Just a few comments on the local Mojave area around Edwards, not on this specifically posted…read more(business)location. Although the posted commentary of the first reviewer certainly sounds typical, I'd somewhat question the comment about hot nights in the Mojave. My personal experience has been that typically, about 4 PM every day, a strong wind comes up across the Mojave and temps usually can drop over 50 degrees from day to night. North of Edwards, in the eastern reaches of California City, there used to be (not sure if still there) a long dirt road-trail across the desert, that one might drive, knowing that you were traversing the old and famous 20 mule-team Borax Trail, from Death Valley to the railhead at Mojave. (See: http://home.earthlink.net/~cyberkiwi/desertexploration/trborax.htm) East of Edwards, there is an area famous for Hot-Air Ballooning. South of Edwards, east of Lancaster, off a desert road, a hillside encropment, host an open mine entrance, with old tracks and an unsafe old wooden ladder, that descends into the almost vertical depths of the old mine, only to find the bottom-of-the-shaft filled with water. A friend once slowly descended into the water, to find a horizontal water-filled shaft with air-pockets under the roof. (Not recommended!) If you can access Edwards itself, South Edwards may yet have traces of the old Edwards Sled-Track, on which the Astronauts rode a rocket-sled across the desert, to experience G-forces. The track was moved to Holloman AB, New Mexico years ago. Along the south rim of Rogers Dry Lake Bed, are the old remaining buildings and roads of the original Edwards, nee Muroc Army Air Station, made famous in air-flight history, with famous names like Chuck Yeager, X-1 rocket ship and more. Just walking through this area, when the wind blows, one can almost feel the winds of history! And finally (here), there is the famous Edwards Rocket Base, on the ridge overlooking Rogers Dry Lake, somewhat south-east of Edwards. Here is a website (link) to another website with a quote that 'paints-a-magnificent-picture', of the time-and-place of Rocket Base in history, as told in the Foreword to an online Hollywood Documentary screenplay. Enjoy! http://www.fiwd.org/Reality.htm

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with unhurried charm, service with a smile, and a feeling that we were more family than guests. The Rankin family and staff are truly exceptional. Sarah, Clint, Shelby, Emma, Chris, Ms. Glenda, and Mr. Bill are world-class hosts who made our stay far exceed every expectation. We were celebrating our anniversary, and on our very first night they surprised us with a delicious cake, making us feel incredibly special and cared for. The horseback riding was wonderful, taking us through beautiful meadows and across the valley. One of my favorite experiences was visiting Sarah's farm, where we met goats, a donkey, chickens, mini horses, farm cats, and even a baby calf that I had the chance to bottle-feed! We loved the swimming pool, they have archery, a fire pit, pool table, or if you want to just be quiet and read a book that is amazing too. The Fresh air was wonderful and we were able to nap and just enjoy reconnecting. Evenings were filled with fun, family-centered activities. We loved learning square dancing on our first night, and the second evening featured a unique Rankin Ranch game that had everyone laughing and connecting. Sunday was especially memorable. The day began with a delicious waffle breakfast, followed by horseback riding and a hayride to a gorgeous meadow for lunch. The Rankin Ranch beef burgers were outstanding--honestly one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. The afternoon horseshow tournament was the perfect ending to a wonderful day. What makes Rankin Ranch so special is that it's truly an unplugged experience. There are no TVs and no Wi-Fi, but what you gain is far more valuable: peace, relaxation, meaningful conversations, and the chance to reconnect with the people around you. As a bonus, the ranch offers subscription boxes featuring their incredible beef, as well as quarter, half, and whole cattle available for shipment. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already dreaming about our next visit. Thank you, Rankin Ranch, for being such a class act and for creating an experience we'll never forget. We can't wait to come back. I

DO NOT recommend a visit even if your patience is high and your expectations are low. If you go:…read morerequest a bed without exposed mattress springs; know BBQ dinner portions are mini & insufficient BBQ sauce for everyone; the fishing lake is a gunky algae divot; your trail ride may just walk in a square around the barn; prepare for extremely ill-mannered children that are allowed to stay; & accept staff apologies but receive no satisfaction. IMHO inheriting a ranch does not qualify one to host Dudes.

We just had our daughter's 5 year old birthday this past weekend at the ranch. Best idea ever. I…read morefound out about this place because my good friend had her daughter's birthday party here and my girls loved it. A year later they still remembered the party including the horses they rode and pet--Gidget and Traveler. So when it came time to find a spot for my little one's birthday, this place was the first one to come to mind. I could not be happier about the experience we had. Jenna and her family were so accommodating and so very easy to work with. I felt like she was an old friend. They try their best to make sure everyone has a great experience--including the host. Once you've got everything set up the way you want (food, decorations, etc), you just let them run it and they make the activities flow smoothly. I was able to roam around and mingle with guests and watch my kids ride horses. Every single one of my guests--children and adults--had a wonderful time. Many people commented on how peaceful and relaxed they felt there. Having no cell service really helped because nobody was distracted by their phone. Everyone was enjoying the moment and time with their kids. I loved the open, outdoor, natural space with the beautiful and gentle horses. There were also goats, chickens and pigs. Gold panning, "pin" the tail on a real donkey, painting a real horse, an open barn area where other horses are available to visit and pet. Our family made the trek up from the Sherman Oaks area and our guests came from even further away. They all thought it was worth the drive. I highly recommend! (birthday parties, weddings, photography, filming, riding lessons, affordable packaged birthday, family, fun)

All the children enjoyed riding the horses and playing the games, but my biggest surprise was how much they enjoyed panning for "gold". My party was 3 hours long and the children were occupied and enjoying themselves the entire time. Not only did the kids have a good time, all the adults commented on what a relaxing atmosphere the ranch was. We are now planning an "adult only day".

I placed a call, the owner Monica answered right away and I explained our situation. In that very first phone call, she let me know they were still able to compete at events on horseback that my son might like to do and she even offered one of her lesson horses for him to use. When I excitedly told my son what she said, he replied "Why would she offer me her horse, she doesn't even know us??!" I told him, well, I guess some people are just giving like that or have a feel for good people like us. That pretty much sums Monica up. She is the consumate giver and ultimate all around horsewoman. She's all about the horses FIRST and does not hesitate to offer her decades of amazing experience and support in any scenario. Whether taking lessons or boarding here, you will automatically be at an advantage because of who she is as a person. Monica ended up giving us our first horse, as well as continuing to offer her support to this tiny family of green horse owners ourselves, as we've added a few more after! We can't envision being anywhere else, it's truly been a blessing knowing Monica, as well as all the other engaging and supportive horse owners at Sweetwater!
