I was with Alliance Insurance Agency for 3 years. In the beginning, the experience was good. I was repeatedly told that the policy I had was the cheapest available based on my Hyundai, despite the fact that I'm in my mid-40s, have good credit, and have no accidents or tickets. I was also told the rate was low because the company does not insure anyone under 25--information that doesn't apply to me. Last month, I received my January renewal and was informed my monthly premium would increase by $102. That increase would have made my auto insurance payment higher than my car payment, which is unacceptable to me. When I contacted my broker and asked her to quote Progressive and a few other carriers, I also did my own research. I discovered that going directly through Progressive was significantly cheaper. In fact, the quote I received on my own was $1,649 less for the 6 month renewal than what I was being quoted through the broker. I understand that insurance agencies are businesses, but that level of difference is hard to justify. For that reason, I chose to move on. Paying an additional $102 per month--especially when far better options exist--was simply not something I was willing to accept. I recommend doing your own research as well to compare especially with the economy.

The explanation was that there are more expensive cars in this zip code, which would require expensive parts, in the event of an accident. On the driving app, it takes the data received to formulate a "discount." On the hard brakes, this would be done, in order to prevent an accident from happening. It's unfortunate that as the Driver, this isn't taken into account. On the 215 Freeway, people drive either too fast or too slow, there is no "in between". I am going to drive defensively. I am going to drive in order to prevent an accident; that is first and foremost. Yes, I am saying that there are flaws to this system.
