I bought my 2005 Crown Victoria from Bob Karl's and the process was friendly and easy. I was given…read morethe keys and took the car out for a test drive by myself. I liked it. Took a few days to mull it over then went back and bought it. I've had it for over two years now and I've taken it back to the service department for state inspections and oil changes. It hasn't needed anything else. They really go through it to to bottom before selling it. And this car is 17 years old. The service department is great. They don't add on extra things wrong like some other service department or try to up their cash flow by recommending things you don't need like a lot of quick oil change places do. This is the honest mechanic I've been looking for. All in all I'm really happy with the Bob Karl experience. When this car eventually dies, I'll definitely be back to buy another. I'd give ten stars if I could. Extremely highly recommended!

So far I've had to have the brake lines, portion of the fuel line, quick disconnect, fuel evac hose and solenoid, transmission pressure sensor replaced and a rebuilt differential installed. I also replaced the passenger side mirror. So now I have a 16 year old car that I've had to put about another $5000 in repairs. Later I found out that Carfax listed the car as a total lose. My bad for not checking sooner. Bob says he doesn't get Carfax because of a bad experience. I once asked him via email if he would have bought the car had he gotten the Carfax. I didn't get a reply. Bottom line, I have a 16 year old car that's cost me about $11,000.

May 2025 my car's check engine light went on. I brought it in and since I had an ODB reader I told them the code. They re-read it anyway and charged me labor. I didn't get the car back for days (they blamed the parts guy). Then when I pick it up, and was about two blocks away from their shop, the check engine light went on again and so did the overheat alarm. I went right back, they were already closed up. So I had to wait a couple more days to get my car back (they're closed on weekends). Turns out they didn't burp it properly. My coolant was low the next time I got an oil change (somewhere else) February 2026. Fast forward... May 2026, the coolant is low again and the check engine light went on. When I dropped the car off I left an explicit note with the code, said to not to read it again (if it would be an extra fee) and that it is leaking coolant please fix that. Did they fix the leak? Nope! They replaced an unrelated part (that may or may not have even been broken how would I know?) and never checked for a leak because they "didn't see anything". Just over two weeks later the car is trailing coolant forcing me to take it somewhere else and pay a premium (over the holiday weekend) to get it repaired. I'll never go here again and you shouldn't either.

If you're looking to get any work done to your vehicle this is the best shop you could bring it to, it will be done right and affordable every time. I'd like to take time to share a story about the BEST service I have ever received ANYWHERE, at any…read morebusiness I have ever been to.   I live in San Diego, California.  My 23-year-old daughter lives in Boston, and was visiting Troy, NY. to attend to professional and personal business with a couple of girlfriends.   She drives a 2012 Honda CRV, and was using her car to travel on this occasion, and ran into some issues with the front bumper/undercarriage, which was causing some pieces to hang down and drag on the street.  By the time she saw what was happening, she was already in Troy, and far from home.  The car was close to immobile at this point, but she happened to be only about 2 miles (surface streets) from Rensselaer Honda.  After seeing the pictures, she sent me, I thought a nice slow drive could get her to the dealership without further damage, but the car would NOT have been able to be driven any further, let alone on the highway back to Boston.  Her reliable Honda CRV was down, and she was essentially stranded.   My daughter made a quick call to the Rensselaer Honda service department, but they did not have any appointment slots to get her in today.  This was very short notice on our part, and it was understandable that this was the case.  She also didn't really explain the gravity of the situation (being out of town); so they could not get her in immediately.   So, she called me.  As a Dad, especially with my kid being so far from home, you can imagine how worried and helpless I felt.  I decided to give them a call and explain the situation, and I am glad I did.   I spoke to Jason Foster, and started to explain the situation to him, and before I could finish, he told me as a Dad to a couple of daughters himself, he understood my concern and would take care of the whole situation.  Jason assured me he would get her squeezed in, and her car fixed so she could travel home safely.  I was told to have her come see him directly, and I had nothing to worry about.  He took down my number and promised me he would contact me with a 'Dad report' after the issue was fixed.   My daughter was a bit panicked and in tears by the time I called her back and told her to drive directly to the dealership and ask for Jason, which she did immediately.  She told me he was waiting for her, and got her car in right away, and promptly fixed the issue.  She texted me that he was super great, her car was back to normal, and she was on her way again.   As promised, Jason reached out to me, and he said everything was fixed and I had nothing to worry about.   I cannot thank him enough for not only providing the best service I have ever had, but also being a great person and empathizing with our situation.  This whole thing could've turned out to be much worse if she was not able to get back on the road again.   I'd like to reiterate here that I was just starting my west coast workday, and with one phone call, Jason and Rensselaer Honda saved the day.  My daughter was happy and, on her way, and Dad was relieved.  I can't thank Jason and his team enough for what he did today.  These are good people and what makes America an awesome place.  If I could take my own Honda all the way to NY the next time I need service, I would.   I just wanted to pass along this note of appreciation.  Thanks Jason and Rensselaer Honda!

Unfortunately, the experience reinforced every negative stereotype that we had about car dealerships. In the 45 minutes we were there, we were lied to (learned afterwards) about all sorts of things, large and small. They even lied about things they didn't need to - almost like they were doing it for sport! I felt like I needed a shower after we left. What an insult to us as consumers. We felt very disrespected. Never again.
