Visited Goldeneye Winery during Pinot Fest 2021. They offered a nice wine and cheese pairing, and the grounds were beautiful. Our server had information for us about each of our wines and cheeses, and they all went together nicely. The wines were not much to our liking however, but we did only try pinots, so cannot comment on other types. We did buy a bottle of Pinot, but it was mostly out of courtesy. read more

Four of us visited here on a Friday in August and we had an exceptional experience. The winery "garden" area offers a spectacular view of the estate vinyards and the forested hills beyond. Our tasting experience host was both attentive and non obtrusive. The location demanded exceptional wines, and they did not disappoint. We are very familiar with virtually all of the great Pinot noir being bottled in the Sonoma County area and the Goldeneye pinots stand with the best of them. This was our second visit to Goldeneye, after the first visit we joined the wine club! Their pinots are just amazing, some of the best we've ever tasted. We had a wonderful tasting with Alexis. They have a lot less seating right now due to COVID, but we didn't feel rushed at all during our stay. We came a little early, at 11:30, and the weather was really cool and pleasant. I was impressed with their service already even before we arrived. We ran into extremely bad long weekend traffic so I called Goldeneye asking if possible to change the reservation, they were very accommodating and changed our table to 90mins later. We ended up arriving 20mins earlier than expected, and was greeted with refreshing rose while they prepared our table, and we got seated within 10mins. I highly recommend their elevated tasting experience, the food paring was very well selected and went really well with each wine. We're both huge Pinot Noir, which Goldeneye specializes in, we loved most of the wines, but their "10 degrees" Pinot is a show stopper! Worth owning for a special occasion. The tasting area has a great view of the vineyards, the garden and blooming flowers add a touch of romance especially on a nice day. A great place for wine sipping with friends or significant other. Taste of Confluence is a must tasting experience! Here from Seattle and we met Doug, who spent the afternoon with us. Such a great experience, getting on the ATV up to the oldest, largest Oak tree - where we tasted through the Confluence wines. Ending the tasting down with a view of the vineyards. Doug is so knowledgeable about the wines and the whole region. Favorites were the Hillside, Lower Bench, and Brut Rose was amazing! I wish we lived closer so we could visit often. Never have I ever gone to this winery and be disappointed. The service is impeccable and the ambiance is phenomenal. The vineyard behind the winery is simply majestic. Came here for an afternoon tasting ($20) of their high end Pinot Noirs. I'd gander that an average price point here is about $45/ bottle, moving on up, like George J. Wonderfully printed cards to explain the terroir (photo), and the notes of the kind of Pinot one is drinking. In large part, most of wines sampled are complex, have notes of pepper and higher tannic levels than I prefer. But the grounds!! the beautiful, lovely, meditative grounds... and walking through the vineyard to behold the centuries old black oak tree agains the hill. Not snooty. Explained and answered many of my questions. A staid presence of "excess within control" (anyone can name the classic?). Just gorgeous. Glad we U turned and made the stop, before heading to Husch and Navarro. PS spotted their Migration PN at Lunardis Danville and BevMo as well. read more

I have always been such a fan of the Pinots, so naturally joined the wine membership through the Duckhorn family awhile back. Fast forward to this weekend, my boyfriend planned a proposal at the gorgeous estate. Could not have been a more perfect moment. Being Portfolio members, we're already very familiar with Goldeneye wines, but this was our first time ever making the trek up to Philo. Every bottle of Goldeneye from our shipments or that we've tasted at Paraduxx and Duckhorn have been amazing, so we didn't expect anything less. It was nice to be able to taste in their outdoor patio, overlooking the vineyard. It was rather quiet at 11am, and filled up slightly during our visit, but it was never crowded. Our tasting included 6 wines. Unfortunately, because of the nature of Goldeneye, there weren't many additional bottles open for us to taste. However, their inventory did include some wines that we had not yet tried, so we decided to take a gamble and purchase those. The drive up to Philo was not the easiest, and thankfully it was a dry, sunny day, but now we know what makes it so special. The Pinots cannot be matched elsewhere. It's no wonder they have a Pinot festival every year! If only we heard about the festival earlier, we would try to make it, but nearby lodging books up a year in advanced. The tasting room staff was kind enough to accommodate us even though I had made the reservation for the wrong day. They put out one of the most informative, well designed tastings I've seen. Each wine was served on a coaster that had detailed information about the wine, including down to the date the grapes were harvested. We sat outside on the patio and the staff did a great job of answering questions when we has them but for the most part leaving us alone to enjoy the wine and the setting. I'm taking away one star because of the price. Anderson Valley is my favorite place to go wine tasting because it is low key, unpretentious and they have delicous wine. The prices at Goldeneye feel like a little bit of Napa creeping in. read more

Came up here for my birthday weekend. I had visited Duckhorn before in Napa and loved their wines so I was looking forward to trying one of their partner wineries. We made reservations prior for a cheese plate added in and sat outside which overlooked the beautiful vineyards and fountain. They are mostly known for their pinots given the area and they are delicious. The staff was very friendly and attentive which made the experience very enjoyable. Part of the Duckhorn Wine Company (as is Paraduxx in Napa), Goldeneye produces world-class Pinot Noirs. It was the first stop of our Anderson Valley wine tour, and is absolutely not to be missed. The grounds are immaculate, and the scenery is so picturesque - perfect for a dream wedding. The tasting room is situated inside a Craftsman bungalow that is so gorgeous you wish you could live there. We enjoyed our tastings in the lovely courtyard garden, and easily spent an hour there. Had we not had 5 other appointments to get to, we probably could have stayed there for several hours, enjoying the beautiful view of the vineyards and rolling hills while having their excellent Pinots. We did the enhanced tasting, and I fell in love with the Ten Degrees. Unfortunately, at $100/bottle, I couldn't bring myself to purchasing one. I loved that each wine came with tasting notes, which was very informative. The staff was super nice and attentive, and really took the time to educate us about the wines. Goldeneye really set the bar high for AV wineries, but fortunately, it wasn't the only one that impressed us. Can't wait to go back! read more

My 300th review is dedicated to Goldeneye.The best looking tasting room in the Valley and the best tasting Pinot Noir I have had in a long time. Before arriving here, I had the James Bond song "Goldfinger" in my head and I was tempted to scream it out during the tasting. Thankfully, I managed to squash the urge. The $5 tasting fee includes a sit-down tasting at a long table inside a Craftsman bungalow and gorgeous views of the vineyards and two Pinot tastings with cheese, almonds, and berries. Considering that the other surrounding wineries do not charge a fee, the $5 could have been either applied to the purchase. So minus one star. We absolutely loved the 2005 Goldeneye Pinot ($55) and we purchased a bottle. One of our favorite wineries to date and we will definitely return for more of that delicious Pinot. read more

This was my least favorite winery of the ones we visited and yet it still gets three stars. I really enjoyed wine tasting in the Anderson Valley, obviously. My honey and split the two flights (one at $5 and one at $10) as recommended by the woman who greeted us. We were escorted out to the patio seating which has gorgeous views of a vineyard and surrounding forests. The woman helping us was nice and answered our questions but then disappeared after giving us our second flight and handing us the (unasked for) paperwork to join their wine club. They weren't very busy so I was surprised that we had to flag down one of the other two women working in order to pay our tasting fee so we could leave. Compared to the other wineries we visited, the service just wasn't as warm and friendly here. Pinot Noir is one of my favorite varietals and their Pinot Noirs are good. But $65 - $75 a bottle good? When on thinks of California Pinot Noir, they usually equate it to light and fruity wine that pairs with seafood, chicken or other like dishes. However, the Anderson Valley is home to a whole different kind of Pinot. Goldeneye is classic Anderson Valley, big structured, earthy that can stand up to some of your more hearty dishes. If you are a fan of French Burgundy then you will fall in love with Goldeneye. Their wine is world class and the tasting experience is among the best I have ever had. You are assigned a table, and sat down to a flight of pinot noir and given a education in the art of wine making. Reservations are not mandatory, but recommended especially if you want to maximize your tasting experience. FYI, the wine here is on the pricey side but we did join their wine club as it does include access to other wineries (Including Duckhorn) and offers free shipping with any order. read more

Goldeneye makes the best wine in the Anderson Valley. Don't take my word for it, they say it themselves! Seriously though, the wine here is indeed excellent. The grounds are very pretty too. So why only 3 stars? 1. $15 tasting fee that isn't waived if you buy a bottle. By Anderson Valley standards, that's 100% BS. We ain't in Napa (thank god)! 2. It has that big corporation feel. Ok, it probably isn't a big corporation, but compared to the other wineries in the area, it is. 3. Most of Goldeneye's wines are overpriced IMO. 4. They require an appointment for groups. If you're going wine tasting in the Anderson Valley, please do not feel obligated to go here. There are much more friendly, interesting places to visit. Sure, their wines might not match Goldeneye's, but the experiences they will provide will vastly surpass this place. read more

The pinot noirs made here are superlative. Smooth, fruit forward, richly flavored, & elegant. And the best bottles cost $75, so this quality does not come cheap. The backyard tasting patio shows one of the prettiest vineyards in the world. I live in Kenwood that has 24 wineries within a 4 mile radius of my house. Yet I make an effort to annually visit this winery on the back roads of Mendocino county because the wine is so good. This place is a "mecca" destination for Pinot Noir lovers. read more

as members of paraduxx, we had heard a lot about goldeneye from staff at both paraduxx and duckhorn, and were so excited to check out the winery. the grounds were beautiful and serene - seeing the mountains covered in fog and the vineyards were warm and sunny. however our experience was underwhelming to say the least. the staff was very rigid with tastings, unwilling to let us try anything on the menu that wasn't part of the tasting flight. the woman who helped us didn't bother explaining what we were tasting, origins, or anything. it felt incredibly commercial and robotic, which is opposite of our experience with the rest of the portfolio locations in california and washington. would encourage management to train your staff up more on customer service, especially for those who are wine club members read more

Being a part of the Duckhorn family of wineries, Goldeneye exudes a very Napa-esque vibe compared to the more down-to-earth destinations that far and away dominate the region. As such, the estate is beautiful with a stunning view of the surrounding vineyards and hills...and prices to match. Though there was a premium to be paid, it was very much worth it as the staff took excellent care of us. Noticing that the nose and taste of the pinots was being dampened by the sweltering heat outside, our host was gracious enough to have us move inside and revisit whichever wines we liked. My friends and I also appreciated her pouring some of the reserve pinot to contrast it from the current vintage. So while the wines were quite good overall with some justifying the steep price point more than others, it was a top notch tasting experience overall and well worth trying. read more

Don't let that dissuade you. The best views and outdoor setting in all of Anderson Valley. RRV style. Incredible Pinots. Some of my very favorite. Just a tad over priced. Disclosure: Portfolio Club members (still) This was our second visit to Goldeneye, and it was everything we remembered from our first visit and more! What is the "more" you ask? Well, I shall tell you, it is the wines -- the 2007 Pinots across the board -- from the Migration (at the lower price point) to the Anderson Valley Pinot (at the midpoint of $55 or so) to the single vineyard estates, Confluence, Gowan Creek and Narrows (at the high point of $90 or so) -- each has it's own characteristics and flavor profiles, yet in their own way each are so much more than you can hope for in a Pinot. We had the wine & cheese paring which included four well-chosen cheese to play up the strengths of each wine, and you could see how some pairing just don't work, even as similar as some of the wines were to each other when you taste just the wine. Well done & well worth the time! We also enjoyed the starting glass of Migration Chardonnay -- a wonderful full-bodied lightly oaked Chardonnay with a crisp finish. You can't get it at stores, only at the wineries or on-line. We also a glass of the Vin Gris, the Pinot Noir Rose -- fruity and crisp, with no sweetness. Again -- a winery or on-line as long as it lasts wine. Views and setting are impeccable -- you couldn't paint a prettier backdrop for a wine tasting. Great service, with much attention to detail. Goldeneye by far had the most beautiful scenery during our wine tour of Mendocino. I could have sat in their backyard for hours. Also was the only place I went to with a seated tasting, which included a $10 and $15 option. My husband and I split the 4 pinot noir tasting + bonus rose tasting. Their pinots didn't have a large range in prices, which was too bad for our empty-ish wallets, but we did leave with a sub-$30 rose that we still agreed was one of the better ones we tried in Mendocino. The two women we spoke with were super nice and knowledgeable. Although the prices comparatively are higher than the other spots we visited, we are definitely glad we stopped by Goldeneye for the experience and the exquisite wines. read more
