This gym is missing some newer equipment that other gyms have. Like a ski erg or a glute bridge machine. They have 1 thing going for them. It can be pretty cheap if you get a good deal but it's charged bi weekly so the numbers look smaller I guess? I referred 2 people to their gym and instead of giving me the extra membership time or doing anything requiring them to use any extra effort to try and make figure it out they said I didn't send them a link and do it the right way or something. So I'm leaving and telling my referrals to leave with me. I have the app and it has everything in there...except a cancel membership button. I've been a member for over three years, and the gym has remained consistently well-run and well-equipped. The atmosphere has stayed focused and positive, with a diverse crowd of people who are serious about fitness. Hours of very good as well. Terrible management. Danielle is the current manager and has no respect for following precedent or informing members of a change in policy she implements at will. A couple of years ago, the previous manager's policy was to not allow members to hog equipment in between sets. She also allowed members to ask violators to share equipment in between their sets, thereby allowing members to deal with the problem on their own if they so choose. Moreover, that manager had a meeting with all trainers to inform them they cannot hog the machines for their clients and deny other members the right to use that equipment. Danelle has changed that policy without informing members of such a change, and demanding that members bring violation issues directly to her rather than to the member committing the violation. She said "etiquetuacy" (whatever that means) requires members await their turn even while the violator stays on the equipment between sets. According to Danielle, any complaints from policy- compliant members should be brought to the attention of management. And anyone not adhering to her new policy is invited to leave Gold Gym membership, regardless of the duration of that person's membership. The trainers who make money by deriving an income from members willing to pay hefty fees, do not care about the membership as a whole, only their own clients. And Danielle is aiding them in their goal. After 15 years of membership at Golds Gym here in Fairfax, I will be looking for another, more friendly and courteous gym. I don't care if I have to pay double the $66/month membership I am currently paying. read more

Great gym! Always clean, staff is courteous. Fantastic group classes: I do "Golds Fit" which is started 9 yrs ago - initially it was similar to Crossfit but now it's more intelligent and accessible to all ages and levels because it's adaptable . It's run by certified instructors so it's like small group personal training without the high cost. No joke- this class has definitely improved my health and probably will extend my lifespan. My mom also does the Silver Sneakers classes which are amazing here. The instructors truly care about these seniors and it's a great place to improve balance, flexibility and strength. Maybe just importantly , it's a place to socialize for these seniors who might easily get isolated in a fast paced society. A great facility and inclusive member community that uses questionable business practices. I've been a member since 2019. I did not look closely at the fees this gym charged me each month - you should definitely do that. The gym provides no monthly statements and no online dashboard to see the fees they charge. The charges that show up on your credit card statement are parsed into various unexplained charges that aren't listed as "Gold's Gym" They have a reputation in our community for charging members inappropriately and sloppy record keeping. I'm currently trying to get inappropriate charges refunded and am getting the run around from the Gold's Gym DC level of management. This, coupled with the high rate of turnover and grumbling from employees fuels my suspicion that they are struggling to turn a profit. They got a tough break, buying gyms just before the pandemic. Perhaps they are not making good on their known billing errors (deceits?) because they lack the resources to do so. There are other gyms that have figured out the business part of the business. Recent staff reorg has resulted in a cleaner gym with friendlier staff who aren't glued to their phones or look disengaged/surly Biggest complaint is half of the tvs in the gym are tuned to fox news. We signed my son up for gym and asking beforehand how to proceed since he would be away for college during the school year. We were told that all we had to do is freeze the account. Months later we receive a letter with past due fees. Tried calling several times the 1-800 on the letter. Nothing and the run around. I go into the gym to update the CC and contact info. Found out weeks later they never updated anything. Call the gym directly A couple of times. Still no call back. Nothing done. Go back to the gym trying to pay what's due and cancel my account. Asking the manager why none of it was properly in order she tells me I am passionate of the situation and she will call the police if I don't leave. The funniest part was that she offered to cover and reverse a lot of the fees if I didn't cancel. No thank you. Of course I am angry. How can you not call back, update info and be sneaky about holding on to members when they don't care at all. My husband and I have been members for over 14 years and decided to support their business during Covid knowing we wouldn't be going back to the gym for a long time. It came down to Danielle threatening me that she will call the police if I don't leave when I asked her why their system and employees are terrible at administering and following through. As a college student tight on cash I was happy to hear that the management was willing to work with me to save some money on a gym membership. Which is why I was happy to sign up for a membership after negotiating a deal in which I wouldn't have to pay for the first year of annual fees (the $100 charge each year not the bi weekly payments). I saw my account had been changed $50 for seemingly no reason, when i talked to the management they said they've never been able to completely waive an annual fee. I'm disappointed that this didn't work out. I wanted to go to this gym enough to sign up when i could have continued to go to my college gym for significantly less but after all this I definitely regret not doing so. read more

Today is Christmas Eve, my boyfriend Jst moved back to Fairfax and we were given guest passes by his brother. When we arrived we were asked to check in our profiles on their computer. The front desk didn't greet us and act like we weren't there. Then the guy at front desk, asked us for a receipts for our gifted passes. He also says you have to be a resident to use these passes. Clearly my boyfriend's phone number starts with 703 which is Va's zip code. So he asked us to create a profile which we already did when we got there, and wanted us pay $20.00 each. I joined Golds Gym at Fairfax station around end of May, 2022 I absolutely have loved my experience with golds and Fairfax Station the best part of golds is my experience is my personal trainer David. He has gone above and beyond to help me rehabilitate myself after a very bad spinal cord injury which left me partially paralyzed and with a fully fused lumbar spine. I decided to join not with the intent of hiring a personal trainer but seriously considering it as I needed major help and rehabilitation. I train 3x a week with David, and I wouldn't have progressed to where I am today with him. I feel and function so much better physically than I ever thought possible. I absolutely love this gym. The gym is well kept, very clean, and has a great selection of equipment. All the equipment looks updated and works well. The locker room is nice and large. The staff is super friendly, and the trainers and instructors are enthusiastic and engaging. They have a variety of classes and my favorite is Gold's Fit which has helped keep me motivated and always wanting to come back. I have been going to the Gold Gym for 2 years. Everything was fine before this couple of months. First, one time I was going to work out but they ask me for an ID I'm a teenager I don't carry any type of ID, and they were not allowing me in. I had to argue with them because they have never done this before. Also, customer service is unwelcome. Plus, I tried to talk to the manager because I'm not comfortable talking to the worker, and the manager didn't want to talk to me. Additionally, they charge me a $20 late fee because my card was declined when it was only 3 days late. I didn't know my card was declined they didn't send me any emails or messages. I ask how much time it has to pass to charge me a late fee and they said "It automatically charges you $20 when the card is declined"... What type of late fee is this? Gold Gym has decent equipment but $50 per month is not worth it. read more

I came to the Burke Gold's Gym a few times on their trial pass, which offers a free week to anyone who signs up on their website. Even though I was called by Gold's corporate soon after signing up, who scheduled me in to have a meeting with the manager, who didn't end up being there when I arrived at our scheduled time. Which is fine, I just went and toured the space on my own. It's definitely a no-frills kind of place. One large room with machines, weights, and cardio machines all in separate sections but close to each other, and then rooms placed around the gym for classes and whatnot. It's not a very large place, though hey did appear to have a cardio cinema, which is cool. My big gripe, however, and ultimately the reason I did not pursue signing up for a full membership after my trial was up, was the Kid's Club. They had one (ONE) employee working the Kid's Club on the first day I came with my daughter (who was under a year old at the time.) There is not separate section for babies, and the place, while large and with lots of fun stuff (especially for older kids) was a total madhouse. There must have been at least 20 kids there, ranging in age from babies to maybe 9 or 10. The girl who was working there was really nice and was spending her time close to the babies, but I was quite alarmed that there was still only one person there for all those kids (not even sure if it's legal TBH). I asked if it was normal for there to only be one person there, and she couldn't really give me an answer. She said that there was someone else on the schedule, but she didn't know where they were, and also that she was new to this location as they brought her over from a different Gold's to help out. Maybe things have gotten a little better since school started and there probably aren't as many kids there, but I was relatively uncomfortable leaving my baby to go work out. Definitely not an issue if you don't have little ones, but just figured this info might be helpful for any other moms and dads looking to get in shape! read more

**4.5**" This gym is on CRACK!" - words to my brother (a former member of Gold's) after experiencing this place for the first time. I've been to a few other big name gyms before and I have to say, I am impressed with this one. Since becoming a member a few months ago I've visited a few of their other locations. This location in particular is fairly new (3 years?) so everything is so fresh and so clean, clean! All the machines are new and appear to be by the same maker (I for one like consistency.) Treadmills (with and without TVs), ellipticals, stairs - your cardio basics are there. If you like running in the dark...they also have their Cardio Cinema where you can get your cardio on in a movie theater like room. Then there is their pretty organized weight machine area (with a bit of variety, I might add.) Of course if machines aren't your thing, they also have a big section with free weights and benches as well. Ooo, my favorite part: the section with just ab equipment! Love, love, love it! I haven't ventured into the men's locker room [yet], however I can speak for the women's. Clean and neat locker area, sitting area, TVs, showers, hair dryers, changing room, AND a sauna. Other awesome things to take note of: Massage bed, half court basketball, a yoga room, spinning room, AND body workout room (for all the AWESOME classes they offer - I try to sample them all and can say their instructors are pretty amazing.) Oh yeah, have I mentioned that they have a smoothie station? Yup. Definitely a smoothie station here! Grab one after a workout with some protein or booster of some sort. If you have kids, I believe they have a playroom here as well. Or (depending on their age) put your little one in a kid's fitness class. Pretty awesome. They may not have a pool but with everything else you're getting here, who cares. Also, FCPS employees and college students, you do get a sweet discount on your membership here, so check it out. Plenty of room (I can't stand being in cramped gyms!), friendly staff, great classes, and tons of equipment. Pretty disappointed with how things have been handled with the pandemic. I went here for years but won't be back due to lack of care of finances for current members. Only positive is that it was close to my house. Not worth how much they charge for a membership as well as all the additional fees that have been charged since the pandemic hit. This is a review of the management of this particular gym, not the facility itself. I've been a member of Gold's Gym for over 12 years. Last year I suffered a back and leg injury which required physical therapy and left me partially disable and unable to workout efficiently. I am well enough now that my doctor agreed I could stop my PT and start strength training again. I decided to sign up for a personal trainer to guide and help me avoid exacerbating my old injuries. My son was also interested in signing up for a membership and since he was no longer participating in basketball I was considering purchasing training for him also. I spoke to Assistant Manager Mario on the phone and told him I would need an experienced trainer knowledgeable about working with clients with physical limitations and with a flexible schedule (since my days off at the hospital are not fixed). I told him my son would need someone who could work with him on speed, agility, and strength without the use of heavy weights. My son is on the younger side and his pediatrician had warned against any type of training that would affect his grow plates. Mario said Conner, the head trainer, would be able to talk to me about options and evaluate my son and myself to see who would be the best trainers for us. Mario suggested Monday or Tuesday for the evaluation with the head trainer and I told him that was not possible since I am working 16 hours at the hospital on those days, but the weekend or Friday was an option. He suggested Sunday and I agreed to come by around ten to meet with Connor and discuss options for trainers. I wanted to make sure there were trainers available who would meet our needs and could accommodate my inflexible schedule at the hospital. I already knew that the trainer I would prefer to work with was unavailable and was unsure of who else would be appropriate to help me. When my son and I arrived on Sunday Connor was not there, but Mario was behind the front desk. He said that today the appointment was only to sign us up and Connor would meet with my son on Monday or Tuesday to evaluate him. Needless to say I was shocked. I had already told Mario Monday and Tuesday was not an option. Did he really expect me to sign up for training costing $67 to $75 per session (depending on how many you buy) without even discussing our trainer options with the head trainer? Since I was clear with Mario that Monday and Tuesday was not an option for meeting with the head trainer and also very clear that I wanted to meet with who would be training us prior to signing up for a training package I am astounded at the misunderstanding. We left without signing up for anything. I will be especially cautious if we do decide to sign up with Gold's Gym for training and will get every single detail in writing to avoid any further misunderstandings. Downside: bit pricey considering this is just a equipment and classes gym. I compare every gym to UFC, where they have classes for kids (not just day care for the toddlers) and wide variety of martial arts equipment and classes. At least they could add a bag or two. Plenty of unused space for it, or maybe a massage chair . Consider upping a star for that. read more

I went to an expensive gym before this one (used to go to Lifetime Fitness) and I honestly get a better workout at Golds. The competition from other hard working people/body builders pushes me, and everyone else, to do our best. At Golds, I get the vibe I'm fighting for my survival, that it's this intense workout zone and I'm the eye of the tiger lmao. At Lifetime, it was more of a vibe like "ok, it's a bunch of rich people in here just passing time and pretending to exercise before they go get a vegan smoothie". One gymgoer actually told us (we were playing basketball) that it was "unsafe to do 5 on 5 games" because of the "zoning size of the court". Lol what? Just work out bro. It's hard to explain but I recommend Golds to any guys or girls looking to get in shape. It'll give you that motivation. That something extra. Just walk in the door and into the workout area, stretch/warm up and do a couple exercises. You'll see what I mean. Before long you'll think Tarzan is your long lost cousin. I've been going to golds gym since 2019, I attended golds almost daily. The staff were good at first, but once Covid started they started to get worse. They won't enforce clean up policies before and after usage of equipment, at times in the evening I'd come in and there would be a lot of cleaning stations that were out of paper towels. I got kicked out of golds for commenting on their price increase and the manager told everyone my feedback and comments, not only did he show his whole staff I had friends that don't go there find out about it. Terrible manager for doing that, the staff is nice but watch out what you say because apparently a joke isn't allowed in 2021. read more

You have to pay extra to use the cross fit room. Even when empty, you cant go in. So regular members are forced to set up circuits or kettlebell stations in middle of gym where everyone walks back and forth. Again, even while giant CrossFit room is empty! No heavy bags, no mats for grappling... for some, that's a big deal. read more

Very disappointing. First, salesman refused to sign me up at level of membership I wanted -- and instead upsold me through deception and with false representations. I ended up having manager restore level I wanted only to find my credit card billed again at the higher level. You don't get copy of contract at signing nor do you get to read or see contract -- you sign blank signature sheets. Make purchases at counter at your peril. Everything you purchase they put on your tab, with no receipt. They have access to your credit card and can bill whenever, however much they want. Efforts I have made to correct billing errors have come to naught.... This place is horrible -- smelly, gross, too small, and a rip off. This is also a pet peeve of mine -- but some of the females dress inappropriately, which creates a gross visual, particularly a girl who just flipped herself over, exposing her lower extremities in spandex pointed at mirror while everyone else was lifting weights. They love their spandex here. The visual is just gross. No one wants to see that. Lots of low class women lacking self respect working out here. Men not so great either. Having said that, however gross, stinky, horrendous this gym is, it's still just a gym...but you endure the crap, expecting your financial info to be held sacred. These people have access to your billing info and if you don't watch your billing statements like a hawk, you will find some unpleasant surprises. They promise you a monthly rate only to have your bank statement reveal something a lot of higher. These people are just out for your money.... Staff are rude and dishonest.Avoid this dump! read more

Overall its a good gym but putting the yoga studio right next to the free weights is just ridiculous. When in poses that you are laying down you can actually feel your teeth rattle when lifters drop the heavy weights. The entire floor shakes. Wish I could give it less than one star. Quite frankly, their customer service in the COVID era has been pretty awful. They have turned into complete sticklers and to be frank rude at times I did not have a mask. At first there was a no mask policy, you could come in, work out, and leave keeping safe social distance. Then there was a mask to enter policy, but you can take it off while you workout. A month later there was a mandatory mask policy at ALL times when you workout. Fair enough, it's your gym you institute whatever policy you want. I will cancel my membership if I am not satisfied. That's what I did, or tried to. I went in-person to cancel my membership before billing of the next cycle. Filled out the paperwork and left. Was told I would get a call the next day. Never happened. I was billed several days later. I have been attempting to call and reach them several times.. They have yet to answer any phone call or return my messages. There are other Golds Gym's in the NoVa or other gym's in Fairfax that are ran better. Please seek them out, cancelling this gym membership has been an unnecessary headache. read more

I have a corporate membership with Gold's so I can attend multiple gyms. I really like Fairfax golds the most out of the ones in my area I frequent including: Chantilly and Reston. Fairfax golds is a large facility. They have two huge extra rooms that can be used by anyone when a class isn't in session. There is plenty of room and I rarely have to wait to use any equipment or feel like I am in someones way. They have a ton of stair steppers. Lots of free weights (never have to wait for them either), 3 squat racks and you can basically dead lift anywhere. It is also the cleanest golds I've been to. read more

Real Talk: Members and prospective members be CAREFUL with the sales advisers! The service adviser I met, Steve, makes car salesmen look like saints. My husband is a member of Gold's. Why? 3 Reasons: 1. Cheaper than Lifetime Fitness; 2. Close to our home; 3. Being a member he can workout at any Gold's (you pay extra for this). Considering adding me to the husband's membership, my husband called Steve to inquire. On the phone, Steve stated that this would not be a problem. The family membership for both of us would be $60 and I would be on a month-to-month basis. Steve stated that I just needed to go in and sign the paperwork. When I arrived at Gold's I met Steve... Instead of the membership being $60 it was $75. Weird. Also, adding me (Steve stated that I had already been added without a signature or approval from either me or my husband) is resulting in a one year commitment. Since EVERYTHING Steve was telling me was entirely different from anything that my husband had said I did have a few questions. (This really seemed to annoy Steve. He kept raising his voice with his explanations. Does talking loudly help others make their point?) I even had to excuse myself at one moment to call my husband to make sure that I wasn't confused or hadn't misheard him. I attempted to assume that maybe there had been a HUGE miscommunication. Steve attempted to hustle me stating that I was already signed up for this membership? Apparently, they had already billed my husband's account. How? (I actually asked this. Consent had not been provided from either me or my husband.) Also, WHY would I commit to a gym that I had never stepped foot in prior to today. (I didn't even get a tour.) Towards the end of our uncomfortable ten minute conversation, I thank him for his time, but stated that I am not interested in joining. As I am getting up to walk out, a younger sales adviser shoves a paper at me and states that I need to sign a cancellation agreement. Huh?! I declined. Why would I sign that I am canceling a membership that I did not sign up for? Pissed that hostile sales advisers "whatevers" me. Ew. I couldn't help it. I told him he really needed to develop his professional manners. He's lucky that I chose to be polite. Not everyone in this world will opt to be civil as I or maybe he knows that and that's why he indulged in his abrasive behavior. Steve watched this encounter and smiled. I have been going to this gym for 7 years. I am sad to report on some changes that have convinced me to change. If you are a senior who wants to attend the Silver Sneakers program you are likely to be disappointed. The classes have become so overcrowded that unless you are willing to arrive an hour early you are likely to be turned away. The obvious solution would be to use a bigger room. That seems to be impossible. So the second option would be to add a second class. they have done that on Monday and that class is well attended. However, on Wednesday and Friday you are going to be turned away. Only those willing to arrive by 9:45 for the 10:45 class are going to get in. Disgusted and disappointed. read more

I came in with a purpose of getting a family plan as my kids would of like to join the gym as well. The manager was not helpful at all as a matter of fact, she kept saying how her stuff doesn't do anything and that if there's anything that needs to be done right, she must do it. That is when I should of get a red flag and leave but I thought I'd give it a try. With an absolutely minimal to none explanation and after me being very adamant about the plan I was looking for, she simply gave me a paper about the classes and the plans listed as she asked for my credit card. My understanding was that the plan I signed up was for a family plan and it appeared that it wasn't. Her approach was simply careless and very disinterested in helping me out with this as I was a new client. Overall the experience was the worst as I could imagine.
