You catch it at the Ferry Building on the wharf. Be careful , the signage is horrible. Very nice views of San Francisco, Sausalito, Angel island and Alcatraz. Very smooth ride which takes about 30 minutes.

This is probably the most confusing ferry situation I have ever witnessed in my life. I can't believe this even exists in America. I'm not even sure what America has to do with it but I have never seen anything like this and the people who work here are so intense because they realize it's a fucking mess. I watched groups of people form three lines and then two lines and then four lines because no one had any idea where to go or what to do. And this was despite the numerous employees who were standing there trying to offer assistance. But yelling at people that they could purchase their ferry tickets on the ship is not the way to run an operation. Especially since only some of the people could purchase said tickets. Hence, the ultimate confusion. Couple that with most of the people being foreign visitors and you've got yourself a crack show. We literally decided it was ridiculous and refused to give our money to the people. And while walking back to our car in the parking lot one of the employees came up behind us and tried to explain why he was being so adamant about not explaining to us why the ferry was landing in a certain area in San Francisco. Because he said the answer was "too long of an answer". What kind of answer is that???? There was no longer anyone even in line behind us. So he sort of apologized in the parking lot. But you could tell he didn't mean it and hated his job/life. Great times. Never going back. Will swim across the bay instead.

Departing from Larkspur Landing heading towards San Francisco.

As a tax paying Oakland resident, I'd rather stop paying taxes on this service and get rid of it.

If you are taking taking the ferry/bart from the city, spending a day near Lake Merritt, Old Oakland, City Center, Chinatown or Jack London Square, this free service allows you to roam up and down downtown length of Broadway fairly easily. There are a dozen or so stops-pretty much located by anything you'd want to go to. There are some flaws. The scheduled time of one bus every 15 minutes doesn't always happen. Most times you are looking at a 20-30 minute wait. It can be super packed, especially the stretch that runs by Chinatown, so it's highly likely you'll be standing or at least sharing a not very comfortable seat most of the way. Some of the drivers are super professional others not so much. Mostly however it's pretty awesome. For one it's free and allows you to easily roam all over downtown Oakland. This makes it easy to bounce down to Chinatown or swans market form the office buildings near lake merrit for lunch or dinner, or a spot of shopping. Handy for getting to jack london square or the amtrak station as well. Perfect for happy hour bar hops. Did I mention the free part? 'Cause that's the best thing evah.

Please be ready to board this bus with exact change or a loaded Clipper Card. This is my only advice when getting on a route like the 30X. This route may be busy, but the ride is well worth it. With this route also inching through rush hour traffic, it certainly will not be any faster. Unlike the regular 30, buses are always clean especially when it operates this route. I certainly admit to that because we all want a nice clean ride. I know what some of you are thinking of. Yes, this route is operated on 60' buses. So there is no need to feel worried about crowded buses. If you are looking for a faster way to get between Financial District and Marina District, 30X Marina Express is the solution. I do want to add how one reviewer brought up a very good point. It would be nice if this route had additional service to and from Marina/Financial Districts. Overall, I like this route for the fact of clean buses and polite passengers. Advantages: - last bus out of the financial district is 7pm** - this route uses 60' buses - once again, clean buses* *Just really loving this part. **Monday - Friday -- Part of this is because some people get off work a little after 6pm. -- People complained that 40' buses are not very accommodating. -- Yes, more seating and standing room available since this route is operating on 60' buses. Thank you MUNI for making these changes.

I'm talking about the Bonobos and JCrew models that overcrowd it. The dirty 30 is a Marina staple and goddamn icon. You haven't lived until you've shoved yourself into the bus at Laguna and apologetically 'smized' at that hottie next to you. At any given time you'll overhear girls planning their soul cycle/blue barn adventures that evening, men (or should I say Eskimo brothers?) rocking their Patagonia vests and AirPods, and at least 3 good boys. Also a hard bargain at $2.75 a pop (I'm looking at you Chariot loyalists). A 30x morning is a journey that makes you proud of having a clipper card balance of greater than $20. Welcome to the new age of muni - honestly still wondering why I haven't changed my league profile to say "30X" as the neighborhood.

I was told before that they've had major problems (i.e. not reading the card properly, getting de-magnetized, etc.). I also thought that I wouldn't be able to purchase the high-value tickets. However, I was convinced by Maria D. (http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=7EXWwja2wdSYiCqhR3cTqQ) to finally sign up. I haven't had any problems with it so "those" people were wrong. I find it very convient and it saves constantly buying tickets. It's great for the everyday commuter or even the occassional rider. Now that they have the parking feature, it's even more of time-saver. You don't need to remember your parking stall number, and you have a better chance of catching the train rather than waiting in line to pay $1 for parking during the morning rush. I've missed several trains because of that. The best part is that it auto-loads your card (similar to Fastrak) and you can still purchase the discounted high-value fares. Once it hit below $10, it loads $48 of BART value but only costs you $45.00. I am definitely happy with my card and much thanks to Maria D.! TIP: The parking feature is deducted SEPARATELY from your BART fare. Once parking hits below $10, it auto-loads $40. Also, there's a ONE-TIME fee of $5 for the card and $2 for the parking tag. Your intial costs will be: $45 - EZ Rider card $5 - card fee $40 - parking $2 - parking tag fee ------------------------------ $92.00 total

No, they don't strap a transponder to your forehead, they give you a card that is the size of a credit card, embedded with some kind of smartcard/microchip thingy. On every entry gate, there is a little round pad , that you swipe the card over when you walk through. When you sign up for the program (currently a pilot program) you give them your credit card number, and they preload $48. Every time you make a trip, it deducts the fare from your balance. Once your balance falls below $10, they automatically top off your card. I've been using this for a week now with great success. People must think I'm crazy, magically swiping my hand over the gate and it opens.... maybe I should start shouting "Open, Sesame" as I walk through and really freak people out! If you use BART everyday, then I recommend signing up. Its a no hassle way to travel. No more lining up to get a new ticket, or having to beg for change to use the Add Fare machine.

If you work downtown and live in the RiDi, you better get to know these buses, or you'll just be the chump on the regular 31 Balboa/38 Geary that gets the hour-long, reasonably stinky and ghetto tour of the city on the way to work. The 31 AX ain't great (I rarely get a seat in the morning, and some broads refuse to move to the back of the bus when it gets crowded), but it sure beats the regular 31 Balboa. FYI, the 31AX starts at the beach near the Safeway and the "Last local stop" is Balboa and Park Presidio. The next stop after *that* is Sansome & Montgomery. Not bad, right?
