The best hotel i have been so far. It is a four star hotel. They treat you like royalty. The place is VERY clean. The moment you walk in the lobby it is nice and cool and they have it scented with a very refreshing scent. They cam with breakfast, which was amazing. And it wasn't the usual hotel breakfast i am used to which is donuts, cereals, and coffee. It was a full on buffet of filipino breakfast cuisine. The rooms are spacious and customer service is very nice. All we had to do was dial 0 if we needed anything and they would have it brought up. Extra towel or if we ran out of toilet paper. The location is also amazing, walking distance from the mall of asia and the sea side bars for some night life action The only reason why this hotel is receiving a 4 is because of a little problem we came across. We stayed there for 4 nights 5 days. On our first day we realized our fridge wasn't working, and it may seem like not a big deal, but with the heat in manila sometimes we just like to get to our room and get some nice refreshing cold water in our system. We asked to have it fixed and they came right away and they said they will have it picked up and replaced. But they never did. I tried to call the front desk but i'm usually back at the hotel pretty late and they will say they will have it handled the next day but it never happened till i had to check out. Also on checkout, check out ahead of time because it was our first time checking out and they do all their inspections and handle all the other fees with you upfront. It was new since i'm used to just handing my keys in and getting my credit card charged if i had left the hotel room a mess. (Which is never) so i was trying to chase my flight and they had me sitting there so i can pay for whatever they find to charge me for. Nevertheless i had a great experience with them. I really would not recommend this hotel if you are expecting a clean or comfortable stay. The only positives were that the staff were kind and the hotel is close to Mall of Asia. As soon as we walked in, the lobby had a very strong, overwhelming smell, almost like warm, worn-out perfume. It was not pleasant and made the hotel feel uncomfortable right away. Check-in and check-out were also very hectic. The front area was crowded, busy, and did not feel organized, which made the whole process more stressful than it needed to be. The room itself was the biggest disappointment. The walls, baseboards, bathroom areas, and furniture looked very worn down and poorly maintained. There were visible gaps and damage that made the room feel old, neglected, and unsanitary. We also saw roaches in the room, which made the damaged walls and baseboards even more concerning. It did not feel like a one-time cleanliness issue. It felt like a bigger maintenance problem with the building. Because of the roaches and overall condition of the hotel, I did not feel comfortable eating at the café or restaurants on the property. The hotel is decent with the price I paid. The room is clean and neat. The buffet is good prepared to cater both locals and foreigners. We don't have to worry about where to eat. We just have go to the 7th floor. The first day we checked, the hotel smells good but after 5 days of stay the good scent faded. It would have been better if they maintain the good smell. It hides the old feeling of the building. The staff were all courteous and you will be greeted whenever you meet one. It was easy to talk with them or request something. This hotel was so disappointing and I'm glad I didn't stay there for an extra day. The front looked so nice when we walked in, but its just a facade. Clean lobby, but the different floors with the rooms were humid in the hallways and disgustingly dirty. Not to mention a little dated. The room was decent, but the whole experience in general wasn't that good. The room was it's only redeeming quality with it's comfy bed and nice ac. The bathroom was a little unmaintained. The Golden Phoenix is a beautiful hotel that is a short drive from the Nino Aquino International Airport in Manila. The hotel has an airport shuttle that runs 3 times daily. Taxis and Uber are readily available for your transportation needs. It is walking distance to the SM Mall of Asia. Upon entering the hotel, both my husband and I were impressed by the beautiful lobby. We were further impressed by the professionalism and courtesy of every staff member we interacted with. Our room was really nice! It looked exactly like the photos on the hotel website (and Agoda.com). They offer a daily breakfast buffet which was included with the price we paid for the room. Across from the dining room, there is a small gym that is clean and looks regularly maintained. We absolutely loved the staff and the accommodations! We highly recommend the Golden Phoenix to anyone who is staying in Manila. We will definitely stay here when we return to the Philippines in the near future! read more

I have definitely had better in the Philippines! When looking for 3 rooms last minute on Priceline, this newer hotel came up for a dirt cheap $60US a night. The pictures on the website showed a relatively new and modern hotel walking distance to the Mall of Asia. For that price, I felt like it was too good to be true. Once I arrived, the place started to unravel. I must preface that I don't typically provide many 1 or 2 star reviews. The experience here wasn't that great. Here we go... Front Desk Staff - It was already an awkward experience because the front staff had a very disgruntled customer they were dealing with while I was waiting in line. The employees working the front desk weren't too friendly and looked stressed out. It took about 25 minutes to finally check-in and get room keys for my 3 rooms from the time I entered the hotel. The Hotel Facilities - For a hotel that hasn't been open too long, the place had many signs of wear and tear! The golden colored carpets that lined all the hotel hallways were really dirty. They had black marks everywhere on each floor. The lobby tiles were noticeably dirty and had some even had cracks. It's really weird that I even remember these things. There was absolutely no air conditioning in the elevators and hallways. Seriously, it was maybe 90-95 degrees in the elevators! The Rooms - I reserved 3 rooms total. Two rooms had 2 queen beds. I also reserved a junior suite room with a queen bed and separate living room. Most annoying part of all 3 rooms is that the air conditioning was turned off! Again probably 95 degrees in each room! It took probably an hour to get the rooms to a bearable temperature. The rooms were large and had comfortable beds. Restrooms were small. Most important thing to me with regards to restrooms in the Philippines is shower water pressure. Luckily the water pressure is strong. Breakfast Buffet - Every hotel I've stayed at in the Philippines has breakfast included. Hands down they serve the worst hotel breakfast. For a hotel in Metro Manila, not too many western options. They had eggs, toast and fruit. Otherwise, all they served was mediocre Filipino adobo, fish and pork dishes. Ended up getting some Mc Donald's across the street immediately afterwards. LOL The Pool - Didn't go in but checked the place out. The pool was small. What was odd was that there was no lounge seating or places to put your towel or clothes on. Overall, this place was a disappointment. Skip this hotel and make accommodations elsewhere! read more

I would not categorize this as a 4 star hotel. Maybe 2. The place is run down and very old. There is only one elevator functioning. The wall paper is tearing off and there are molds on the bathroom sink. I don't feel safe. The only saving grace is the staff. They are very respectful and courteous. read more

4.5 stars. Even with the typical Manila gridlock, Golden Phoenix isn't too far of a haul from the airport. This boutique hotel's lobby is immaculate and the staff is outstanding; everyone was friendly and accommodating. There are convenience stores and restaurants next door and across the street and it's walking distance to the SM Mall of Asia, so you'll never run out of food or supplies as you explore Manila or get ready to journey to see the rest of the Philippines. I liked our clean and comfortable room, which had a nice view of the mall. My wife actually stayed here twice: once when we arrived and also when we were getting ready to go home. On our first stay the wifi was spotty and I had some work to finish so I was a little stressed. Thankfully, I found an unused conference room that the staff let me use since its wifi was much better. The hotel isn't perfect, though. The free daily buffet is good, if not memorable. Some of the hallway carpets were old and needed a good cleaning. Finally, as other reviewers noted, the hotel shares a space with private residences so if you're at the pool area you'll have a nice view of people's clothes air drying from their balconies. Still, I'm giving Golden Phoenix high marks strictly for its service. On our final day before we went home, we arrived late to the hotel so we only a few hours to clean up before going to the airport. The staff, once again, were kind and accommodating and packed up two big boxed dinners for us, making sure we were well-fed before our long flight. Very close to the SM Mall of Asia 70 pesos uber ride one way. 15-25 minutes to and from airport depending on traffic knowing Manila traffic .Expect longer drive time on holidays and rush hours, uber approx 150 pesos one way Staff are friendly and helpful Complimentary breakfast exclusively for hotel guests using the breakfast voucher given during check in. 650 pesos for extra guest. We stayed at a Deluxe Room with 2 double beds, the room was huge and bathroom looks nice! Theres a few stains on the wall and AC unit was quite loud. Photos I attached are photos of lobby, concierge, front door, bathroom, beds, prices of in-room snack and mini bar The elevator can be tricky since theres designated elevators only for Employees, Unit owners and hotel guest. In order to access the hotel guest elevator, you have to take the escalator to the second floor so if you have luggages if you are coming from the airport, the staff will gladly help you. Complimentary shuttle to and from airport and the Mall of Asia but very limited schedule times. Stayed only 1 night since I only needed a place to sleep overnight before heading out to the airport for an international flight and security deposit was 3,000 pesos which will be refunded upon checkout. read more

Great stay at this hotel. Close location to MOA and it has two convenience stores downstairs. On the 7th floor there a nice workout room and another Chinese convenience store. The 7th floor also has a restaurant with a great buffet for breakfast. The room was comfortable, clean and wifi was excellent in the room. You can easily walk to Manila Bay ( about 15 minutes) and also walk to Baclaran church and market (about 15-20 minutes). read more

Stayed here for one night during a layover to Palawan. It was pouring when we pulled up to the hotel and the doormen ran to our taxi with umbrellas so we can stay dry. Check in with John was a breeze - though they do hold your credit card number in case of incidents. Everyone in the front (the 3 front desk people, the bell hops, and the doormen) were all very polite and friendly. After settling down, we were starving but did not want to leave the hotel because of the pouring rain. Because their restaurant is not yet open (it's a new hotel), John was more than accommodating. He provided us with 3 menus of the closest places and even placed our order for us since none of us spoke the language. The hotel rooms themselves are small but very modern and updated. The shower was awesome. Also, it is very close to the airport. Just keep in mind that Manila has some CRAZY traffic so, even though, this hotel was only a few minutes away from the airport, it took us a great 30-40 minutes to get there. However, heading to the airport to catch our 7am flight took less than 10 minutes. All in all, we were very happy with this hotel. It was very cheap (only $59 for the night!) but I'm guessing this is because it's not completely open (restaurant and pool were not yet available). Stayed 2 nights. When I was booking a hotel, I was looking in this area for the following reasons: Near airport - from map view, it is approx 3 miles to NAIA. Proximity was an important factor for me, because if you've ever been to Manila, traffic here is CRAZY. The unpredictability of a 3 mile stretch can range anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours. Mall of Asia - this place is supposedly one of the biggest malls in Asia. Well, it is within a 10 minute walk of the hotel. If the humidity or heat gets to you, then there are plenty of taxis willing to take you for roughly 100 Pesos = less than USD $2.50, A/C and all. Newer building - if I recall, it was built in 2015. Now, besides the above, here is what I found once there: Finding the hotel - the building is right next to the 3 white condo complexes across MOA. It is dark brown or gray. I say this because it is not so prominent. And at night, it is hard to see as there aren't very many lights on. Check-in - arrived at the worst time, around 12:00. This is the time when other guests are still checking out. But I wanted to drop off my bags and kill time at MOA until the 2:00pm check-in. After waiting almost 15 minutes, finally got someone to tag my bags. Came back slightly after 2pm. Check in took about 5 minutes. Service - was so-so. If anything, bell staff were more attentive and friendly compared to front desk staff. Rooms - booked 2 rooms. They were both on the 2nd level, but were on opposite sides of the building... not sure if they were at capacity. For a second it bothered me, then I realized, I think I'm okay sleeping away from my party... Hahaha. So if you book more than 1 room and absolutely want rooms near each other - TELL them! Rooms were spacious, beds good size, you get 2 robes and 2 slippers in the closet. Rooms are not carpeted. Minibar helpful. Bathrooms are pretty big. Shower area is also big and had good water pressure. High ceilings in the room, not sure why I remember that, but the higher ceilings was different than other rooms I've been to. Breakfast buffet - I'm a fan of hotel breakfasts and usually choose to pay the extra cash to include it in booking. What I discovered in all 4 countries visited in SE Asia - "Breakfast" buffet is more of a "Brunch". The spread was really good. Aside from continental/Western items, main courses included the country's local dishes. Very much worth it and delicious, too! I didn't make use of the pool, but it is on the 7th floor near the breakfast area. Area - compared to the rest of busy/chaotic Manila, there is not much traffic outside because there aren't too many establishments yet. There is a bank downstairs and an eatery across the building, none of which I used though. The only cons I could think of are: - gold colored carpet on the hallways to rooms. I get it, to match hotel name, but it looks dirty. You see all the black runs... - the building is also home to condo units. At least that's what I remember seeing in some of the signs such as "this elevator for condo owners". Overall, paid approx $69/room per night. It was reasonable. read more

I waited to the last minute and I couldn't get a room here. After having a bad experience at the Armada hotel a room finally opened up and we immediately transferred over to the Golden Phoenix. It's an amazing hotel with a huge buffet including French toast and pancakes. The rooms themselves are very clean a.m. housekeeping is amazing. It's in walking distance of mall of Asia and a great boardwalk overlooking the ocean which is great night life and carnivals. It's away from neighborhoods that are unsafe because this is a hospitality area with many hotels so security is great and you could walk the streets at midnight and not worry about anything. When it comes to my partners from the United States staying anywhere we only stay at the Golden Phoenix. They're swimming pools amazing too! read more

I booked my hotel for one week and the volcano Taal eruption caused my flight to be cancelled so of course I could not show up as I was flying from Hong Kong to Manila. When I contacted the hotel I explained the situation they said "show us the cancellation by the airline"..which I obliged very willingly. Two weeks they write me back and all they did was quote the hotel policy "Cancellation and Change Policy: Any cancellation received within 7 days prior to arrival date will incur the full period charge. Failure to arrive at your hotel or property will be treated as a No-Show and no refund will be given (Property policy)" and kept my whole weeks reservation money! I will Never book this hotel again and hope everyone thinks twice about staying at this hotel! VERY poor customer service and experience. read more

"Give credit where credit is due." This is what I'm doing here. My last trip to Manila was a very last-minute, ill-planned trip, so I was not expecting our hotel accommodations to be anything more than average. We definitely received more than was expected from our stay. My first impression of the hotel was that it was average, nice enough, but definitely not on the level of the previous hotel we had stayed at in Makati, New World Resort. From the moment we arrived, there were friendly bell staff available to greet us and assist with the unloading of our luggage. The front desk staff were also very welcoming. We had to wait a bit (about 20 minutes) for our room to be ready, but we realized this was out of the control of the hotel staff, so we weren't bothered by the situation at all. When our room was ready, we had hotel staff assist us once again with our luggage. The entire check-in process was very friendly and for the most part, went smoothly. We definitely felt welcomed, which to me, is always most important in hospitality. Our room was beyond what I had imagined it to be. Not only did we have a perfect view of Mall of Asia, the second largest mall in all of Asia, but our beds were extremely comfortable, the room temperature was perfect, and the bathroom was very private- none of this see-through walls crap, which I strongly despise, especially when it isn't a romantic get-away. The room was equipped with a mini bar, which we didn't care much for. The location of the hotel is very convenient for the business traveler, or even just for a weekend get-away. It is located in a seemingly safe part of Pasay, Manila. Also located all around the hotel are banks where currency can be exchanged, 24-hour convenience stores, a few bars, a 24-hour restaurant with delicious fried chicken, a top-notch massage spa (Nuit Thai Massage), and the Mall of Asia. MOA is only about a 5-minute walk away. If you need to go somewhere far, taxis are always available right outside the hotel, or front desk staff can always arrange a shuttle service to wherever you're headed. Many nightclubs (gay-friendly ones included) and tourist attractions are just a short drive away. Throughout the remainder of our short stay at this hotel, we became more and more pleased with all the friendly service and accommodations provided to us. The hotel staff were always willing to go out of their way to help us (ask for Twinkle at front desk), the housekeepers were always friendly and professional, the breakfast in the only restaurant in the hotel was exquisite, and the VERY attractive bell staff were always very friendly and pleasant (also very receptive to flirting, might I add). LOL. The average price per night is about $67 US dollars, so it is definitely affordable, considering the level of professionalism and excellent ambiance provided. Would I recommend this hotel to anyone? ABSOLUTELY. Pasay isn't the best part of Manila to stay at during your visit to the Philippines, but if you must, definitely consider staying at Golden Phoenix. You won't regret it, I'm almost certain. Rooms were Hot AF....takes a while for the AC to circulate once you insert your key. When we visited last week the hallways were stuffy, the hallway AC units must've been inop. Water pressure was weak. Should of just provided rooms with buckets and a tabo, that would've of earned this review another star. We had to change rooms because our AC in our room was cooling half ass. An engineer had to visit the room and said he would need to clean the filter and would take 30 mins (this is at 11:30pm), we had to bust out our manual bamboo fans as if we were praising on a Sunday. Mini fridges are provided with drinks, fridge temperature set to max. Woke up next morning......took out one of the water bottles....couldn't drink it cause it was so hot, just ended up pouring it in my cup o noodles and 3 mins later I had instant noodles. read more

First of all, the hotel baggage handlers were very nice. I had no problem. My problem was with the check in people at the counter. My girlfriend made reservations for me to check in by 2 pm, the standard check in time, and she was going to join me later when her plane landed. The next morning we were denied the complimentary breakfast for some reason, even though she confirmed it through her email that we were entitled to it; BUT when I checked in, the clerk said I needed to leave a 3000 peso "security deposit", which was not mentioned in my girlfriend's email. I asked the clerk if I could use my card to pay it, and she said no, they needed cash, which struck me as odd. She said they would refund it in the morning. She also said the free breakfast was not included, which is also odd, because it was also confirmed in my girlfriend's email that we were entitled to it. My girlfriend tried to show the clerk her email, but the clerk did not want to see it, and on the paper the clerk had, the reservation for the breakfast was marked through, as though cancelled. The person was very rude when my girlfriend tried to point this out, and also when my girlfriend called her out for trying to charge me a "security deposit" for one night. The day I got there, I went upstairs to check out the gym, it was ok, but the people at that little store beside the gym were extremely rude. The one lady that was there, actually got up and moved to the back of the store, as if to ignore me, a customer. She looked directly at me, and then got up and moved when I came in looking for a pair of small scissors. The guy at the counter was no less rude. Just to let you know, I will never be spending my money there again. I had never been to this hotel before, thought it was rather nice until all this happened. How can I even give my review when they did not want us to stay at the hotel in the first place? The awful customer service started with the reservations. We booked on Hotels(dot)com and accidentally booked for the wrong days, Sunday - Tuesday was booked instead of Monday - Wednesday. We contacted Hotels(dot)com which referred us to the hotel after reminding us that there is a No-Refund policy. Surely the hotel would easily just switch the days as we did not want a refund. NOPE! Something as simple as switching days was impossible! They have our money, and they could care less about the customer. We travel to the Philippines yearly to visit family in the Provinces, and always stay a few days inbound and a few days outbound in Manila. Suffice it to say that we will never, Never, NEVER stay at this hotel. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER this hotel due to their inflexible reservation policy. UPDATE: I was contacted by the Reservations Manager shortly after I left the same review on their Facebook page. She easily cleared up the mistake and was very apologetic. She asked that I ask for her when we arrived so she could make sure everything was in order and to apologize in person. I appreciate the service, but the frustration could have easily been avoided if the reservation policy were a bit more flexible or the reservation specialist were empowered to better serve the customer. I upticked the star to 2 stars, I will may amend later, after our stay. UPDATE 05/25/2017: Our stay at the GP is completed and all I have to say is WOW! This is one of the best experiences we have had. The level of service from the time we pulled up, to the check-in, to the bell-hop that took our luggage to the room was first class. The bell-hop was especially wonderful. He made sure we knew when and where the complimentary breakfast was served, as well the hotels amenities and how to get to the Mall of Asia. Overall, everyone made us feel very welcome. The room itself was bright, clean, and very comfortable. The bed and linens were great! The headboard is large, padded and attached to the wall which makes for a quiet sleep as well as a good sitting position for watching TV or having a conversation. The bathroom and shower were clean and nicely equipped. The towels were large and soft with the Golden Phoenix logo embroidered in gold on them, very nice. There is a mini-bar with reasonable prices (for a mini-bar) and 2 bottles of water is complementary. The breakfast buffet was great! With lots of Filipino as well as a few Western choices and the egg/omelet bar made this a great start to our morning. The hotel is laid out a bit weird, with the lobby separate from the rooms and no direct access of the elevators to the rooms. You have to take an elevator to the 2nd floor then walk over to the rooms section and take another elevator to the rooms. The carpets in this section looked awful, before we could comment, it was mentioned by the bell hop and he apologized for their dirty appearance, and they were cleaned each day. We looked closer and see that they are not dirty but the gold color combined with the nap of the fibers give it a dirty appearance. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the Mall of Asia, which is ok after the sun sets, but can be a bit brutal in the mid-day sun. The hotel is a short Grab Car/Uber ride (DO NOT take the taxis from the airport, the drivers are untrustworthy, and the cars old and dirty)The wifi is free, with a strong signal, but in typical Philippine fashion the connection is slow, and disconnects often. Don't expect to get much work done if you need to access the internet. A task that takes me 15 minutes in any other country in Asia, Europe or the U.S. took me two hours(!) here. Downloading music or videos will not work due to the connection failing every few minutes. This is not the hotel's fault, but worth mentioning. In conclusion, this is a great hotel in a great part of Manila and we will stay here again. The only issue we had was the inflexible reservation policy. I havegiven 4 stars, which would have been a solid 5 stars was it not for the bad experience with the reservation process. read more

This hotel is not great, not the worst either. But I wouldn't come back. Some service is good, the staff is friendly and courteous. On our first night, we ran out of toilet paper. Called 4 x during the night and morning came and still nothing. Had to call the manager so we can have it delivered to our room, and they give us one roll! Requesting for an ice bucket was also a struggle. (Hotels here in the Philippines don't have ice machines!) Anyway, food is ok. They have breakfast buffet for 2. A few days later you kinda get sick of the same thing over and over. The deal breaker on this hotel is the pool. So disappointed! It's small and not well maintained. Dirty and I don't think there's enough chlorine, coz I can hardly smell any! There were leaves and some sort oil floating around the water. The view from the pool is so sad - an ugly view of unfinished construction and clothes/underwear hanging from the balconies!! We learned that part of the hotel building are condos. Ugh! So much for a relaxing time at the pool. I'm very particular about the hotel pool coz it's the place I like to relax after a day of walking and exploring. Not only it's small (my kids even said our own pool is bigger), it's not well maintained and with a terrible view. Oh I forgot to mention at that time, the jacuzzi was under repair and there were construction guys acting as audience as we tried so hard to "enjoy" the pool area. I had some documents printed and their printer ink was running out so it wasn't pretty. I regret reserving 8 nights at this hotel through Expedia. I never received 10% discount on all meals and beverage per travel package confirmed agreement. I ate their breakfast buffet only one time on my first Saturday and I never returned. The breakfast buffet is the only meal the hotel serves. The hotel communication is poor. From US, I could not confirm a reservation to be picked up at airport before I arrived and needed to call Expedia to communicate with hotel management. Because of no communication from Golden Phoenix prior to my flight to Manila, I decided to pay my fiancé uncle to pick me up, and then a week later, return me to my departure flight. He had to leave work both times to do that for me. ALERT!! One evening, we hadn't eaten all day. My significant other ordered room service from the separately operated restaurant in the hotel. 2 hours later, she had food poisoning and vomited and diarrhea all night into the next day. I had not eaten her dish order so I was ok. As a registered nurse, I did my best to care for her buying items from outside the restaurant convenience store. A few weeks later now, she remains not feeling 100%. There is no medical doctor on-call in the hotel. At 0200 one morning, the hotel allowed a man into the next room. He was hollering and banging the wall adjacent my room. I called hotel front desk for security but the front desk sent nobody to help. I ended up kicking the mans room door telling the man to be quiet. I will never return to this hotel. There is no good faith business practices but blatant dishonesty. There is no apology Golden Phoenix can reply here to set all this correct. They ruined my vacation with my fiancé food poisoning her. I am beyond blown away by this establishment, not only is it an extremely professional and clean environment but the employees go above and beyond for their guests. It was my first time visiting Manila and i arrived at the airport extremely late. Immediately leave the airport doors I was met by a taxi driver who said he would take me to the hotel. I arrived at the hotel and the total was 3050 pesos. Not knowing the cost of taxi's, payed and went into the hotel. When I reached the front desk I asked the price that the taxi should have cost. It should have costed around 800 pesos and I told them what i payed and they were astonished and said they would call the taxi service and report the driver by looking at the cameras and getting the plate number. I was content with that and chalked it up as me being a tourist and getting taken advantage of, my mistake. Today i received a call to my room and it was the head of security and they asked me to come to the front. When i arrived standing by head of security was the taxi driver who drove me. I received a refund for my ride and am in complete disbelief. What an amazing story and i will be staying here every time I visit. The rooms are amazing and I even got upgraded to a suite, I hope every place i stay during my trip is half as good as The Golden Phoenix. read more
