Golden Viet Thai Is a pretty okay option for Vietnamese or Thai food in Kingston. Pad Thai is very different than some of the others in town, and has a bit of heat to it. Other dishes are tasty as well, but the green curry seems to be more mild than expected. We loved the peanut sauce they put with the chicken satay, though! I think some of the other restaurant in towns suit my preferences better, but the atmosphere and service here are great. read more

Very disappointing. The pad thai was slimy and flavourless. The red curry would have been better on top of fries with cheese curds because it tasted like a bland chicken gravy. The spring rolls were okay but there are far better at other places in town. I won't be trying it again. read more

Came here on a Sunday night around 7pm for dinner, place was empty but decided to try It anyways. We ordered the shrimp salad roll & a rice dish however they (ran out of rice because it was so popular?) and opted for a beef noodle w/ vegetables instead. To be honest one of the worst tasting "viet / Thai" food that I have had. Super unauthentic because I believe it is owned & made by Chinese people. My shrimp roll was basically 95% white vermicelli with 3 shrimps that were sliced in halves and a big piece of lettuce ... all I tasted was white bland noodles. The sauce they gave was very thin and runny (I think water mixed with hoisin sauce?) I didn't know it was possible to have a viet salad roll gone wrong.. The beef noodle was verrry basic at most, very little beef pieces and 50% random vegetables mixed into the noodle. Tasted very much like something out of a food court.. if you are used to the typical and authentic Thai / Viet food you will be highly disappointed with it here. But it seems like Kingston doesn't have much viet/Thai restaurants to compare to. read more

This place has a brisk take out business and is popular given its downtown location. Solid vietnamese/chinese cuisine and a vermicelli bowl with peanuts, spring rolls and beef which rivals the infamous #6 at Saigon delights. The pad thai is tasty but heavy. Do not come here for Pho. It's basically meat, bean sprouts and noodles in a bowl of hot water, not slow cooked beef broth Pho style. When I explained that it's not pho without the broth, the guy looked perplexed as it is very popular here. I suppose if you never had Pho before you wouldn't know the difference. We regularly stay at the Four Points in downtown Kingston and wanted to try something different. This was surprisingly excellent Thai food for really cheap. We had beef rolls, green curry beef, rice and grilled chicken (32) and it came to 26.00 with tax and delivery. The portions were huge - more than enough food for two people. Some of the worst Thai / Viet food I've had. The service though almost made up for it if it wasn't for the fact that our whole group felt nauseous after. We had a big group so we decided to really sample the menu and really there wasn't a single dish that I've rate at being better than "meh" and there were a few dishes that really were inedible and left untouched at the end of the night (mainly the Beef with Lemongrass - it looked like regurgitated beef strips plopped on a piece of lettuce). The curries are all extremely watered down and tasteless and the noodle dishes are just a mound of noodles with a few tiny sliver of meat. The fresh rolls don't actually have anything in them except vermicelli (where's the flavour?). And I'm pretty sure the dipping sauce they gave to me was used before (there were already pieces of vermicelli in the bowl - probably from a previous dipping). However the place is run by extremely nice people who were really accommodating. They made sure to deal with all of our food requests and substitude anything we wanted and when they were out of coconut water, they ran out into the and bought a can from somewhere for us. It's not a place I'd ever return to but for the sake of the owners and the hard work they put into the place, I hope they can produce something of better quality. read more

Awful experience! Red curry shrimp was inedible. Picture a bowl filled with a can of bamboo shoots swimming in watery coconut milk mixed with a bit of red curry paste and 4 small shrimp on top with a side of white rice. It was so bad I could not eat any of it. All I could taste were bamboo shoots and no other flavour. I politely returned the food, and when the chef/owner asked what was wrong, I was polite but honest about the meal. He said the red curry is his "most popular dish" and that was it. He did not offer me anything else or even discount our bill in any way (which would have at least been a token of good customer service). I do not recommend eating here! read more

I loved this place, and am very sad that I only found it in Year 6 of my 6 years in Kingston. I am allergic to peanuts, and Golden Viet Thai was the first place I could order Pad Thai! Later I discovered I was allergic to fish sauce so I can't eat it anymore, but they were very accommodating about not putting fish sauce in my food, and even double-checked once to make sure I was ordering the right dish. I particularly liked their green chicken curry with peppers. read more

We decided to get take-out from this restaurant since our go-to for Thai food in Kingston is closed on Sundays. It was very disappointing. The pad thai had only 2 shrimp and was flavourless. The tom yum soup was inedible. The grilled chicken tasted like an over-salted soy product. The other dish we ordered was not as described on the on-line menu in any way. The menu described a red curry with shrimp. What we got (labelled with the correct number) was green curry with chicken. All of the food had overtones of play-dough. We are avid Thai food enthusiasts, but no one in our family enjoyed their food. read more

I was passing through Kingston and had heard a lot about this place. Stopped by for lunch and was not disappointed. Was recommended to try their spring rolls (Absolutely Fantastic) and the Red Curry (Even Better!). Portions were huge! Food was very fresh! Easily one of if not the best thai red curry dishes and spring rolls I have ever had. The service was really above and beyond. Extremely friendly and quick. And the price was ridiculously cheap for what I got. The portions would have been enough for 2, but the food was so good I ate it all myself! A must visit. Highly recommended. I spent 12 years in Toronto and tried pretty much every Thai and Vietnamese place there. I've been trying the same now that I live in Kingston. So far this place is the most disappointing. There's just no flavour, most dishes are mushy, and everything had so much cabbage! pad Thai very acidic, curries bland, and I had to throw the beef fresh roll out (it's rare that I can't actually finish something, it was that bad). read more

Me and the guys at work wanted to eat out and felt hungry for some Thai food. One of my co-workers heard good things about this restaurant, but once we got there, I was not impressed. The restaurant is a small establishment with decor that seems to be bought from the dollar store. I was surprised that I had to purchase green tea, while most places in Toronto offer it for free. This is very inauthentic - pad Thai was swimming Ina runny brown sauce. Tasted like a Chinese chef trying to simulate Thai.

Surprisingly unappealing. Had difficulties from the get go when it came to ordering over the phone. Was never told how much the total was going to be and when I asked how long it would take I was told "30 minutes or whenever the driver left". While it did take a reasonable 45 minutes, when the food arrived it was bland, borderline inedible. The Green Curry was bland and the sautéed noodles were soggy and flavourless. To add to this, even the steamed rice seemed dry and off. This is the first time in my life I have ever not been able to finish a meal due to the taste. I've always wondered what type of food would make someone write a negative review, I now know. read more
