Todd Golden Fried Chicken is definitely a hidden gem! We stopped in for a late lunch and was greeted by the person working at the register. Customer service was A+ southern hospitality. I went with the 2-piece dark chicken with 2 sides (Mac-n-Cheese + Mash Potatoes Gravy). Not to mention, a sweet tea! The sweet tea was delicious! The chicken was crispy! I wished I would've went for another piece. I recommend asking for hot sauce! That will take your chicken to the next level. The mac-n-cheese was amazing! The MVP had to be the mash potatoes. The gravy was boss! Do not get it without it. I took a bite of my sister's collard greens and it was one of the best I've had! I look forward to stopping by here again when I'm in town. Mom and pop type place; nothing fancy here. Casual and relaxed with friendly staff. This was my first visit. I ordered a 2pc fried chicken meal and my boyfriend opted for a 5pc chicken tender meal. First off, chicken breasts are so easily overdone. Not here. The breading is light and crispy with great flavor. Rather than drowning their chicken in an obscene amount of breading, as most places do, theirs is done with enough breading to enjoy without overrunning the chicken itself. The best part of their chicken is how well the chicken is cooked. All the way to the bone the breast was juicy, moist and tender. Not a bit of questionable pink, nor a dry bit throughout. Perfectly done in my book. The tenders are the same. Juicy and lightly covered in their crisp breading. Fried, but not greasy. We both got sides of their Mac and cheese which is super creamy and flavorful. No salting or peppering needed; great just as it is. My boyfriend opted for the corn nuggets as his second side, something I've never eaten before, and they were incredibly tasty! They're creamy and moist...again, fried, but not a dry bit in any of them. They sort of melt in your mouth. Their meals also come with a biscuit, which was dense but still fluffy and buttery without being greasy. For my second side I tried their potato salad. The potatoes were tender and the overall flavor was decent, but the mustard content was too overbearing for me so I chose not to finish. As for their bacon cheddar wedges...wow. They absolutely do not scrimp on the cheese or the bacon (check out the photo). They're smothered! Which is great. The prices are great, the portions are plentiful and the food is overall just really friggin good. It's been over two years since we've eaten Todd's golden fried, that being said, we decided to try it again. This time we were not disappointed, the fish was hot and fresh, the chicken livers were very flavorful and the batter on it was excellent. since Covid they really have not updated the place very much, still looks the same, they put new signage up to show you what they serve, that being said, there is an up charge on their meals if you use a credit or debit card, which does not show anywhere on the boards or on the counter, the only reason I noticed was my price on my receipt was not the same as they showed on their boards, we will try them again , And see if the quality of food stays the same read more

The food was alright, I had catfish because they didn't have flounder or any other fish but that. The catfish was kind of tasteless and not very seasoned. The fries were also not seasoned good but the Mac n cheese was very good. The service was pretty good but you have to self serve drinks which I thought was weird. The 'worker' must not have liked my bringing it up, since that was her 'FIRST' mistake. The price on the receipt was different than the price on the board. When I questioned that, the girl said. 'I don't make the prices' Used to be, the customer was always right & appreciated. A sign on their counter says. "Please be patient, we are understaffed." My mom lives in Marion and she had always wanted to try this place, so we stopped by. The fries were limp and cold as well as my son's chicken tenders. My mom said her fish was okay, but her hush puppies were also cold. It seemed like it most of the food was already prepared? At least at Mc Donald's they use a heat lamp. The first time I tried Todd's Chicken was on a whim when I came for funeral and every since I've been craving for Todd's fried chicken. I have not found any other fried chicken in comparison. It's in a small town in NC but totally worth the travel. The place is nothing fancy, the service is fast and friendly. A 20 piece fried chicken dinner with 5 sides and 8 biscuits was only $45!! I do not like fried chicken. I love Todd's Golden Fried Chicken. Very unsuspecting place - the kind that blends in with the environment/boulevard. I ordered the one piece breast meal. My mouth could not believe how happy it was. Thin and crunchy on the outside - juicy, tender and flavorful inside. That piece of white meat never stood a chance. The chicken was definitely 5 stars. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had, maybe even the best (as I search my memory banks and nothing comes to mind). The sides were just good/okay. The mashed potatoes with white gravy and pinto beans were 3 stars. When you ask for a recommendation, they say "everything is good" and quite frankly I believe them. Just off the van with 16 on board, all orders we taken immediately. After 10 minutes, our orders began coming out steaming hot. I ordered the flounder with slaw and a side of collards. After eating Three pieces of fish lightly fried to perfection with excellent tarter sauce, and wonderful slaw, I packed up my collards (already had a lid on them) and got back on the van. Paid $8 bucks + some change. Not a fancy place, but absolutely some of the best fried fish I've ever had. Had the collards for dinner (noon meal) next day, they were seasoned just right. The chicken was good, I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever had but it was good enough to come back. The potato wedges were really good. I didn't really care for the Mac n cheese. I liked the mashed potatoes but the gravy was like a peppered gravy like you would get on a gravy biscuit. I liked it just was better on a biscuit instead of over potatoes. The fried okra was good. The tea was good, not really sweet like I'm use too. I think next time we come, I'm going to stick with just chicken and potato wedges. I would defiantly recommend this place. I'm a self proclaimed foodie so don't think I'm knocking this place but it's not the best I've ever had like some of the other reviews that was posted. Easily the best chicken and fish place in McDowell County. The mashed potatoes and gravy is the best I have eaten at a restaurant. The green beans are classic southern cooked and excellent.
