My wife and I visited on a Thursday afternoon for our Anniversary this Summer. It was our first time and we loved it. We were pleasantly surprised with the unique and tasty ways they approached Pinots. The outdoor tasting area we used was comfortable and had a wonderful view of the foothills across the street. Our pourer was friendly and informative and spent time answering our questions. Check this place out when you're in Anderson Valley!

Wow ! Great wines and pairing. My wife booked this winery and I was amazed how great their wines were. I really liked the white Pinot. The wines and pairing was outside and the location was very nice. The owner Doug explains the wines and was very nice . I enjoyed all the wines . My wife and I really were amazed of the views and hospitality. We ended up joining their wine club. Some times when visiting wineries you run into a hidden gem. Look no more it is here.

Hubby and I came during white wine weekend, so they were offering salmon tartlets with their tastings. It was very tasty! We had a nice relaxing time here. We were able to bring our dog inside the tasting room, but they also have an outdoor area with some seating as well.

In hindsight, we should have known waking up early after a long and fun wedding night was too ambitious! Luckily the staff at Pennyroyal Farm took care of us regardless of our tired and delayed souls! Shoutout to Bonnie and Steph!!! - PARKING - Dedicated lot with plenty of spots - no need to worry about scarce parking here. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - They have several merch items and cheeses/foods for sale in their main room. You can see tastings being done inside, but our group was stationed outside in a nice shaded area under some umbrellas. There are actually several seating arrangements outside, all covered! We started with the farm tour, seeing how the grapes are grown and then exploring the animals' living areas. The tour really put into perspective how much goes into the cultivation of their cheeses and wines, which makes you appreciate the tastings even more! The boards were beautifully presented, and the wines/juices were amazing paired with them! There wasn't one wine/juice/cheese that I didn't enjoy! - OVERALL - An amazing spot for a wine/cheese tour! The staff here are so welcoming and I had an amazing time, despite the lack of sleep we got. Truly grateful for them being so accommodating, and will highly recommend this place for anyone that plans to visit the area!

Most of the wines we tasted we liked some more than others. But their pinot noirs are definitely my personal favorites. This winery was recommended by someone who used to be or is in their wine club. So much so, that I actually preferred their white wine selection over their reds. Yes, indeed! Philo Ridge Vineyards is a cozy tasting room located in downtown Booneville right off of Highway 128. They offer a variety of different wines including Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and so on. The tasting room itself is smaller than all of the other tasting rooms that I went to while wine tasting in Booneville. However, I could tell that this tasting room was extremely popular amongst the locals by how busy it was. Unfortunately, it can get a bit cramped and this is what happened when I arrived for my tasting. Nevertheless, the majority of the wines that I tasted were exceptional! Let me just say that Jill is an absolute Doll! Although she was basically swamped, she was able to assist us with a smile and poise. Her vivid descriptions and passion around the wines that she presented really shined through. I feel like it made me enjoy the wines even more. The cheese bread that they were serving didn't hurt either! I didn't get the name of the bread or even what cheese that it was made with, but it tasted yummy even while cold. Now to the best part... those wines! I tasted their 2014 Ferrington Vineyard Gewurztraminer, 2014 Nelson Vineyard Pinot Gris, 2014 Nelson Ranch Viognier, 2012 Marguerite Vineyard Pinot Noir, and their 2011 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. I'm a love of Pinot Noir and although I liked the Pinots here, I wouldn't exactly call them my favorites. As I previously mentioned, the standouts here were their lovely whites! The Pinot Gris was light and fruity with the most fragrant pear aroma. I also really enjoyed the Viognier which had a very enjoyable floral taste with delicious notes of peaches and apricots. However, the torch goes to that Gewurztraminer! YEEESSS! Gimme some more of that goodness, mmm! The tropical fruits and crispness could be tasted from start to finish. If you love wines that are light, crisp, and full of floral and tropical notes, then this wine is definitely for you! It's the perfect wine to sip on a warm summer day. All in all, I wouldn't mind coming back to Philo Ridge to do another tasting. However, I would try to go during their off-peak hours to get a more intimate experience.

When I first heard that they were known for their Chardonnay, I slightly cringed. Chardonnay is probably my least favorite wine and in my mind, I initially thought that the wines here just weren't going to be for me... and then, there was Michelle. I have to give it up to Michelle! She was super interactive and entertaining. She totally proved me wrong by exposing me to a Chardonnay that was actually tolerable for my taste buds! As soon as she took the bottle out, I noticed that a few other people cringed right along with me at first. She mentioned that she loved pouring this for red wine drinkers who aren't into Chardonnays. She poured me their 2013 Family Chardonnay which was unusually light with a minimal amount of oak. It was probably one of the only Chardonnays that I've tried where it didn't taste super oaky. She explained that this was due to their use of steel barrels for aging. I have to say, I was really impressed. How could she get this Pinot Noir girl to actually like a Chardonnay? Not sure how she did it, but she did. Not saying that I have converted, but I am definitely way more open minded than I was before. Their 2013 Grand Reserve Syrah tasted phenomenal! It was bold and in your face which a bit of a kick in the finish. I can definitely see why their Syrah was award winning. They also make jams here and I believe that one couple actually purchased one. The tasting room is lovely! It's filled with antique furniture and vintage artwork that gives the room a very retro feel. Michelle's father was also an artist and his original pieces can also be found in their tasting room as well as on some of their wine bottles. They have a shaded outside deck that can be used for lounging outside, but it's pretty small and has limited space for only a few people. Michelle does a wonderful job in educating and entertaining her guests at the tasting bar. You can definitely tell that she is a natural at what she does. I would highly recommend wine tasting here if you are in the area and if you like Chardonnay and Syrah!

Guy provided very detailed directions to make sure we didn't get lost and double checked to make sure we were good. We arrived at "the cottage" a bit before noon and we greeted with some bubbly paired with warm donut holes. Five minutes in and I felt like we'd known these guys for years. We chat for a bit, drink for a bit, then hop in the ATV up to the top of the ridge to soak in the entire Anderson Valley. Amazing views. The tasting was heavy on the whites (Chard, Sav. Blanc., a great blend called the Dance) which made my wife very happy after the Pinot fest that is most AV tastings. Then he dropped their Pinot on us and wow! I asked about bringing a picnic and was told not to bother, they'd have a few things to nosh on. And boy did they deliver! Chorizo and gigante beans, pepper & goat cheese from Pennyroyal, and some salmon & cucumber. We headed back down, tasted another Pinot with grapes sourced from Weir that was spectacular, and then went over to the barn to see their collection of vintage cars. If they did a club, I'd be signed up. But I know that a stop at F&D will be mandatory for every trip I ever take to Mendo / Anderson Valley from here on out. Take note that they do not charge for tastings to then pressure you into buying bottles to waive the fee. Why? I think it's either because they're just really kind (they are) or they are so confident in the quality of the wine that they don't bother with the facade. Either way, don't miss visiting Fathers & Daughters the next time you're in the area...unless it's the day I'm planning to go and you steal my time!
