I brought my 2012 Honda Civic HF to Rensselaer Honda cold. That is, the car had been lovingly serviced at Friendly Honda of Poughkeepsie since it was purchased, but since I moved to the capital district in 2017, that dealership was no longer convenient. It was time for a NYS inspection and an oil change, so despite the fact that Keeler Honda was closer, I opted to take the car to Rensselaer Honda. On the phone, they were very pleasant and welcoming, giving me a choice of appt times despite the end-of-year rush that hits service departments. They texted me twice on different days to make sure I was still planning on making the appt. It was simple to confirm both times. Arriving there, we drove right into the service garage and dropped off the car and keys. Jeanette was friendly and efficient, listing the oil change and NYS inspection as the items to be done. I signed off and my husband and I went to the waiting area, from where we could clearly see the garage area. There was a nice child area room, a separate quiet room and a coffee machine that provided quite a selection of beverages. Bottled water and snacks were also available. We sat in the open area near the large screen TV and simulated fireplaceA little over an hour later, the car was done for a total of $70.08. They did not try to price gouge me or search for "something" they could make money off of. Nice job, pleasant and quiet waiting area where you aren't in the middle of the showroom floor ( like Keeler Honda), and they will certainly get my return business. Update - 11/12/2019 The battery to my husband's 2016 Accord died suddenly this afternoon, so I tried to book an appt early tomorrow morning to get the battery replaced. No dice. In fact no early morning appts all week. No attempt to squeeze us in, which I find very disappointing. As a result, we had to go to Keeler Honda, because they made room for us Sorry, Rensselaer Honda, but if you want the business of any Albany driver, you need to make the room in your schedule for times when emergencies pop up. read more

On June 20th, my husband, myself and our 10 month old baby stepped into Rennselear Honda making the worst decision we could've made and gave them a shot. We test drove a 2108 Honda Pilot, after discussion with the sales rep we decided to move forward. After signing paperwork and leaving a deposit, he told us they did not the title for the vehicle due to an improper signature and that it should be there Monday, possibly Wednesday the latest. Needless to say the title never came. After two and a half weeks of waiting a less money in our pockets, we asked the dealership to provide us with some kind of compensation to keep us a float. Balancing a family on one car, with the expectation and verbal reassurance that this car would be in our driveway any day now- they agreed to give us a rental as we await the title. A week went by, more dates were promised, a tracking number was provided and the title never came. After a month waiting and a week with the rental the sales manager insisted we bring the rental back- because at this point we were an inconvenience and an expense. I would never recommend doing business with these people. They held onto us long enough to try and make a sale- and when they realized this title was not coming anytime soon after a month without a vehicle they decided to push us out. They lied to us over and over about the titles tracking and whereabouts, the previous owners involvement and the prior interested buyer who we later found out also pulled out after over a month waiting. Mike Smith is the biggest con artist out there and I wouldn't give him one penny off the ground if I found it :-) I would never recommend this dealership, and I suggest you stay clear of the headache. After not shopping at a dealership for many years, my wife and I went here in the spring to look at some examples of a model we were going to buy. Unfortunately, the experience reinforced every negative stereotype that we had about car dealerships. In the 45 minutes we were there, we were lied to (learned afterwards) about all sorts of things, large and small. They even lied about things they didn't need to - almost like they were doing it for sport! I felt like I needed a shower after we left. What an insult to us as consumers. We felt very disrespected. I took the sales managers advice and purchased my vehicle at a different dealership. Went to this dealership to get numbers for a 2026 HRV EXL. Efe O the salesman said the color I wanted was super rare and he hadn't seen it before. Meanwhile 3 dealerships in the area had Nordic Forest Green with black interior. He presented the first offer and I asked him to separate out the dealership discounts and my car trade in value and he refused. The sales manager then came over and told me he couldn't go any lower and that the offer I had from another dealership was either a lie or I was mistaken on what I was purchasing. He also called my trade in car junk which is an interesting thing to say to a potential customer. I recommend any other Honda dealership in the area before coming to this one! read more

Told " Jake" I was interested in a deal similar to the ones I had gotten on my 3 previous leases and he wasted an hour of my time before he offered me deals that weren't even close. The he criticized my "demeanor"after I told him his options weren't even close and I would probably buy my current leased car on line for cash. I walked out after the "demeanor"comment. I guess because I'm a woman I'm supposed to be really nice no matter how much I'm ignored. I'm guessing there would be. nothing wrong with my demeanor if I was a man. When I went in for a recall fix, they messed up my dashboard notifications and wanted to charge me to fix it.

I went in for a recall. They did it quick and easy. Went in to pick it up and I had an extra question about something with my car. These two lovely workers were happy to help and went out of their way to try to figure it out. Turns out it's just a quirk with a certain accord models (wasn't a big issue anyways) but I couldn't thank you enough for their patience and help for free. I'd like to take time to share a story about the BEST service I have ever received ANYWHERE, at any business I have ever been to.   I live in San Diego, California.  My 23-year-old daughter lives in Boston, and was visiting Troy, NY. to attend to professional and personal business with a couple of girlfriends.   She drives a 2012 Honda CRV, and was using her car to travel on this occasion, and ran into some issues with the front bumper/undercarriage, which was causing some pieces to hang down and drag on the street.  By the time she saw what was happening, she was already in Troy, and far from home.  The car was close to immobile at this point, but she happened to be only about 2 miles (surface streets) from Rensselaer Honda.  After seeing the pictures, she sent me, I thought a nice slow drive could get her to the dealership without further damage, but the car would NOT have been able to be driven any further, let alone on the highway back to Boston.  Her reliable Honda CRV was down, and she was essentially stranded.   My daughter made a quick call to the Rensselaer Honda service department, but they did not have any appointment slots to get her in today.  This was very short notice on our part, and it was understandable that this was the case.  She also didn't really explain the gravity of the situation (being out of town); so they could not get her in immediately.   So, she called me.  As a Dad, especially with my kid being so far from home, you can imagine how worried and helpless I felt.  I decided to give them a call and explain the situation, and I am glad I did.   I spoke to Jason Foster, and started to explain the situation to him, and before I could finish, he told me as a Dad to a couple of daughters himself, he understood my concern and would take care of the whole situation.  Jason assured me he would get her squeezed in, and her car fixed so she could travel home safely.  I was told to have her come see him directly, and I had nothing to worry about.  He took down my number and promised me he would contact me with a 'Dad report' after the issue was fixed.   My daughter was a bit panicked and in tears by the time I called her back and told her to drive directly to the dealership and ask for Jason, which she did immediately.  She told me he was waiting for her, and got her car in right away, and promptly fixed the issue.  She texted me that he was super great, her car was back to normal, and she was on her way again.   As promised, Jason reached out to me, and he said everything was fixed and I had nothing to worry about.   I cannot thank him enough for not only providing the best service I have ever had, but also being a great person and empathizing with our situation.  This whole thing could've turned out to be much worse if she was not able to get back on the road again.   I'd like to reiterate here that I was just starting my west coast workday, and with one phone call, Jason and Rensselaer Honda saved the day.  My daughter was happy and, on her way, and Dad was relieved.  I can't thank Jason and his team enough for what he did today.  These are good people and what makes America an awesome place.  If I could take my own Honda all the way to NY the next time I need service, I would.   I just wanted to pass along this note of appreciation.  Thanks Jason and Rensselaer Honda! read more

The customer service rep. (Kathy) Was kind and assisted the way you would expect from a reputable facility. She called to tell us the work is completed at $1,032. The keys would be left for me when I come to get it after work. The first thing I did like any customer would do is to check the work. Neither rear passenger doors would open for me to get my toddler into the vehicle. Thank god I had a ride there to help me so I wasn't driving my baby around with broken doors due to safety. Review is for sales, not service. I did a very, very systematic approach to buying a new vehicle, narrowing what we wanted down to three models from three different manufacturers, and then doing comparison shopping among dealers. I ended up corresponding with or talking to 11 dealers, including all five Honda dealers in the Capital Region, and we ended up buying from Rensselaer because it was the least hassle and the least amount of hard sell, and they matched and beat the prices I had gotten from other dealers. If that's faint praise, you haven't shopped for a car lately. It's a painful experience at best and I want to reward this dealership for reducing that pain to a minimum. They were friendly and responsive without giving me a lot of phone call spam or "you have to buy now to get this deal" garbage, which I got from a lot of other dealers in this process. The showroom is not the biggest or the most amenity-filled of the dealers in the area, but that's not why you buy a car, I would hope. I do give them a few downgrades since I got what I thought was a bit of a fast-sales job on the extended warranty (all extended warranties are scams, basically) from the post-sales person, and I initially had some difficulties in getting comparison price quotes for a hypothetical car I would order from the factory as opposed to taking one that was in stock. So it's not in the rarefied five-star territory by any means. Now, four stars is a good review from me, but you must also remember that I try to rank within category, so a four-star of a car dealer may be the moral equivalent of a two-star review for fine dining or a grocery store. But I suspect it's rare that most people talk to as many dealers as I did, and I figured it would be useful to others to share that this one was the best of what is, by its wretched nature, a bad lot. So the fourth star is, within this category, about as good as you can do. I doubt I'll be back for the service because of the distance, but I'll post an update if I do. read more

I'd been avoiding buying a new car for far longer than I should have but my husband convinced me it was time. I did some research, narrowed down my choices and decided to go for a couple of test drives. The first place I hit up was Rensselaer Honda. We met with Ray Ramirez, took a test drive of a Honda Fit and talked about the features of the car. There was no hard sell, no pressure at all. After going to a couple of other dealers including a different Honda dealer we returned to Rensselaer Honda. We got a price from them which was a little higher than the other Honda dealer, about $100 but they beat that price without a fuss. One perk that the car came with was 3 free oil changes and 3 free inspections. The experience was pretty painless and I think I would return to them if I was looking for another car. read more

When buying my car I told them I want to be finished by noon as a snowstorm was to start at noon. They didn't care about me or the snow. They waisted so much time trying to sell me accessories I did not want. By the time they were done it snowing hard and I had to drive my new car in the snow on slippery roads back home. The only good news from this is the car they sold me has nothing wrong with it. In nine years of ownership only routine maintenance has been needed. read more

Watch out for the hard sell from the finance manager. When I declined the tire warranty, he actually said he had a relative who died from a blown out tire and got mad when I laughed in his face. It was brutal, he was a complete bully. This was 2+ years ago. I'm going back next week to lease a car for my daughter, because we live in Rensselaer County. This will be my third lease with them. I've had great experiences here with leasing and regular maintenance. Everyone has always been really friendly and straightforward- no high-pressure sales pitches or anything. The one time they identified an issue with my car during the regular oil change/checkup, they showed me pictures of the issue, explained it thoroughly then gave me an accurate estimate of the (totally fair) cost. Went to Rensselaer Honda yesterday to negotiate on a used Honda HRV. Didn't come to an agreement, however, pretty close. Woke up this morning at 9:00 a.m. to the phone ringing, it was Rensselaer Honda, we came to an agreement on a price. Salesman said 'you have a deal, come get the car.' Said he would put a 'sold' sign on it and have it detailed and ready for us. He knew we are 90 minutes away, we said we were going to the bank to get a bank check to pay for the car in full and would be there shortly. We arrived at 12:15 only to be told by the Used Car Sales Manager that 'THE CAR IS SOLD.' So... I guess 'you have a deal, come get your car' doesn't mean anything to this 'Manager.' They called US! Very bad business, no integrity, I would never recommend anyone contact this business for a car. read more

My lovey Acura finally died after putting about 200K miles on it so I looked into different leasing options as a replacement. I was pretty confident I wanted a Honda, Kia, or Toyota so I checked out a few dealerships. I decided the 2019 Honda HRV was a good fit. LIA Honda was absolutely awful and made me reconsider if I even wanted to lease. I went to Rensselaer Honda and it was like a whole different world. The second I walked in these guys were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. No bullshitting me around or trying to persuade me. I couldn't be happier with a first lease experience. My salesman was Matt, a big tall guy and he knew everything about the car and was the friendliest guy you could ask for. He even offered to pick me up after class in Albany (30 minutes away) because he knew I was carless. 5 Stars for sure ! read more

I've been here once before and on that occasion, the service person was awesome. He was courteous and everything. UNfortunately, I didn't get him this time. I sent the car for a major service today and the guy who dealt with me was nice and cordial...in the beginning. As with the first time, I left my number and they were to call me when the car was ready. It was suppose to be ready after 1 but I didn't so much as hear a peep at all until I called them, wondering why I haven't heard anything. When I arrived, I spoke to the service guy and asked if he had called. He insisted that he did and said he must have called a wrong number. He then informed me nonchalantly that it was ready over an hour and a half ago. No apology, no effort at all to even sympathise. Like he had nothing to do with the miscommunication. wtf? Whatever happened to taking responsibility? This is good customer service? I would have let it all blow over and not have given it a second thought if he had just apologized for the inconvenience instead of trying to say that it wasn't his fault at all. Someone sure needs a jitterbug phone! Thank you but no thank you, I'm bringing my business over to Keeler Honda. They're the only dealership in the capital region to win the Presidents Award Winner so I doubt they're incompetent...I hope! read more

Three weeks ago when my vehicle's alternator failed, the vehicle was towed to Rensselaer Honda as part of Honda Care roadside assistance which offers free towing to the nearest Honda dealer. When I called Rensselaer Honda I said that the vehicle was on its way in, described the symptoms, provided the towing provider's service analysis, and said that I wanted the alternator replaced. Problem 1- Despite being told what I wanted done, Rensselaer Honda charged me over $100 to diagnose the problem, which turned out to be a bad alternator! They did not have one in stock and could not even get one until the next afternoon, so I was without a car for two days. When I went to pick up the car, I did dispute the diagnostic fee and eventually, that was taken off the bill. That was an appropriate response, but... Problem 2-When I went to pick up the car, the employee in the service department said that the checkout paperwork had to be reviewed with me by one of the three service managers, and that none of the three was available. I waited 45 minutes in the lounge before someone delivered the paperwork. There were many signs around the lounge boasting about their customer service. After my long wait just to pick up my car, my experience felt like the worst customer service. I've had work done at Northway Toyota and Lia Honda and both offer stellar customer service. Rensselaer Honda was so far from that, it's a wonder they have any service customers! On top of that... Problem 3-When my vehicle was at the service center, I got a call from a service writer detailing what else they would love to fix. I agreed to replacement of the "leaking bushings" since that repair would be covered by the 100,000 mile power train warranty. Two weeks later, I started hearing a "clunk" when putting my foot on the brake. I took the vehicle to my regular mechanic, who discovered that the bushings and controller had not been tightened. Following two weeks of driving after Rensselaer Honda's service, I had steadily loosening vehicle parts! Thank goodness I heard the "clunk" and had it checked out. I will never go back to Rensselaer Honda again. I decided to share my story in hopes it helps others avoid this terrible service center. read more

Went in to see Business Mgr Glen and he was a douche. Said that sales negotiation couldn't be honored and all this crap. THEN Sales Mgr was an ass#### when asked to return my security deposit. My Pilot died the day after Christmas. By far the worst time of year and to say I was upset would be an understatement. We got pricing for a new engine and it wasn't worth it. I went back to the dealership I bought it from and knew immediately that I wasn't being offered a good deal. I felt taken advantage of due to my crappy situation. He went to look at my car while it was at the mechanic and got me numbers on the car I was interested in THE NEXT DAY, while he was on vacation. This morning at 10:30, he called me with a deal on a brand new 2017 Pilot with all the features I was looking for, at a price lower than I expected. I walked out of the dealership at 5:30. I bought my 2012 civic here used in 2015. They helped me get a custom autumn leather interior, and gave me a great price, and even threw in heated seats! For years I had my car serviced at a Mom and Pop garage assuming that any dealership service area would rob me blind. Boy was I wrong. There is too much to say about Rensselaer Honda,first and foremost I did not only purchase 1,2,3 but 4 vehicles here and had mostly decent experiences ,I loved the fact this was a family owned dealership which made me drive from Colonie to Troy for anything from oil changes ,to a nail in a tire etc etc. 3 years ago I was swayed into my first lease ,this month my lease was up I came to find that my previous sales guy had retired the same one who had made so many promises and two weeks ago I thought I was coming to see Amanda but I had the degrading pleasure of speaking with Ryan, whom pretty much could have cared less about helping us ,tossed a paper at me with a ridiculous price to trade in my lease for another and simply said we had "no equity and that was that". Left pretty disgusted and called and attempted to receive Andy James email address to let him know how I felt and was greeted by Mike Smith the sales manager who is about same level as Ryan. Rensselaer Honda seems to be getting some nice reviews on this site, but I do not have a good opinion of them. My husband and I, as well as our son have been longtime customers of Rensselaer Honda. At the end of last summer (2017), we brought our 2010 Civic in for a new starter. On the way there--a typical hot summer day--our air conditioning worked perfectly, as it had for the entire time we owned the car. When we drove the car home after the starter repair, the air conditioning was not working. I called the next day, explained the situation, and asked if perhaps something in the AC system had been accidentally damaged during the starter repair. I was told this was not at all likely, but that we could bring the car in to be checked out. We did that and in less than 10 minutes, the service person came out and told us we needed a new condenser for the AC at a cost of $1500. Because it was the end of the season, we decided to wait until this spring (2018) to have the repair made and also to get another opinion. Well, a few weeks ago, we visited two shops with our car and were told by both that there was nothing at all wrong with the condenser and, in fact, there was a part of the AC system missing. It was not a part that broke off--it had been removed. For $300, the part was replaced and the AC is working perfectly once again. Did the Rensselaer Honda service department remove that part intentionally and blame it on the condenser just to make the money? It certainly looks that way. I called the general manager, Andy James, today to voice my concern about this matter. When I asked for him, the secretary wanted to know what I wanted to discuss. I told her it was a concern about the repair service and she immediately said she didn't think he was in. Hmmm...? I asked for his voicemail and she didn't seem very happy to send me through. In fact, she didn't even say, one minute please--just switched the line over. I'll update this review when, and if, I hear back from Andy James. read more

The cars are all clearly marked with the MSRP, invoice, and what other people are paying, so you can make a reasonable offer. The salesmen aren't pushy. In fact, I wish they were more pushy. They didn't try to push any options on me. It was to the extent that there wouldn't have been floor mats in this car unless I remembered to ask for them specifically. Somer, the woman I talked to, managed to make my first car-buying experience nearly stress-free. It's almost like she's not even concerned with selling a car at all. I know some other people who have been to this dealer too and reccomend it. So if you're in need of a Honda, this is the place. read more

I have a 1990 Honda Accord and every time I have taken the car in for service, I have had an excellent experience. I brought the car in last week because the seat belt on the passenger side broke and they replaced it at no charge - on a 20 year old car! I had no idea that it was covered under warranty. The only issue I have is that their communications could be better and sometimes the person taking the call for service may not be aware of staffing on weekends. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with 5 stars because they have been honest and the repairs have been excellent. read more

Fran (Service manager) is a hot head, and beyond unpleasant to deal with. Dealership DESTROYED my steering wheel due to repeated air bag recalls, refused to get me a new one, and after being told they ordered me used parts for my vehicle, I asked to see them before installation and Fran lost it. Was flailing arms and yelling in front of customers, most unprofessional experience I've ever had with a business. Do not bring your vehicle here for any reason. read more

Very happy with my purchase and deal I received from Rensselaer Honda. I was not happy with a deal I had done over the weekend with another dealer so I did an Internet search and found RH to have the upgrade of the car I wanted in the color I wanted and got a quote that was thousands less than the other dealership. I cancelled the other deal and drove to RH where I was able to drive home my new car that day. Mike Wilbur was wonderful as were all the other employees who helped me with my purchase.
