Never really been fond of this place, it seems dangerous after dark. I never get hassled, but I'm prepared for it. I try to put on my mean face when I stop here. So far, it's worked. Prices are usually on the lower end but is this quality gas? Not sure. As others have mentioned, the customer service is below average, and never have seen the same employee more than once. Though I do admit I rarely come here. I definitely would not trust using credit at pump or inside as there are some reviews mentioning identity theft.. So only just come here if you really have to, and I'd recommend paying cash to avoid any trouble. read more

I just went today to try to pump some gas here at this gas station but when I went inside to pay with card I noticed that the scanner looked of and I noticed that it had a CARD SKIMMER!! I started taking it off and I told the lady in the front that there is a card skimmer and I tried showing her and she started getting all defensive about it so I just left.Be careful people!!! read more

I went to this gas station last Monday. I handed the cashier 420s. I put 70 on the tank. I also bought a two dollar Powerball ticket with two dollars. I went out and pumped my gas $70. It was actually came up to 6475 something like that so I was owed, five dollars and some change plus the $10 that I never took for my change they were about to do a shift change. It was a black lady that took the money and the younger white girl was saying no we don't. It's only five and some change I'm like OK I'll tell you what, my phone number and give me a call back once you guys get it straightened out she told me Manager call me. No one never called me back today at 12 something today and they had attitude the same black lady and the same white girl made it seem like they can't do anything about it. The drawers didn't come over and that was it that they can't do anything about it and I said let me speak to a manager, so somebody on the phone I think her name was Candace. She told them to give me my $10. The white girl said $10 implying that I'm trying to steal $10 and never come back in here again. I'm open attention them right now because they're dishonest that black lady tried to steal my money and thought I wasn't gonna say nothing about it to check the camera I handed her 420s didn't get any change back. I put 70 on the tank does not be careful when you go into this place especially and I still need to talk to a manager because they disrespected me when they had to do was check the camera to see who was wrong and who was right I'm sure that's not the first time this happened with that lady!! I got gas there last night. Then I was checking my account for something & noticed the $40 they took them I see pending is $1.00 from them to be taken in a cpl days. Like what really? Why am I being charged a $1. I called & now I have to go there to show him what I'm talking abt. It's going to take $3.00 to get there. Like I will never use my card again at this station. Only extreme emergencies I find myself coming to this gas station and every time I regret it. Poor customer service. Gas pumps never work. Credit Card system down. Most importantly, credit card theft. There's a Shell gas station just down the way I will pick over Golden State but they also have the same issues as Golden State Gas Station. This place is a dump and very run down....you will find a bunch of low lifes here! The reason I give it 5 stars is because they have the cheapest gas in town. The welfare place is behind this station so beware! I have feared for my life before but its all in the name of paying less for gas. I recently forgot my credit card at this place. I freaked out when I noticed. I have been a victim of identity theft before and it sucks! Not at this place!! They kept the card secured and when I picked it up 2 days after they asked me for photo ID before handing it to me. That my friends its honesty. My fiance lives in Lemon Grove, so yes I have been to this gas station a few times. However, today I was there as part of a year long goal I have for myself to pick up Just1bag of trash per day to help create litter awareness. Good gas prices. Extremely rude cashier. When I attempted to tap my card she says "chip please". I asked if I could tap it as my chip doesn't work and she raises her voice at me just repeating "I SAID CHIP PLEASE". I was "banned" from this gas station by someone I assume was a manager. Whoever put this woman in charge of training employees for a customer service position made a mistake. I heard her tell the employee she was training that "they're on your time, you're not on theirs" in reference to the line of 5-6 customers that had formed while he spent 5+ minutes having a conversation with the woman in front of me and then another 3-4 minutes settling a 25 cent price discrepancy. Admittedly, I was upset by the fact that it took ten minutes just to get to the register to buy a bottle of soda and some gas, and I was very short in my communication. As someone who has 8 + years of experience in the retail/service field, I will be the first to admit that I was rude to the cashier. I was clearly bothered when I said that I didn't care about the 50 cent debit card charge, and when I walked outside I threw my receipt on the ground and got in the passenger seat of the car while my friend pumped the gas. That being said, you get what you put in, and it was obvious that no one cared if they upset customers or hindered their day. So when the woman who this company trusted to train their employees followed me outside and yelled at me about littering then called me a "b****," I told her she should learn how to properly train employees for customer service. She proceeded to open the passenger side door of the vehicle and threaten me with physical violence, and when my friend stepped between us, this woman's husband and who I assume were her children came over to the car and began to threaten us as well. I can't believe anyone would do this at their place of work, let alone that someone who would do that is the front line to the consumer. I work hard for my money and so does everyone who comes on yelp to review businesses. I figured I would put my experience out there so others can know what goes on in the places they spend their paychecks. I don't want to give mine to a company that appears to have a policy of "the customer doesn't matter" and allows its upper level employees to harass and threaten people who dare to have a reaction to the lack of service it provides. read more

There is a young woman with several piercings, that is rude and obnoxious! Went this afternoon against my better judgment. As is usual, she didn't punch in the right amount of how much gas I wanted,, then when I said I asked for $50.00 not $15.00, she doesn't bother to apologize, shrugs and says, "well your gas is already being pumped", turns her back on me and keeps singing to herself. So once the $15.00 was pumped, I went in again and was hit with another 50 cents charge on my card and was told it was my fault for not seeing what amount came up originally, of which I never came back at her and said well, by law you are required to ask for ID, which she never asks for whether Debit or Credit. Asked about a Manager, was directed to someone named David that didn't even bother to get up off the floor, just stated "I'm not a Manager". Seriously, the only thing Golden State Gas in Lemon Grove has going for it is Chris. He is friendly, polite, goes out of his way to be helpful. Apologizes should he not hear you but always repeats back to you what you have asked for. Unlike this young woman that you can never understand what she is saying and I suppose from now on, should I ever go back, will have to make sure that each and every charge is correct. If it weren't for Chris, I would never go back and would go on a serious campaign against this place. read more
