Foods so good here even after 10 years. Maybe we are older, the sauce for crispy tofu is a bit too sweet, but the tofu was fried very well, and flavor overall is still really good. Both scallion oil and numb oil noodles are really good and good value too at $6 each. Flavors are on point. Luroufan special was also good $8 and they give quite a lot so easy to split among the kids. Meat is tender and not overly sweet. The scallion ginger fish fillet was probably the best, and they give a good chunky pieces of fish that is not breaded, but the way they cooked it. The meat trunks stayed together intact. The flavor is what you expect from traditionally steamed fish with soy sauce pour over at the end. Super pleased with the options. Oh wow. Get yourself the Three Cup Chicken! Today we ordered the chicken and Taiwanese Shrimp Rolls. The rolls were very mild and the meat and vegetables were minced very finely which made the whole thing a bit soggy. But the chicken was fantastic. Many flavors at this restaurant are muted, but not in the Three Cup Chicken. It tasted boldly of sesame and rice vinegar, with large pieces of ginger, garlic, and basil strewn liberally throughout. The pork intestines were a little smelly within some bites. Some part was cooked okay while there was literally salt on the other part. Rice tasted not good as other places. My family in law always order take out on Christmas Day. I've been a part of this tradition for two years and we always order from Golden Harbor. It is so delicious! We always get a large assortment of chicken, beef, and tofu with rice and noodles. My favorite is the szechuan beef and tan tan noodles, spicy but delicious! Iconic spot in Champaign. Massive menu, massive portions, quick service. Plenty of space for large groups. I came here with my fiance and we ordered 3 dishes + vegetarian egg rolls. We (obviously) had plenty of leftovers because the portions are extremely generous. I love that they offer tofu skin in many dishes-I always have a hard time finding it in Chicago and it's one of my favorite tofu varieties. Lots of vegetarian options clearly labeled. I used to frequent this place because I lived within walking distance and it was great. This place has TWO menus - authentic Chinese and American-style - and they are extensive. I got the one of the squid dishes and it was great but if you want an entree you should come with a group and do it family-style because the portions are huge. It pains me to update my review from 5 stars to a 3 stars, but sadly, the prices have gotten too high and the portion sizes too small. I understand inflation is happening and prices everywhere have gone up, but Golden Harbor has increased prices over 100% since I've first started eating here in 2010. To make matters worse, the portion sizes are much smaller, too. A large entrée used to be enough to comfortably make 3-4 meals from, or share with a group. Now, you get about 2 meals from the large entrée. Our family used to eat here every week or two, but now the high prices have turned it into a luxury we can only afford every few months as a special treat, and honestly, it still feels too expensive. $20-25 for each dish is simply too much. Going to Golden Harbor the first time was a great experience. We got multiple dishes off of their extensive menu. They had loads of options! My favorite was their fried intestines which is for sure an acquired taste. But if you like intestines they are a worth while item to try. Their portions are really big and they are similar to other typical family style Chinese spots. Do note that they are a self serve place. You will have to get forks and spoons by yourself at the counter. There is self serve soda, water, and hot tea pots as well. Once settled you do have to write down your order then go check out at the front. Although it is self serve, I really enjoyed how fast or slow your dining experience can be since you are your own waiter essentially. Chinese Tso Chicken here is the best I've tasted--finally a tso chicken that doesn't make you feel like you need insulin after eating it. Fresh garlic, smoky--very good. Could have gone 4 or maybe even 5 stars, but unfortunately the last 2 times I've ordered it (and also with the Crispy Basil Chicken) the chicken has been overcooked. Granted, overcooked is always better than undercooked chicken, but it was stringy, and I had to bail after 1/2 of the dishes, just because my jaw was too tired to keep trying. This is probably as authentic as it gets. The wall is littered in characters that I presume is the menu. The paper menu is well over 1000 items long and can be daunting for non-mandarin/canto speakers like myself. After asking for assistance with some direction as to what we should order, we got some mapo tofu, general tso's chicken, dumplings, pork buns, and some greens. The food came out more or less fantastic and everything tasted fine. The only critique was that the soup dumplings didn't have enough soup sadly. The only reason why it gets 3 stars is that some of those items are quite expensive. Like some of the prices for their dinner menu were ludicrous in my eyes. Also the unapproachability of this place is insane. If you come here I would highly recommend someone who either knows exactly what they want or someone who speaks the language to be able to identify what they want instantly. read more

Consistently tasty chinese food with a wide variety of choices. Order at the counter and wait for your food to be ready. Staff bring the dishes to the table or you can carry out food. They have tea and hot water for those that want it and clean utensils and cups ready for those dining in. Plenty of tables with some round ones having lazy susans. Mostly simple interior. Golden Harbor is an institution in the Champaign area. For what reason, I'm not sure anymore. They have an American and a Chinese menu, both filled with pages and pages and pages of dishes. They are all rather pricey, in the $15 plus range per dish. Not sure how they keep up with so many dishes, but it seems that people gravitate towards a handful of them and they could perhaps trim down their menu to those particular items. The restaurant has moved location several times over my time here, and it seems like they have never even cleaned this current location since open 8 years ago(??). The cups, dishes, and silverware never been changed out because they look like they been run through the washer over a million times. The walls are cracked, the tables are scratched and it just looks worn over. My food was practically inedible today. They had no lunch specials so I just ordered a few things off the appetizer menu. The eggroll was not cooked evenly at all, one side was almost black while the other was sort of golden brown. It was scalding hot. The hot and sour soup had a slick of chili oil on top, was super salty and tepid at best. I ordered some shrimp dumplings that are typically steamed, but they had this fishy smell to it and they were barely warm. I did not eat that much of anything. read more

I did eat here once before and ordered the spicy beef noodle soup and it was ok. This time ordered boneless pork chop with rice. Pretty decent portion! Pork chop was fried and seasoned well, has a slight sesame flavor. However, rice and bok choy were lukewarm/cool. Pickled veggies could use a little more pickle/sour flavor. I'm quite surprised paying $15 for pork chop with rice. But then again, a lot of their items are highly priced than what I'm used to. Literally they have two menus of items to choose from . A large Chinese menu and a smaller American version menu. Both are in English but the American version has the typical items most Americans look for. For the daring, however, I recommend you pick something off the Chinese menu. I had the beef lo mein and orange chicken. Also some crab Rangoon and crispy chicken dumplings. All of it was amazing and tasted real. Not to mention our food was delivered to our table super fast! I wouldn't expect this speed on busy nights but it was the fastest I've ever seen food served in a long time. They have drink options but offer complimentary water and tea. Overall an awesome visit! My only gripe is the lack of small portions available for the food. I tried to order small but was forced to get large. Sure that leaves plenty to take home but the bill became kind of expensive.
