Newark offers the international baccalaureate (IB) degree. It is a mysterious degree that the…read moreschool brags about that they use to claim they are a high level academic achieving degree. There are many problems with the IB program. The easiest problem to demonstrate is that IB classes and exams can only be taken in only in the junior and senior year. There are many amazingly academic students that must wait until junior year to take the IB exam. If you look internet you will see many smart student question this policy. Are all student homogeneous? Do all student suddenly become smart at the same time? The school had tried to get rid of all AP exams but have failed in many areas. The most notable is math. There are many kids taking AP calculus in middle school and quite a few finish both AP calculus exams in middle school. The school could not also get rid of AP history. AP history is done in the sophomore year. After further review the science depart felt that AP Physic C was more rigorous than IB Physic HL. There were problems with the Econ SL class that the econ teacher created a Econ honor class to replace it. Unfortunately all other AP classes have been banished from newark. At one time classes were designated as hybrids AP/IB classes. This allows many of its students to achieve AP national scholar status which requires the a student to pass for AP exams with a score of 4 or above. IB is also very expensive compared to AP for the school. The school tuition is outrageously expensive. IB program is contributing to this outrageous high tuition.

I spoke to the guy who sets up appointments for the Nutley location. I had a conversation about my 18 yr old child needing tutoring to pass the HiSet test. I specifically explained how they have special needs, and really need one on one tutoring with someone who can teach them the math needed to pass the test. I was assured they could definitely provide this. So I made the appointment. My child shows up on time and no one knew why they were there. After straightening that out, payment was discussed. We only paid for one session. During this time my child mentioned how they have special needs, but no one ask what their needs were. If they did, they could have concluded that Sylvan Learning center is not going to accommodate them, this way I could have saved the $65 I wasted that day. It was crowded and noisy in the center. They got zero individual attention. They were put into a group of other students and given a tablet to work on. A child next to them had her tablet turned up on high, and it was very distracting. Very disappointed, and I feel like we were lead on to believe they understood this student's needs. But on the day of the appointment, the only subject discussed in detail was payment plans.

My son has attended Sylvan of Nutley for a year and a half. We enrolled him after learning his…read morereading level was below grade level. After correctly assessing him, the patient tutors at Sylvan worked with him for two hours a week for six months and caught him up to speed! He doesn't complain about going here. I wrote this review specifically to go against Allan, Menan, and Celito. There are many topics to…read morecover including sexual abuse, toxic environment, kids cheating their way with money, faculty destroying student self worth, and it just being an overall terrible school. First I would like to cover sexual abuse. Going to Allan's example of sexual assault with Anthony du Bourg, he stated that Anthony was a teacher in the 60s and walked "through the locker room when we were undressed." In other words Mr. Anthony walked through the locker room in the 60s when Allan was changing. That means if Allan in 2017 would be pretty old. Not only this, but all of the other examples given by other reviews happened every 20 years and have no solid evidence. These reviews also state that there are better schools in the area, Newark Academy, Delbarton, Kent Place, and so much more have terrible incidents that are far worse than Pingry's. These claims have a high chance of not being true and there is no school in the world that has no creepos lingering. Considering that there are only 3 alleged assaulters for a school history of almost 200 years is really amazing. Now I would like to talk about the supposed toxic environment. Anywhere you go in life there will always be toxic people. I believe that Menan is just a parent who had a kid hang around the wrong crowd. The Pingry School also has amazing staff and faculty that can support anyone at anytime. Compared to other private schools and public schools Pingry is nowhere near as toxic. According to Allan people were racist and really toxic, the 1960s was a really long time ago and the world was really different. I understand that numerous students agree with me and love their school. For kids cheating their way with money, this is completely untrue. I have been at Pingry for a very long time and I can't tell you how many kids have been expelled for vaping, doing drugs, sexual assault, racism, and more vile actions. Pingry is extremely strict with this and the honor code is not used as a weapon, but more as a guideline. There are kids that got expelled immediately with billionaires for parents and have not been on school grounds since. Faculty destroying student self worth is the topic I disagree with the most. There are so many trusted adults in the school and for the reviews saying that they suck probably got failed and just trying to throw dirt. The teachers are very uplifting and help the students non-stop. Teachers also might favor students, but thats alright because whatever school you go to that might happen and it is not all the teachers at Pingry that do that. Pingry is an amazing school and If it was so terrible then why is it the third best school in NJ on Niche? I am not sure what these clowns are thinking putting these reviews, but is a Saturday night and this took like 20 minutes. Guaranteed all of these clowns are either Pingry rejects or got expelled. I also believe at least one of these reviews are a middle schooler thinking that they are funny, but in reality they just have nothing better to do. PS.
