There are only a few bars in Saint Anthony so I didn't have too many options but I'm glad I stumbled upon this place! It's your typical dive bar with pool tables (50 cents a game), darts, and TVs for sports. Their wells are $3 which is always a great price and they also have happy hour from 5-7pm which is 50 cents off wells. My bartender Abby was also amazing! We had some great conversations and we realized we were both huge true crime fans and were talking about a particular active case local to Saint Anthony/Rexburg (Mommy Doomsday anyone?). The locals at the bar were very welcoming to out-of-towners which is always a good feeling, and you have great conversations with random strangers which make for the best memories. It's on the southern part of town on the same corner as The Bottle Shop at E 6th South and South Bridge Street. Inside they have the typical dive bar things in Idaho like pool tables and casino games. It's a smoking bar and a lot of people smoke openly here so if you don't like the smell of smoke chances are that you won't like it here. They have good prices for drinks including $3 wells, $8 pitchers, $2.50 cans, $2.75 bottles, and $7.50 pizzas per their fridge. This felt like an older person's crowd compared to another place that I frequented in Saint Anthony, but overall it was an okay place.

Our room was a suite, but really a small apartment that had a lovely kitchen with full size appliances. The front room had seating for at least 6 if you wanted a get together. Bathroom was very large and the tub was perfect for a soaking bath. Will stay here for our next adventure to Rexburg. And the price was right.

The bartender, who turned out to be one of the owners, Jan greeted us. She told us they did not serve food, but...if we wanted to call in an order to the restaurant across the street, 511 Main, they would give us a 10% discount AND deliver to us at the bar. Sweet! She provided us with a menu and we called in our order and had a couple of beers while we waited for our food to be delivered. Once the waitress from the restaurant showed up with our order, Jan offered to pay our bill in cash and she would just add it to our tab, simplifying the whole transaction for everyone involved. We GREATLY appreciated this since we were paying with a card. During our time in the Imperial we chatted with Jan and some of her other patrons as well as got to get to know her two adorable pups, Belle and Reo (as in Speedwagon). In my head it was a recipe for awkward, but in reality, it was the best decision I made on my trip. While visiting Yellowstone and staying at a local weekend rental, my friend and I decided to swing through Shotgun Bar on a Friday night. We expected live music, but were met with the quiet tone of the jukebox. Apparently, the live music happens during the summer and winter. However, that didn't matter. A couple locals sat at the bar and a friendly bartender immediately welcomed us. As a tourist, I wasn't sure whether to pretend to fit in or play it off and not bother the locals. It wasn't long before we were sniffed out. It is a small town of 250+ after all. What happened next would change the course of our journey. We ended up meeting some of the friendliest, funnest and funniest people of our lives. They embraced us and before we knew it, we were all buying each other drinks. I will warn you, the sake jelly shots we were encouraged to chug were a struggle, but the experience left us holding our bellies with laughter. One of the owners of the bar, Katie, really made the experience special. She told us stories of the locals, gave us Yellowstone tips and history, showed us around and invited us to her home. She introduced us to other locals and genuinely made the experience once in a lifetime. By the end of the weekend we didn't just have drinking buddies at a bar, we met kind-hearted, genuine and incredibly funny people that we now consider friends. On top of all that, the beer selection was superior. As we prepared to leave on the final night, the other owner, Jessica, gave her own bottle of bear spray to us so we wouldn't be mauled walking home at night (Uber isn't quite prevalent here). Luckily, we didn't need to use it. These people are the real deal, these people are genuine Americans. This experience made Yellowstone feel like a tiny morsel of awesome in the grand scheme of things. As they say, sometimes it's not about the destination, it's about the people you meet along the way. Definitely meet the people of Shotgun Bar.

To enter you pay a $5 coverage charge that includes the music out back. Parking is a bit of a meander as you can park along the highway or park between two bars, or briefly in front of the Tetonia Bar drink and karaoke sign!
