I only just realised this was on here otherwise I would of reviewed before. I like many others would highly recommend Golden fry to anyone and have on MANY occasions. I used to live in the village and moved away well over 10 years ago. It is now a standing joke with my family and friends whenever I come down not to cook for me first tea time home as its Fish n chips (then a pasty the next day for lunch) its part of my Cornish fix as, after having lived all over the place nowhere quite compares. The standards they have set here are high and Im yet to find another decent chippy. There is no skin on the fish, don't know about u but it really puts me off. Im yet to after ALL this time find a bone as they fillet them so well. Never had anything other than yummy crunchy batter. Chips are always well cooked and tasty, not the slimy, limp under cooked ones you sometimes get elsewhere. The home made fishcakes are AMAZING if u fancy something other than fish n chips. I sound like I must be the size of a decent house but it is safe to say I rarely ever have fish & chips apart from when I am down in Cornwall getting them from here as they never measure up. The staff are all lovely always a friendly welcome and will help in anyway they can. For the comedy Value I will even add I had a spell in Treliske for over a week the food was so dreadful i asked a relative to pick me some up and bring it into the ward. The other 3 ladies all had fish & chips too and loved it the staff were all jealous :-) As someone has already said most Fri, Sat evenings there is a line out the door, such is the demand surely that speaks for itself. The quality of the food here used to be excellent. However, since the new owners took over the food has been awful. Last time we bought them there we swore that would be the last time, however tonight on the way home from work my partner popped in to pick up fish and chips for our family and visiting friends. Everyone was complaining about the chips, th were chewy and like scrag ends, tasted horrible and we felt like we had been ripped off. The exceptionally poor quality tonight cemented in our minds that from now on, even though we live in the village, we will buy our fish and chips elsewhere and never set foot in the Threemilestone chippy again. We have eaten at Golden Fry for about 10 years and know the staff by name same owners and Manager. We had tried others just because it was more convenient as we live in centre of Truro but there is no comparison and we now always make the trip. We had F and Cs about 2 weeks ago and they were absolutely delicious, fresh and crispy batter and beautiful fish, lovely chips no after taste like some places. Staff are really friendly even when busy with customers queued out the door, as they often are on Friday and Sats speaks for itself! Great little chippy! KJ read more

This chip shop is by far the best in the city, every week I buy food hear for my family, I have never in 6 years had bad service, the staff are always polite and friendly, the fish bar is good value for money and great quality food! I personally think there chips are the best, well salted and always hot and fresh as well as the fish, (which is of the finest quality) . Next time you fancy some Fish & Chips in the Truro area make sure you stop at the Golden fry fish bar in Threemilestone! Scott Tenorman read more

We have lived in the village for 32 years and the Fish and Chips have always been excellant, however, The food is not now enjoyable. The chips are terrible and as another reviewer has said look like burnt scrag ends, the fish has got a lot smaller and the price has gone up. It's a real shame that the once famous Fish & chip shop has gone down hill so badly that we will not go back. Now that there is a Chinese Takaway next door I'm afraid that people will vote with their feet and go into there instead. read more

I lived in and around Truro for many a year and have tried all the various places selling fish and chips and as yet never found anything that touches the quality of service and food served at the Golden Fry,I now live abroad but visit Cornwall every year and when there our first port of call is always Threemilestone chippy,you also need to try the curry sauce(superb) if anyone manages to get the recipe from them please post it for all too enjoy : ) read more

The fish here is exceptionally well cooked and the chips are always fried to perfection. As my Nan doesn't like batter the manager has mentioned he is happy to cook fish without batter, they're always happy to accommodate your request even if the shop's busy! Golden Fry is legendary in our office! We have fish and chips on a Golden Fri-day every week and the food and service is always excellent. The batter is crisp, the fish is cooked perfectly and the chips and grease-free and tasty, unlike the standard sludgy lump you get from most chippy's in Truro. read more
