I always have the best luck looking for beauty/hair/skin recommendations on Yelp. Restaurants, not so much. But ladies can be brutally honest about beauty services, so I always start here and this time was another diamond! I landed on Goldenseal Skincare after reading the reviews. I was in serious need of self-care, so my Valentines Day gift to myself was an hour and a half facial with Tarren. I found her cute space conveniently located right next to Scout's parking lot in MB. Helpful if you need/want something awesome from Scout. You know when you meet someone, you just know? Well, that's Tarren. Calm, soft-spoken, thoughtful, and knowledgeable about her craft, I immediately liked her. My facial was perfect and I especially loved that there was no product pushing. At all. Friends and family I'd like to tell you about Tarren and this true gem located in San Luis Obispo. First off I just turned 40 and have never had a facial treatment in my life, I was for sure missing out. The treatment began with a Rune reading to set the path of the whole treatment and I chose constraint which was very true in my current state of life events. It turned out my skin wasn't all that bad so the service went as planned and the herbal smudge ball (might be called something else, sorry Tarren) felt amazing. Tarren has a lot of local products for sale in her shop that helps the local economy. After the reading and facial I honestly felt like a weight had been lifted off me and I can't thank Tarren enough. I absolutely adore Tarren, and so look forward to monthly facials with her! She recently relocated her practice up the street, and the new space is beautiful. I like to arrive a little early just to hang out on the deck in the sun. Tarren is very intuitive, and you can tell she puts a lot of consideration into all aspects of her work. She uses extremely high-quality, herbal-based natural skin care products, and her technique is flawless. You haven't lived until you've experienced the poultice-ing - it's my favorite part! She alters the herbs and products she uses based on how my skin might be presenting that day, which I really appreciate as someone with very sensitive, reactive skin. She also helped me transform my skin care routine, and now I can't live without the Honua cleansing cream (it's pink and smells like roses) and the Laurel gentle mask. Facials here are truly a mind-body experience: my skin absolutely glows when I leave, and I also feel so calm afterwards as well. Walking into Goldenseal feels stepping into a dream. From the gorgeous hardwood floors to the dozens of healthy and unique cacti and houseplants enveloped in bright, natural light - it's impossible to not be instantly relaxed. Tarren, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable on skin and the right products to use. When I first got there she offered me tea or water. She even has CBD tincture for the tea! We chatted a bit about my skin care needs (super dry skin) and she asked me my regular routine. We moved into the spa room where I got a hydrating CBD facial and underarm sugaring. The CBD facial was about 2 weeks ago and my skin has never been more hydrated. During my treatment, I realized most of the products she was using were edible. I instantly noticed how much better the plant-based products felt on my skin than the typical products I buy. I thought I was doing right by my skin by using high end skincare from beauty counters at the department stores. I never want to put Clinique or Mario Bedescu on my face again. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this facial changed the way I will take care of my skin. Tarren educated me on how the products I use have preservatives in them that make them last for years on a shelf. Compared to the Laurel and Botnia product Tarren used on my face, I now realize how synthetic the products I've been using smell and feel. If you haven't tried hair removal sugaring before, I highly recommend it! Tarren's sugar smells like straight honey and it lasted longer for me than my typical underarm wax. Overall, I would recommend Goldenseal to anyone who is looking to heal their skin or learn helpful tools to maintain a healthy glow. Since my facial, a couple friends have commented on my glow! As a fellow esthetician, you don't know you needed a facial till you get one. I forget how relaxing it is to be on the other side of the treatment! Tarren is amazing and extremely welcoming, her space showcases that. It was definitely an experience and I can't wait for the next time I can have her take care of me again! I haven't been that relaxed in months and I felt like her every move was very intentional. If you're able to get an appointment in with Tarren, I would highly recommend doing so. This review is WELL overdue, however, I still wanted to share my experience. I saw Tarren in December 2019 for my very first facial, ever in life. I've never fussed with my skin prior. My routine is simple: no makeup (I became allergic to alcohol-based products in 2017) and wash my face once a day with over the counter stuff from Target, no particular preference, no moisturizer afterwards, etc. But as I get older I started noticing increasing sensitivities and acne due to improper care and not being able to adjust to what my skin was telling me. Enter Tarren and her amazing place and services. I felt so comfortable and safe (remember, my first time doing this, ever) and she was so thorough, talking me through everything she was doing & using. I didn't have to worry about alcohol-based products, we covered that up front & none of what was used included it. In fact, it felt fantastic! I hadn't felt so relaxed in such a long time and my skin hadn't glowed or felt so great! After my appointment, we also quickly talked about products she offered in-store that could be helpful for me at home. Where do I start? First off the space is very welcoming and cozy. Tarren is an amazing esthetician. She is very knowledgeable about skin issues and gives great advice on how to properly take care of your skin. I love that she offers the sugaring wax which is less harsh. I fell in love with this place as soon as I walked in. Very cozy and cleansing. I had a facial(for the first time ever) and eyebrow/lip wax. The facial was so relaxing and felt wonderful. I rarely take the time to write and post reviews on these sites but I decided to make an exception: my 90-minute organic facial with Terran was hands down the best facial I have ever had. The facial itself was super relaxing and enjoyable. The physical space she designed really contributes to the overall experience -- it has an awesome energy and feel to it. Tarren is incredibly knowledgable, passionate about what she does, and just fun to talk to. Over the past few years, I have gotten dozens of facials, tried countless high-end skincare products and regimens, gone to different estheticians, dermatologists, naturopaths, etc. (I'm trying to make up for years of traveling/living in harsh climates while completely neglecting my skin). I have really struggled to find any natural products or remedies that are compatible with my skin. My skin has responded incredibly well to the natural, plant-based product line Terran uses. Since my facial a few weeks ago, I've gone completely makeup-less. My skin looks and feels amazing. My good friend went to Terran for a facial last week. Even though we have different skin-types and needs, she was equally blown away and feels that her skin has responded just as positively as mine has. We are SO glad we found Tarren!!! I started going to Tarren in January to prepare my skin for my wedding in June. The facials that I had done in the past (with someone else) were very harsh so I was hesitant to try again but I'm so glad I did! The first two sessions were a little too rough for my skin but I told Tarren how I felt and she gladly made adjustments. Now my skin is the best it's ever been! Sometimes it takes awhile to see results, I started seeing them after my third/fourth session so stick with it! Tarren is lovely and sweet. When I first came to get a facial, I was charmed by the space. It feels light and airy with lots of sunlight and greenery. Every time I visit for any service, I feel comfortable and at home in many ways, nearly to the point that I never want to leave. I love her crystal vibes and super neat tall triangle display shelf too! Tarren is a sweetheart and truly cares about her quality of service as well as her clients personal needs and comforts. I get facials from her regularly and my skin has been the best it's ever been after many many years of finding the right treatments and regiments. She is also extremely knowledgeable in organic and plant based skincare and is always happy to answer my many (sometimes too many) questions about what I should use and what I should not use. She never tries to over sell me on any product, and is constantly working with my skin and trying new treatments or products on me that she thinks will cater to the needs of my skin in that current state. Meaning she is never stagnant or repetitive and always keeping my skin current. I love her cannabinoid facials. These have truly gotten rid of very small red bumps that have appeared in the recent years about my nose and eyes. Nothing has worked until these treatments and for that I am truly loyal and grateful. She is also one of the few people in the Bay Area that offered sugaring which is an amazing replacement to classic waxing. My skin is super sensitive and always gets ingrown. I had a facial with Tarren yesterday and this morning my skin is soft and lovely! This experience was different from prior facials. Tarren wanted to know about my skin - what was my acne history like, what products do I currently use, what is my skin care routine, etc. She then hand-mixed the products to be used during the facial based on what I told her and what she saw on my skin, explaining what she was adding to the mixture and why. I've been going to Tarren for years. I think her best quality is being able to tailor the experience to your specific needs. I usually just get my Brazilians done by her. ($65) Which are fantastic. She's super cool and comfortable to be around so you don't feel as awkward during the service. She also got me hooked on sugaring, ask her about it. Her facials are to die for and 100% worth the money. ($140) She has a good knowledge of how to treat different skin types and can give recommendations on your personal daily regimen. I love her new studio! The atmosphere is stylish and comfy. There's nice ambient music and smells and plants. The minute you walk in you start to feel more relaxed. I just got a little starter kit of Botnia products that she carries. ($100: face wash/toner/hydrating serum/ face lotion/ hydrating mask/ body lotion) Sickening deal. They are all organic and made by a local esthetician who Tarren has worked with for a while. Tarren, you are my skin's savior! I've been using skincare that admittedly I should'nt be using and it's wreaking havoc on my face and left acne in its wake. I've tried different creams, lotions, serums from brand names which promised to be soothing, calming, and gentle but none of them worked. I was at a lost until I found Goldenseal. I had my doubts because it's been months without relief. Tarren is kind and gentle. Her hands massaged my face with Botnia products which instantly felt amazing. No products with hyaluronic acid felt that way previously, I would feel a burning sensation right away. But not with the Botnia products my skin was craving that level of moisture. Tarren knew exactly what my skin needed, she is very knowledgable about her products and uses them wisely! My skin feels incredible despite washing my face last night, most facials don't have those kind of lasting effects .
