I wanted to sell some gold jewelry. I went to a local jeweler first. The owner checked and weighed…read moremy items at around 98 grams, then offered what he claimed was 72% of gold spot price. I thought his price a little low. I spoke with a chain pawn shop, but he only pays 1/2 spot price. Next I went to Coquille Coins. Gerald checked out my items and weighed them at 106.13 grams and offered 75% of spot. Big difference. He also purchased some coins and sterling silver, even though the refineries aren't buying right now. Gerald informed me that smelters charge a percentage to refine the shops gold. Stores have overhead (rent, lights, insurances etc.) He has to be licensed (fees). Something most people don't know, buyers have to hold all items they buy for 30 days, in case items are stolen. I understand why gold buyers need to make roughly 25% profit. He is taking a chance that gold prices crash (like crypto is today) before he can sell the gold he bought from me.
