    RIP to our beloved pup.

We turned to Golden Gate Veterinary Specialists because they came highly recommended and had the earliest available internist appointment despite being 50 miles away. Our dog was facing a potentially serious diagnosis--cancer or a fungal infection--and time was of the essence. We had the fungal blood test done on Tues 08/20, knowing that every moment counted. By Thurs 08/22, our dog's condition deteriorated rapidly, with recurring fevers that made us fear the worst. I reached out to Golden Gate, and they assured me the results might arrive on Fri 08/23 but would most likely be in by Mon 08/26. They promised to keep me informed. Fri 08/23 came and went with no updates, despite my attempts to reach out. We scheduled an appointment with our primary vet for Mon 08/26 at 4 PM, hoping we'd have the results in hand. At 3:30 PM, I called Golden Gate and was told to expect a summary and a call from the doctor. By 5:10 PM, I had heard nothing. I called again and again, only to be met with voicemail even though their office states they close at 5:30 PM! In desperation, we took our dog to the emergency vet. The blood tests revealed she was in bad shape. We were faced with an impossible choice: if it was cancer, the vet advised it might be time to let her go... If it was a fungal infection, it would mean a long and uncertain treatment. But we still didn't have the critical results needed to make an informed decision. Over the weekend, our dog fought hard, but by the end of the night, we made the painful decision to let her rest. The uncertainty made it even more agonizing. On Tuesday morning, after multiple inquiries, I finally received a call informing me that the fungal test was negative. The result had been ready since Fri 08/23 morning! Golden Gate Veterinary Specialists failed us when we needed them most. Their lack of communication during such a critical time is inexcusable. We trusted them with our dog's life, and they let us down. No one should have to experience the distress we went through.

Dr. Farese is a kind and gentle surgeon. After surgery, my sweet girl walked right up to him wagging her tail, even though she was still coming out of anesthesia. He listens to your needs and he makes sure you know what to expect. He is a skilled surgeon. My girl, Charlie, got a little facelift with her growth removal :-)

The best place to bring your pet for specialized care. Dr Eckholm and her staff are wonderful. My lab Hank has dealt with skin issues and chronic allergies. Dr Eckholm nailed it and fixed the problem.

Oh Mum! What is this ice pack on my head for!!!

We were warmly greeted by Beverly, who was not only friendly and helpful but also incredibly patient while trimming Julia's nails (no easy task since she's a wiggler!). She handled her with such care and gentleness. Dr. Nagra is truly a gem. From the moment he walked in, he was genuine, kind, and attentive. He took the time to really get to know Julia's condition, asked thoughtful questions, and gave her one of the most thorough exams she's ever had. Unlike other vets we've seen who sometimes rush through, he carefully checked her eyes, ears, and overall health, explaining everything clearly along the way. He answered all of our many questions with patience, empathy, and deep knowledge. Most importantly, he made us feel that Julia's well-being was his top priority. Taylor at the front desk was also wonderful--friendly and efficient in helping us check out smoothly. Overall, I would highly, highly recommend this practice. Even if you're traveling from out of town (like we were), it is absolutely worth it to know your furry loved one is in such good hands. We've already scheduled a follow-up and are happy to have found Julia's new primary vet. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Thank you to Dr. Nagra and the entire team for your outstanding care!

This facility is very clean and nicely laid out with large waiting area. The staff are friendly and empathetic even though their jobs are very difficult and demanding. One thing that can be done better is prioritizing tests (not treatments). My dog had bloody diarrhea, they had to partially sedate her twice, once for xray and once for ultrasound. Both could have happened together if planning was better. Again just the test and not consultation. Hope nobody ever has to go to ER (for people or animals) but the staff here do handle things good and make it less painful.

They recommended an internist and we decided on PESCM The PESCM internist recommended telmisartan which we knew was common but could have dangerous downsides. We questioned the dosage on the prescription but internist was confident the prescription slightly below his weight is normal. The PESCM internist said he had mild to moderate kidney disease After five days, we rushed our fur baby to PESCM because the telmisartan caused him to be dizzy and he was stumbling and having a hard time with balance. The doctor at PESCM said his blood pressure was really low at 70. Our fur baby stayed at PESCM two and half days and we called every few hours for updates. They gave him lots of fluids via IV his blood pressure went as high as 178. High blood pressure was something new because he had a 120 BP a few weeks prior. During discharge, we noticed there was poop on his butt as his butt area was dirty. We can't imagine how it got so dirty unless he was left unattended and pooped in the kennel and compounded it by scooting an irritated butt on the hospital's outdoor dirty astroturf. As of today, he continues to scoot his butt and we suspect there is an infection we will address. Being skeptical of the care PESCM provided, a few hours after being discharged we went to our primary vet and his blood pressure was an alarming 210. San Francisco was closer and we rushed to San Francisco Animal Medical Center. They ran an ultrasound that determined our fur baby has fluid in his chest and abdomen. Two months prior, an ultrasound did not show this. This was a brand new development. Did it occur when PESCM had our fur baby with IV fluids for over 24 hours? We're not sure. In addition ,his kidney structure is severely damaged.. The San Francisco Animal Medical Center doctor's prognosis was that we can hope that he has weeks or months to live. We understand PESCM prescribed the minimum amount of telmisartan but that and the trauma during ER at PESCM has contributed to taking away time with our loved one and is speeding up his death. We shared this update with PESCM and they said they were sorry and glad we did a recheck at San Francisco Animal Medical Center. I'd definitely recommend San Francisco Medical Animal Center for your fur babies emergency needs.

A couple of days later, my wife and I thought our dog caught two more ticks, but the ticks would not come off. We called an emergency veterinary hospital, but the veterinarian technician (vet tech) did not think tick bites were an emergency and advised that we go to a regular veterinary clinic. We quickly found West End Animal Center and obtained a quick appointment. The office staff was extremely friendly. Two large boxers rested behind the counter and enjoyed their extra-large cushions. In the exam room, Dr. Frye quickly showed up instead of the usual vet tech. He explained those two spots were not ticks and advised that we should use the prescription Nexgard instead of our regular K9 Advantix II for tick control. Dr. Frye also advised that our dog can use a blood test after the tick bites. We thought the blood test was an excellent idea and approved it. However, our Yorkie did not think a blood test was an excellent idea. The visit was the first time we saw a blood draw. As Dr. Frye approached with his syringe and inserted it in our Yorkie's leg, our dog quickly snapped and grabbed the syringe with his mouth. Dr. Frye removed his syringe from our dog's mouth and tried again. The second time, again, our dog quickly snapped and grabbed the syringe, but the syringe fell to the floor. Thereupon, Dr. Frye suddenly grabbed, pushed, and held our dog's head to the exam table; leaned toward a drawer for another syringe; and obtained the blood sample. We did not think much of Dr. Frye's abrupt action, as he needed a blood sample. After we left the office, we discussed the visit and particularly Dr. Frye's method in obtaining the blood sample. We concluded that our dog is small, and we believe that Dr. Frye grabbing, pushing, and holding our small dog's head to a table was overly forceful. Distressed, shortly after we got the negative blood test results at home, we did not follow up with a scheduled teeth cleaning, which we postponed and finally canceled. Though the office staff is extremely friendly, we believe that Dr. Frye's abruptness and forcefulness toward our Yorkie during a blood draw was unprofessional and violent. If you have a medium or large dog, you will likely have no problems in this vet clinic as your dog can easily defend itself. However, if you have a small dog, please be careful here.

So as long as you ask for the itemized bill so you know what you're getting into you shouldn't have to big of a problem. I will say I was a little shocked at the cost but also haven't had to take my dog to the vet in a while as he is not that big of a trouble maker so likely could have been my lack of exposure to the clinic experience lately. What I came in for - was 2 small lumps on her that I was afraid would need biopsy and maybe more - he looked at them and said, I don't think they are a problem, you don't need to do anything, just keep an eye on. What a relief - hundreds saved there! And - even more - when I adopted my 80# dog from a large East Bay shelter 3 years ago (she was dropped off as a senior at a night deposit box, with broken off teeth, so we did not know her past) - I took her to UC Davis dental vet dept and was quoted $5-6k to address her situation. That was out of reach for me so I gave up hope on being able to help my dog in that way, but I'd do the best I could to give her the best life in other ways. It was so scary I didn't even want to look in her mouth from then on, and it was hopeless anyway. Dr A calmly apprised her situation, gave me solid simple, do-able, advice about how to care for her teeth and gums from now on - and I got a quote for less than 1/3 of that prior quote to do the dental work she needed! Now, I feel like I can take care of this, finally, 3 years after adopting her. God Bless this honest, down to earth, family clinic that treats their patient animals like family too!

I had specifically requested the most comprehensive urinalysis available, because I had explained detailed concerns about my dog's health. What I received was a basic analysis -- and my dog didn't even have a UTI. The bill also included two small bags of supplements. When I asked for the test to be repeated correctly, or for a partial refund of $237 for the analysis I didn't receive, my request was ignored. I'd strongly recommend checking the details of any test results you receive here -- and comparing prices online before accepting any service or product. My second concern is far more serious. For over a year, my dog was limping. During multiple visits, the vets here observed her walking in and still only prescribed pain pills and anti-inflammatory medication -- never investigating further. No one identified the damaged cruciate ligament she had been walking on, in pain, for all that time. When I finally met the owner to explain the situation, she kept her back to me the entire time, never once looked at my dog, and sent us home with more pills. After years of unnecessary suffering and thousands of dollars wasted, I took my dog to UC Davis Veterinary. When I described her symptoms over the phone, they immediately suspected the cause, scheduled the right diagnostics, and confirmed the problem. My dog underwent a delicate surgery that, thankfully, went well -- despite the condition having been ignored for so long. Products here are also priced two to three times above what you'd find online. You are paying top dollar for a very high level of care that, in my experience, you are not receiving.

Some of the issues we experienced at Redwood ... The staff is awful, as in they all roll their eyes at her when she has her back to them, and when they are in the room with her, she's training them as they go. She hires people that are totally unskilled as vet techs, and she probably pays them poorly. They all look miserable. Her office is also dark and like a weird version of "Get Out", vet edition. Our pup had a UTI, and Genevieve had us worried that something was seriously wrong with our pup, and she pushed $800 of tests on us. Then, she didn't bother to tell us that she was taking off on vacation for over a week, so we sat in misery waiting for her to get back and tell us the results, because no one else in her office could do that. Basically, we helped fund her stupid vaca, because there was nothing wrong with our dog. She then told me that our pup has a thyroid issue (despite her thyroid level being normal on the tests!!) and prescribed meds for her- she totally misdiagnosed her and was going to put her on meds for no reason. I did not get the meds, as I knew she was totally erroneous in her diagnosis. Finally, when I emailed her about my concerns and shared that we felt frustrated by her lack of care....about her freaking us out needlessly...running a bunch of unneeded tests, and subjecting our poor dog to unnecessary pokes and jabs, and about her not letting us know that we wouldn't have the test results as she was taking off on vaca (leaving us hanging for over a week)....she merely responded " do what you gotta do". As in, she could not care less if we left her practice. I'm not mincing my words here...she is total trash, and completely negligent and unethical.
