We recently had our kitchen remodeled with Tomas as the project manager. He was easy to talk to and made sure to check in regularly, which helped when a few things didn't go as smoothly as planned. Some of the deliveries were delayed, and a few of the cabinets and drawers didn't fit perfectly at first, which was a bit frustrating, but Tomas stayed patient and came back to fix the issues. The crew worked hard and were polite, even when I kept changing my mind about small details like handles and lighting. Now that it's done, the kitchen feels so much brighter and more functional, and cooking in it has actually become enjoyable again. Choosing a contractor to redo both our primary bathroom and guest bathroom was daunting! My husband and I met with several contractors to gather a few quotes. When Sebastian came over from Golden Age Builders, we immediately felt like this was a match. GAB was the highest bid, but we felt like we were in the best hands already after our consultation. Sebastian was open to ideas we had, he made thoughtful suggestions already, was knowledgeable about the industry/work to be done, seemed motivated by the project and gave my dog attention :) v important. He followed up when he said he would. Once hired, Stella from the office kept on top of payment gathering, etc during the whole duration of the project. Fast forward ~5 months, we have 2 beautiful new bathrooms! I was never going to write this review but after 2 years we're still uncovering problems Golden Age Builders put upon my wife and I. We hired GAB in the summer of 2020 to do some home remodeling (specifically: building a fence, installing/creating a new window that wasn't there, building a roof deck, installing a new entry doorway). After about 4 months of work and nearly $100k spent, they "finished", however, my wife and I were severely disappointed (an understatement) in the work. As shown in the attached photos, they completely destroyed our outdoor space (I mean any all plant life decimated. You can see before and after in the photos), left numerous projects uncompleted (ceiling fans detached, drywall unfinished, filth everywhere), not to mention the new window was and still is a mess. For comparison in the photos, there is a photo where an existing window is on the left and one they installed on the right. Also, it took them 3 visits AFTER our work was completed to fix the window (as it had been consistently leaking whenever it rained) only to discover they had installed the wrong type of window to begin with. So on the 4th time around they finally installed the correct window only to now rediscover the window still leaks (see attached). I've hired other contractors since, and gotta say, I've never had any trouble compared to what we dealt with with Golden Age Builders. This is a very real review, I have real in hand paperwork & security camera images of the worker who came over to prove it. These guys screwed me up from the beginning written contract. I saw the issues right away. Besides being very over expensive, (read other reviews here to confirm that). They sub-contract to others they know and if you get an inexperienced one like I did and you do not know any better, watch out. Do double due diligence! Felt I had to warn others to get several other written bids to cross check. If the company is so perfect then they can prove it to the person paying. There is no discrepancy in that. read more

We used Thomas and his crew a little before Covid 19 hit (back in January 2020) to remodel our 1970's old kitchen. During the whole kitchen remodeling Thomas' and his men had made it Super Easy for my husband and I --from designing the kitchen, different options of the kitchen cabinets, to different colors of the countertops. They even brought sample kitchen materials for us to see at our house to choose-- This really helped us save some time driving around to different places checking out materials. I highly recommend Golden Age Builders (GA). We recently hired GA to demolish and convert our lower crawlspace/storage space to a city permitted Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU). The project consisted of adding a kitchen, bathroom, windows, flooring etc. I gathered nearly 10 bids from different contractors. GA was neither the most expensive nor the least. They stayed true to their estimate. Their design team suggested great ideas that could enhance our space. The most impactful to mention would be a change to the bathroom floor plan which utilized the entire space much better. GA said they could complete the project within 4 - 6 months. They were finished in 5 months. They worked well with Los Angeles City Plan Checkers and Inspectors. Each inspection passed on the first attempt. During one inspection, the LA city inspector even pointed out our plumbing to an inspector trainee as 'the right way to do it' which he said many contractors do not do. I was proud at that moment for my choice to go with GA. As first-time homeowners we were new to many processes. The GA team took time to explain any and all processes. There were times when my messages were blunt. They never responded with frustration. But rather took time to explain the options and allowed us to make the decisions on our own. In the beginning, Golden Age pitched their company as a family operation that treats their customers likewise. They had several opportunities to prove this notion. At each, they went above and beyond. For example, late one evening, our toilet backed up. It turned out to be unrelated to the construction being done. Still GA sent a plumber immediately at 8:00 PM. The plumber literally ran up and down a steep hill dozens of times to fix the issue that same night. Their workers were kind to my family, even making sure to close doors behind them to keep our dog in the yard. Which is a tedious thing to do when lugging materials and tools in and out all day. After 5 months you get to know some crew. I can say humorously that after months of construction beneath my feet I couldn't wait for the work to stop. But I have missed the team members since they're gone. I think that indicates that they made good on the family promise. We are now enjoying our permitted space more each day. I always expect contractors to end up costing more than the estimate (all the hidden "surprises" that pop up once they get started), and I always expect the time they say it'll take to be double their estimate - that's the experience I've always had. But with Golden Age Builders, they were right on time and didn't cost a penny more than what they estimated. They were amazing! We needed our upstairs deck, which is fairly large, to be restored and repainted, along with the staircase that leads up to it, and my sister had just hired Golden Age for the first time herself to remodel her kitchen, bathroom, and living room (she found them on Yelp!). She had a wonderful experience with them, so I gave them a try. I liked them as soon as I met them. After replacing the original garage door (a once piece flip up), we realized that he new garage door would not completely close(see attached pictures). This was a major concern because it was starting to create a Disney-like atmosphere with random critters in our garage. Overall, I am really pleased with how quickly the work was completed and along with the good lines of communication. Cons: Usually, contractors come across disgruntled home owners that will leave a bad review for an unreasonable expectation. We worked with Golden Age Builders on our ADU and kitchen remodel. TLDR: Hire Golden Age. They are great communicators, professional, and ethical. Issues that inevitably come up during a big renovation will be handled with grace and efficiency. Have already recommended and will personally use again. BEFORE calling Golden Age Builders, I had a horrible experience with a contractor lying, not showing up, and dragging out a project. What's worse is that whomever I vented to seemed to nod as if that's just the way contractors are. My point is that I was paranoid and super wary. When my new place needed a top to bottom renovation, I got several bids. Golden Age was in the middle, but I liked that Tomas or someone on his team was easy to reach. In the end, everyone's communication was clear and calm, which was great whenever there was a speed bump or something that needed to be discussed. What I did NOT expect was how valuable Danielle, our designer, would be. She was assigned to us and began meeting with us soon after we signed on. My thought was that she might be somewhat useful, but I had no idea how much easier she ultimately, made our lives. She was instrumental in helping choose colors, themes, materials, appliances, carpet, and on and on and on. Each one of these items could have taken me forever (there are many many many shades of every color, for instance), but once Danielle understood our taste and our vision, she offered assertive recommendations that ultimately, saved us hours, and most importantly, turned out beautifully. She insisted on being present during all the finishes (flooring install, tile install, painting, appliance install, etc.) so that she could personally make sure that all the details were just so. Between Tomas (contractor), Danielle (designer), and the different teams of workers that graced our home, I can confidently recommend Golden Age. In fact, I already have. We're still living out of boxes, but I tried to clear some spaces out and take some pictures to give you an idea of how our place turned out. We needed a new house built on a century old foundation. Golden Age Builders did an amazing job from start to finish.
