and I have even bought some to take home before. Lastly, they have some good products that can work well for people of varying skin types, including people of color. I appreciate that they use their own product line and that essential oils basically permeate the whole establishment. I made an appointment earlier in the week via ClassPass. The salon reached out to see if they can change my time via email. I called the salon to confirm the new time and shared details of what I am looking for and the receptionist said it was not a problem and adjusted on their end. I arrived on time for the appointment and was completely dismissed because the stylist doesn't have enough time to finish my cut, when I confirmed my hair type in advance. There was no offer of rescheduling just that they would refund my credits. Last time I was here for a cut, someone left crying because they messed up her color and the hair stylist completely dismissed her feedback. I took off from work to make this appointment, and surely they would have charged me if I had simply no-showed the appointment. The lack of respect for their clients' time is just astounding. LOVE.LOVE.LOVE. THIS PLACE. I have a very long history of not trusting hair places in DC...and I have finally found a place that I feel comfortable going to! I was referred by two friends who get their hair done here and had followed Joshua Lane on Instagram (@joshuaalanee). The Instagram has many pics of people's hair that he has done, so I knew that what he does is amazing. I have to say, I have never gotten my hair cut by someone who is so knowledgeable. He took MUCH more time understanding exactly what I wanted than any other person ever has, and explained everything he was doing from start to finish. Even walked me through my own natural hair color and type. I could not have been more impressed. You can really tell how much he enjoys doing hair. I found this salon after trying several local places for a good men's cut. It was also highly recommended by a friend. I think for a haircut in DC, the prices are reasonable (slightly on the high end). But you get what you pay for, amiright? $50 for a full men's cut with shampoo and warm towel face massage. $30 for a side cleanup if you don't need anything taken off the top. I've only seen Roel Ruiz, but I've LOVED him for the past year and a half now. He is an incredible stylist and also has his barber's license. So he can handle a sick fade, super clean-cut look, or on trend style - whatever you need. Not to mention you will look and feel like a million bucks when you leave his chair. This is an Aveda salon, so expect it to smell incredible and have a huge selection of Aveda product. They also offer services such as massages, mani/pedi, etc. There is a comfy lounge downstairs so you can relax for a bit if you arrive early. They also serve cucumber water and hot tea. With literally no time to find a stylist in my area to correct it, I had to pray there would be someone to help me camouflage the disaster when I arrived to Washginton, DC for a black-tie gala. Fortunately, I found a gifted stylist named Josh at Logan 14 Aveda Salon & Spa in DC who was able to create a beautiful updo style IN 25 MINUTES which allowed me to return to my hotel and get ready with more than enough time to make it to the pre-gala VIP reception. It's been 4 years since I first reviewed Gabi and I wanted to update my review to share that she's still just as a great. After 7 years in DC (and 4 going to Gabi) I'm moving away and so sad I can't take her with me. Gabi has taken me from light to dark and back again. She's cut my hair short and helped me with long layers. She is so reasonable and always helps me talk through maintenance, upkeep, and what a certain style will really take. She's also just a kind person in general--the sort of person you _want_ to be around! I'll miss Gabi so much and highly recommend booking with her if you are looking for a new stylists. Honestly worst experience. Ever. I had the option to come back to get it 'fixed' but who would honestly feel comfortable with how it was done the first time. I had to cut it again, another 3 inches removed just to even out the weird mullet layers. I had long hair. Blunt cut. Asked for long sexy layers. Looked for a long time for someone. Researched. He was recommended. Mentioned he cut for 15 years. I know he trains and teaches. So I assumed I'm good. He even had someone shadow him. It was odd that part of my hair wasn't cut. That I wasn't offered a mirror to see the back. That all of a sudden I noticed 5 inches were removed. That I paid 125$. The reason it looked off-I was told by him, was the way he parted my hair when he cut it. It was parted in the middle. I was robbed. Not only of money but inches. That I took years to grow out. I'm just blessed to have found someone to fix it and even she was incredibly perplexed as to the thought process. And dumbfounded that I paid for it and wasn't offered a refund. Sat on whether I should mention anything but the experience was beyond messed up. Don't care if it was offered to be fixed. Be in my shoes. You just got hacked. Terribly. I removed my original review because this business has threatened personal retaliation. The Manager, Courtney, left a voicemail asking me what they could do to get me to remove my feedback this afternoon. However, I was not able to not immediately return her phone call (i.e. my grandfather passed away). Not more than a few hours later did I receive text photos of my personal business website and my physical work address asking me "how would your clients feel if.." and calling me a "LIAR" to my mobile phone. They cyberstalked me and sought out my personal information to conduct voicemail and text harassment. Unprofessional and unethical. Despite this being a civil matter, I communicated this information to the police and will report to BBB. The police advised that I should NOT remove my feedback on this business as it will encourage them to continue this sort of unethical behavior towards other customers. That said, here are the FACTS of my experience: 1.) Manicure/Pedicures: Nail technician cut down the side of my toenails. Twice was the nail polish uneven. The Owner is the individual who I showed, and he said "It looks like the polish was thinned out, just have her do another layer." 2.) Discounted deals: There was no reminder of expiration on 3-for-1 deals. The Owner and Manager stated they could not make exception or courtesy to allow services to be rendered one week later. They said the system would not allow them to, but really this wass a matter of customer service not technology. I lost out on a mani/pedi and a blowout because of the unwillingness to make the courtesy. 3.) Hair services: Speaking only to three stylists that I had. $90 for a very average haircut. Two blowouts by two different men. One curled my hair in the wrong direction, but the waves did not stay anyways. The other blowout was just plain awful. After requesting volume, the man straightened my hair like it was ironed to the point of heat damage. My previously long, thick hair air is dry and brittle now. He also gave me tight jeri curls with a skinny curling iron saying they would loosen. But they never did, and I looked like RosannaRosannaDana. *After this whole ordeal of receiving harassing texts from the Manager, she sent a text stating they would like to refund me for my unsatisfactory services and sorry for my loss. I will send an update to this review if they do actually do send a refund. read more

I decided early-August that I wanted to change my look. I went to Logan 14 and asked who was the best person to have cut my fine, naturally curly hair. Hands down everyone recommended Juan. I also found it also awesome that he is one of the TOP educators for Aveda and trains other stylists how to cut curly hair. I felt even more excited! I made my appointment and walked into the salon. The energy is always upbeat and so welcoming. I sat in Juan's chair. He did a full consultation to include my lifestyle as it relates to what style I wanted. ( ex: did I work out often, did I sweat in my head, etc) we talked about how I loved yoga and I often had to wash my hair several times a week because of it. Juan gave me solid tips for how to manage my hair when it sweat without re/washing it all the time. This was all prior to my shampoo! I was shampooed and came back to the magic that was about to happen. I let Juan cut it however he wanted that works for my curl pattern, my curls etc. He also talked to me at each step to explain what he was doing to ensure I was comfortable with his cut. He showed me the products he used and how to style my hair. I was amazed at how much I loved my curls with the proper education of caring for them. I walked out in less than two hours from shoulder length hair to this amazing cut your we in my pictures. I went back a month later for color and the same amazing service! When I showed up at my originally scheduled time, rather than problem solve, they blamed me for not picking up the phone. After experiencing too many awful salons, I learned to cut my own hair a few years ago. It was serviceable but not great as I always missed some parts on the back of my head. Now as I try to adult, my wife really wanted me to go somewhere and suggested Aveda. The place is a little intimidating, people are hustling and bustling and this place is larger than expected. But it's actually great with a decent price. The full cut for $50 is a little pricey but pretty close to the average in DC. I got only my sides cut for $30 or 35 I forget. Got my hair cut by Terry and he was fantastic. Hopefully this coronavirus doesn't shut Aveda too long. read more

This is my first Yelp review, promoted by the worst haircut of my entire life. I had long, thick hair that was in desperate need of a trim. It had been over a year since my last haircut due to COVID. I booked the service through ClassPass (the "regular" haircut). A few of my friends have used ClassPass for their haircuts in NYC, so I thought a trim wouldn't be such a big deal. I was wrong. I asked for 2-3 inches with face framing long layers. I walked away with an uneven blob (yes, chin length). The other hair stylist tried to fix it, but it wasn't fixable. I've been in tears for the last 2 weeks. I am beyond disappointed in the service -- if the store is using junior stylists for ClassPass then they should let people know. I get people need to learn, but not on my hair, without my knowledge. My haircut is so bad that I use pins to try to wear it up. I can't even try to get it fixed because it would just mean shorter. I still cannot believe that I walked in a store asking for a few inches off to walk away in tears. For anyone that is thinking about getting a haircut at this place, DO NOT. I want to start by saying that Josh, my stylist, was wonderful. Very communicative about how I wanted the cut to go, wore the mask properly-did a great job. My rating is a 3, however, because despite serving the gay community/being gay-owned? and being in a progressive city this salon still relies on gender for cut pricing. They were clunky about this twice on the phone as my lady voice didn't match the "Men's" haircut I was scheduled for. Writing this review as a warning for those coming to get their hair cut by Dezja. Make sure you are VERY clear on what you are looking for and double check that the two of you are on the same page. I was looking to have my ends cleaned up a bit, but not have my hairstyle be changed too much, we agreed to have the hair to be between my shoulder blades, but she ended up giving me a bob instead and tried to make it seem like that's what we had agreed on. One side is also longer than the other (I did not point this out as I was nervous about more hair being cut off). I think if we had better communication this would not have happened, so make sure she understands exactly what you're looking for. read more
