Very impressed! Highly recommended place to get your groove on!…read more As an ex-fitness professional and competitor, I cannot count how many gyms/athletic clubs I've had memberships at, whether it be at boutique or privately owned facilities, large chain/franchise gyms or community centers like the Y. Not everybody is for all gyms, and not all gyms are meant for everybody. This particular Planet Fitness location is a standout. This year, this franchise, has added squat, racks. Finally! This location has some of the friendliest staff, who are always saying hello, walking around and cleaning the equipment and spaces. Hugely important and appreciated. This location in particular has such a great variety of members, from different backgrounds, and different abilities. It's common to hear people say hello to one another, give each other high-fives, and just generally be kind towards each other. There are people of every shape and size, persons in wheelchairs and persons using Rollator's and so forth. Zero intimidation factor. There is an excellent variety of equipment. There are several free, weight racks, lots of cardio machines, cable stacks, and various cross training implements like bands, balls, kettle bells, etc. Change rooms are very clean and everything is well-lit. Lots of parking in the adjacent parking lot. Fully wheelchair accessible. If you're looking for a fitness facility that offers various types of fitness classes, this is not a good choice, it's just not part of the PF offerings. But if you're looking for a place to feel comfortable and welcome while getting your heart rate up, this is definitely a great gym.

This Planet Fitness is clean, tidy, and contains everything you might need for your fitness routine…read more(except a swimming pool). The machines are well-maintained. I like the 30 minute room a couple of days a week, and I like the weight machines. I feel like I can get a whole body workout here. I typically do not do cardio here, but I have been on the cardio machines and they are just as clean as the rest of the place. The gym does have a shower and locker room, which is also always neat and clean. In the very back of the gym is an area for yoga/stretching beyond the use of machines. It really does cover it all for you. If you're in the O'burg area, this is a great place to join. And, it's so inexpensive in comparison to other gyms (and no committment).

What a super cool concept and somewhat hidden (or maybe I just didn't know about it) gem…read more So, you show up and there are stations set up. Video monitors show the movements throughout the class but there's also a coach present to demonstrate and make corrections, if necessary. At the clock's 3-2-1 you perform 6 sets of 25 second of work followed by 10 seconds of rest then you have 40? Seconds to switch stations. You do this for ~45:00 and then you're done! From what I understand, some days are more cardio / agility / body weight and some days are more strength focused. The coach also helps you modify any challenging movements to suit your personal abilities and goals! I will definitely be going back for more. The energy of the group was stellar ( I went at 12:15 ). I felt welcomed and got an excellent workout!

For several years, I've enjoyed going to this Y when I am in town. In the past, I've done Zumba,…read moreBody Pump, Pilates, Yoga and Spin and have enjoyed most of the classes. I remember happily sweating like crazy during Tasha's Spin and Body Pump classes and enjoying Gyptsie's dance classes in particular. If you are an intermediate/advanced student, be aware you will not be challenged by the yoga or pilates classes here, but there are many other fitness classes for you to take. This time, due to a lumbar issue, I am walking on the treadmill, doing the elliptical and some weights. (Definitely miss the group classes - sigh.) There are 3 different types of steppers - some are harder than the rest. The treadmills (10) all face the windows and get the morning sun, so I wear a hat daily. If you arrive before 8a, you are assured of a treadmill. If you arrive at 9a, you probably will have to wait. I've noticed most people walk very close to the controls or walk fast and have their hands on the arms. I like to stay towards the back edge and swing my arms. The clientele are varied in age and fitness level. Don't see kids in the early AM (because they are all in school). Front desk staff are helpful and friendly. Check in is via scan card and an automated voice says "Welcome!" Long hours (5a to 10p mon-thurs) and open 7 days a week. There are spray bottles and paper towels to clean equipment (I see most people doing this) after you use. Clean bathrooms. I put in a request for the cleaning staff to clean the dust off the front of the treadmills and the rear of the steppers. There are many options for older adults (guess I should count myself in this group - my PT gave me the "seasons of life" speech when I complained why I wasn't healing as quickly as I did in 2007). Besides water aerobics, there are dance classes (slower pace than Zumba) and also chair classes where participants sit in a chair and use balls and resistance bands. New things I have noticed since my visit in 2013: 1. Treadmills, Steppers are new - Precor brand - with TV's (though as of now not working - still waiting on Time Warner Cable). 2. Yoga mats in group exercise room are real yoga mats (not the super thick foam ones that were very dirty b/c people wore shoes on mats) and there are spray bottles of disinfectant and a sign for people to wipe down their mats after using. 3. Personal Training - 3 trainers: Brandon, Tasha, Andy. 1 hour is $30. You can buy packages. 4. Open on Sundays starting at 1p. Director is Bruce Zahn - spoken to him twice. He's from Los Angeles where he instituted a recycling/green program at the Y there. His office is in a corner of the treadmill/weights room. Affable and easy going. If you are going to be in town for more than 2 weeks and like to work out frequently, the monthly pass is a good deal. Otherwise, you can get a day pass. Ample free parking in the front and side and rear of building.
