I read many reviews on Yelp, and after evaluating many contractors, I decided to use Yelp's project tool to contact Clark Innovative. When you do this, you get responses from many other companies too. Many reached out before Chris from Clark did. I ended up making an appointment with one of them to have them take a look at it. This person began has contract biz recently... and he did not seem confident. The way he was looking at it, he was reacting in a way that seemed like it's a bit of a pain in the you-know-what job and said it was going to cost a lot. He was a nice guy, but he did not instill confidence in me that he knew what he was doing. (He never even sent me a bid) After that, I wondered if I should reach out to these other companies that responded, but my intuition was telling me to wait a bit longer. Clark did eventually respond with apologies, and made an appointment to come look. They looked at it and just the way he was acting, I could tell this person knew what they were doing, and they came up with a solution to just replace the rotted portion, saving us half the cost! (So yeah, I believe the innovative part of their name!) It was all incredibly reasonable. Dates were pushed back etc, because of rain and other things, but I honestly didn't mind it. Chris tried to be a good communicator, and even when he wasn't, I could contact him and he'd respond. He was just busy. Sometimes, you can just tell with people who is being genuine. Who wants to simply do a good job for you, without gouging you or ripping you off. We need more of these people in the world right now. I'm glad I listened to my intuition, and waited for the right company to do the job. And I will definitely use them again for future work. It's really nice to have a good contractor in our back pocket.

When I asked for a breakdown (labor/materials, etc) on the estimate sent, Gill Greg told me he does not breakdown his invoices. When I added a few projects in the backyard, the price he was giving me seemed really high, i.e. spray weeds. It took 15 minutes to spray. Was charged $200. When I asked what he charges per hour he said $100/hr for him. I expected that. He is an experienced, skilled owner. But....he charges $100/hr for each worker. Do you think he pays his workers top wages?......I asked Gill Greg. No response. My project, a typical front neighborhood yard, consisted of digging holes for plants, planting and laying down 13 yards of bark. This I would classify as unskilled labor. I had 3 people working on my project the first day and 4 people the second day. First day labor totaled $2,400. Second day labor totaled $3,200. Be aware if your contractor tells you he does not breakdown his invoices. To me it is a RED flag now. Having dealt with many contractors that intentionally overcharged me, I tried to get another estimate. Manzanita Landscape came out and looked at the job and then nothing. Six weeks later they call to see if I am still interested in getting the project done. I really feel for all of us trying to get anything done with people who have honesty and integrity. Ugh!

In addition, it had moments of confusion in coordinating the conceptual artist's concerns, the school's needs, and the realities of stonework. ... not to mention scheduling!
