This franchise uses a third party billing system called peak payment solutions to extract money from their members. Even if you are not under any sort of contract or commitment they will not allow you to cancel your membership directly. You are instead instructed to address it with the billing company. This makes it next to impossible to cancel the membership, so your only course of action is to simply stop paying them. Then Peak payment solutions will immediately start charging you late fees and will start threatening collections and calling relentlessly within a week of a missed payment. It is illegal to try to extort payment out of people, who are under zero contractual commitment to pay you, by threatening collection. read more

I'm very grateful that as a senior my insurance covers a membership at Golds Patton Avenue. I actually lived near Venice Beach, CA and saw the original muscle men at work in the 1970-80's. Gold's has a spacious work out area (including a small private space for women). They have an incredible array of machines, from aerobics, (stairs, ladders, rowing, elliptical) to all the various free weights and equipment for targeted exercises by several brands. There is seldom a wait time to get on a machine. My favorite regular class is Yoga with Pharrell. There are a range of classes by type and fitness levels. A cross section of society makes up the clientele and they are serious about staying in shape. There is always parking and staff are friendly and helpful. read more

Because Gold's Gym Patton and Gold's Gym Oakley are the same owners, I am posting here (as well as the Oakley page). We loved Golds Gym Oakley...until it was sold. The new owners don't care about customers or their own employees. First, after returing for the season, I asked for my membership to be unfrozen. They charged my account multiple times over 6 weeks, and failed to activate my membership. Without an active membership you cannot see the class schedule or sign up for classes. Despite multiple visits, emails, and calls, they didn't activate my membership for SIX weeks. I asked for a credit for at least four weeks that I missed, but they refused, despite THEY failed to activate my membership, all while charging me. Second, in the past I have been able to enjoy a seasonal membership, as I only live here 5 months of they year. With new owerhip, they have a "policy" of only allowing a two month freeze, yet the length of granted freezes appears to be applied inconsistently, I assume based on how much $ you spend on training. So the disparate treatment is frustrating. Third, despite paying $ for training sessions, if you don't use them within a certain time period, they expire. I had to battle to keep sessions after my trainer had to cancel a week due to illness. Don't get me wrong, people get sick and I understand that, but the owners should be taken into account and quickly granted the request. By the way, I loved my trainer, she's awesome, so I'm sad I have to walk away as a matter of principle. To make matters worse, the new owners hide behind other and makes it impossible to reach them. Per local managers, they have zero empowerment to make andy decisions, and all queries must go through the app. The folks running the app try to point back to local management, and when I point out the irony, the response is basically that they are a third party vendor and cant help. There is no means to know the identity of, or contact information of, the owners/legal entity (which I believe is legally required). The new owners of Gold's Gym (oakley, patton) don't realize, people have options, so i've exercised my option. Not only does my golf club have a gym, but so does the Asheville Raquet clus (and there are plenty of others. The facilities at the racquet club are huge, the training is substantially cheaper, and in addition to courts, they have a pool, a pool is something the new owners promised when they starting charging a bi-annual equipment fee, but didn't deliver on. Avoid frustration and find yourself a different gym. read more

It has been over 15 days now and not one piece of communication to members has been posted on their webpage or anywhere for that matter as to what is going on and if/when they plan to open. When you call the gym phones in both locations, the answering machine is said to be full and automatically hangs up. When you text corporate, they send an auto-generic message to speak to the local franchisee. Yet, I have been billed and there are no refunds. They have made it so you can't really even cancel. Though, I pay with a credit card monthly. I am sending a notice in today to dispute any billing. I suggest others do the same. read more

I had no problems with membership contracts. It's month-to-month and I went to the membership desk to quit and the person just finished out the month. I absolutely loved the CrossFit-like training that you get with the highest membership category. The trainers are hilarious (super knowledgeable), the people you work out with a generally smart/crazy (and I loved every bit of it), and your burn your calories in this big open space that is perfect for the music they play. The facility equipment is top-notch. What I absolutely hated was that you could not use the space unless there was a CrossFit class that occurred. I was a kid in the candy shop since there's a window. You wonder why you're not in there and its because of corporate policy. They should have resolved it by having many more CrossFit classes in the space (but they choose not to pursue that recommendation). The other part that I hated was the men's bathroom often smelled either musty or chemically. They could never figure out the right balance so I just got in and out to head home and washed up. I moved to Arden but I would have kept the membership if I stayed closer to Asheville. CrossFit at this location was the reason to join. read more

I have been coming here on and off for the past three years. I recently filed paperwork (a month ago) for a corporate membership. They took my paperwork and told me it would be. A week or so before I was in the system and get a key card. It has been a month, every time I've got in usually at night they tell me oh ok you're not in the system just sign in on the side on a day pass and come back during day time hours to talk to the manager So today I go in and the same thing happens I still am not in the system. The front desk dude then gets me connected with the manager who I know, and she told me that since I am not in the system I have to go. Y'all this is ignorant as F. Your manager has an IQ of about 80. I don't know what's going on if y'all are loosing paperwork or having issues with the computer system but you need to get figured out and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD get a manager who actually cares about your business This is not the only time that people who have turned paperwork in on corporate memberships have been turned away. Shitty staff, incompetent handicapped manager. Jennifer you literally just kicked a paying member of your gym out of your gym because you and your staff couldn't handle the paperwork. At this writing, Gold's Gym is engaged in straight-up thievery. (A) They resumed charging members monthly fees in September without informing them. (B) They are flat-out lying and saying they informed members in a September 3, 2020 email that this would be the policy; the email includes no such information. (C) They say that as a matter of corporate policy they are refusing to refund these monthly membership fees to people who aren't using the gym during a pandemic, such as myself. (D) They say they're enforcing a 30-day notice on cancelling your membership, meaning you'll be charged *again* if you call or write to cancel. I recommend you contact your CC company and have them dispute any past charges and block future charges from Gold's Gym. read more

I am currently working with a personal trainer to achieve some specific goals and have been thrilled with the results. If you are looking for someone that can take you to the next level of fitness ask for Luis...he'll get you were you want to go! In addition to the traditional free weight and weight machines, they also have a pool for lane swimming, classes throughout the day and even a Crossfit-esk class that I am going to take to continue this fitness journey. I've been going to Gold's gyms for decades. This is without a doubt the worst one I've been to.. Front desk people, wonderful. Members wonderful. The facility is crap. They chopped the space for stretching and such to add a big personal fitness area, which is rarely used. The very small stretching area is usually dirty. The music played s awful and very very loud. The men's locker is broken down and dirty. No paper towels, just the loud germ spreading blower. The manager has a bad attitude. To complain or ask for a change is met with derision. About as rude a manager as I have come across. We all thought when Rush was bought out there would be an improvement, but sadly not. read more

I received a pass to come work out and get a 30 day plan and follow up at the end. When I went in and tried to work out they wouldn't honor it, saying it wasn't a pass but a plan. Let's think about this logically, if I can't work out for thirty days in their gym, then there will be no difference between today and thirty days from now when I have my follow up. However the rude front desk clerk gave me a hard time about it saying I had to be a resident and was very very rude and ugly about it. She then proceeds to get her "Sales Manager" whoom was rude also. He even had the nerve to say he could over turn what corporate says for him to. So guess what I did?? Staff is friendly and the gym is clean. Price is very reasonable for what is offered. High energy.

The Rush was not my favorite gym, but it did offer a clean facilities and good exercise equipment. The main reason I chose the rush is that it had an excellent steam room, sauna and whirlpool and a small swimming pool. However since it became Gold's Gym the only improvements I've seen is that the walls got repainted and the signs were changed. It has gradually declined to be a second-rate facility that is far sub-standard to the new one on Fairview Road which is across town from me. It's been months since the whirlpool has worked properly. The switch for the jets says nothing and every time I've mentioned it at the front desk I've been told it was being fixed, but nothing has happened. In the meantime, the steam room not always turned on in the morning and the whirlpool is often murky and smelly in the morning. The locker room floors seem permanently dirty from usage. People using the gym are friendly enough, but those at the front desk tend to be completely indifferent when not rude. read more

I love this gym. I've had memberships at many different gyms and Gold's has the biggest, best variety of weight machines, cardio equipment and group classes. The space is clean and there are always bunches of staff available to answer questions or to help try new equipment! read more

This particular gold's gym is not worth the price. For one, the equipment is definitely older and not updated. This I got over since it was close to work and easy to get to. However, the general manager of the store is very rude and I have had 2 encounters with her now. Each time I ended up leaving the gym after speaking with her because I no longer felt comfortable continuing my work out. The last encounter was today regarding wearing a mask during my workout. I was unaware of the new rule and gladly put on my mask once I found out. However, the way the general manager approached me was unprofessional and rude. I will be cancelling my membership and going to another gym. read more

My issue is that after agreeing to a membership wherein I can "cancel anytime without penalty" it is STILL a requirement that I come on premise to cancel. I can't call, verify that I am who I say I am, to cancel my membership to a dirty, rundown, ill equipped "fitness center" but that they actually want for me to take time out of my day, to come onsite so they can try to sell me one last time on why it's a good idea for me to stay a member. C'mon y'all. It isn't 1986. No wonder your turnover is so insane. Allow people the opportunity to walk away from their relationship to you with some class. Perhaps if you did more to invest the monies we spend with you into staff training, customer service, and maintenance of your facility, we wouldn't be so eager to leave. read more

Do not use this location. While visiting my parents from out of town I attempted to use a free trial and they would not allow it. They said they require a local ID which would be fine had they not let my sister in on the same pass who is from out of town as well. The real issue here is that they are picking and choosing who can use certain passes. There was no attempt to make this right by jared, a manager here, while he defended his decision to pick and choose who can use the gym. I would suggest going elsewhere if you want to workout as there will be no attempt to make you feel welcome or want to stay. They do not care about keeping potential members like my parents who do live here satisfied, only the next deal that walks through the door. read more

I've been a member of this gym since it opened (before being bought by Golds). As with every gym I have ever been a member of quality can go up and down at times but usually works out better in the end. Unfortunately this has not been my experience at this location which in my opinion has been on a steady decline for several years now. I would switch gyms if convenient location was not my #1 priority. They can't manage to post a current class schedule on line, they have reduced the hours and increases the prices. Good instructors leave due to noticeable "internal political" issues and to top it off the parking lot is a disaster. The gym can be at half capacity and have no more parking spots. read more

My original plan was to use the gym over the winter to stay in cycling shape. While the Tues/Thurs class instructors were great, the bikes are in horrible shape (more than half are unusable). I tried to cancel my gym membership yesterday, but learned that you can't do it via their web app - you must go the gym location itself. Today, I learned why. Even though I was beyond the 'obligation period', I was told that their policy is to bill for another 30 beyond your cancelation date. So, unless I were to have canceled on my exact billing date I GET TO PAY FOR ANOTHER FULL MONTH AT A GYM THAT I DON'T WANT TO ATTEND. Wonderful. read more

This location is dirty and disorganized, with smug, unhelpful employees. I've been a member at three other Asheville gyms including the Y in recent years, and the Patton Ave Gold's Gym is terrible. I only joined because I live so close. The pool area and locker rooms are disgusting with dead flies all over the pool shower wall. It has been this way since I joined over a year ago, members have complained, but the filth persists. How hard is it to clean off dead flies? On top of that, I find it hard to believe that staff whose job it is interact with the public and make members' experience positive seem to lack basic social skills. The longer term employees seem to be both smug and cynical about their jobs, a bad combination. A number of the newer employees are genuinely friendly and seem to know how to talk to other humans. I have managed people for decades and half the Patton staff would be replaced if ownership wanted to improve the tone and feel of the gym. The only reason I keep my Gold's membership is because the east side location is clean and nice. Patton Ave Gold's is fine if you want a dirty gym to do free weights and don't mind a smaller workout area, but until they clean house, this is not a location worth paying for. read more

Be careful with predatory and unethical billing practices with this location. Be prepared to deal with management that will do nothing to rectify errors made by staff. I canceled my membership several weeks ago with a staff member named Julian. He had me go onto their computer and mark reasons for canceling, etc. I asked three times for confirmation that membership was canceled. He assured me that it was. I stopped in last week to confirm the cancelation and was told that nothing was in the system. The manager on duty said there was nothing they could do other than bill me for another month and process cancelation based on my second attempt.
