My husband and I had a standard "cut and dried" immigration case, as I was a US citizen with myself, my parents, and my grandparents born here, and my husband and I got married and he was born in India. We started working with Goldstein Immigration Lawyers in 2019 after we had our initial consultation, and we liked that they were clear regarding goals, prices, timeline, and what they needed from us. I 100% believe every person/case is "case by case" due to where they are from, what their immigration status is, and the ease of which they can get their documents. For example, I work in an administration role and had experience cataloging binders of documents, and had easy access to my birth certificate, passport, family documents, medical records, but my husband lived/worked in multiple countries and needed time to gather everything. I could see how someone who wasn't fluent in English or had experience with piles of documents or were born in a country/place where records were hard to come by could have trouble. We were married in summer of 2019, and due to Trump in office, we decided to go "one step beyond" on everything. They wanted copies of letters, emails, and texts? We kept a printed binder of texts from 5 years of our relationship. They wanted samples of our rental documents, utility bills, and ephemera from getting married? I scanned, bagged, and copied files of every single engagement card, wedding card, receipt of my wedding rings, documents from our jobs, our rental companies, or electric/gas/water bills going back 1-2 years, and included photo albums of double the photographs of our families, friends, and us traveling they wanted. People need to realize that this is NOT an easy process, even with the most "basic" immigration cases. We treated this like a second job. We kept receipts of every place we went. We took photos of ourselves when traveling and put them on all social media. We had so many labeled folders and binders of information we ended up buying a personal filing cabinet for it. THAT is the level of work you need to do on your immigration cases, especially those for whom English is not their official language, there are children involved, or one spouse has one type of visa and another spouse has another. We were in contact with the "main lawyers" during the "big parts" of the process where we had interviews, or citizenship testing at City Hall. During the majority of the process when you're sending them signed documents, copies of things, forms, paperwork, scanned items, you will go through paralegals. Our entire process from beginning to end went from 2019 to Oct of 2024---going back through past emails, I'd say we were handed over to 10-15 paralegals in that time. Some of it has nothing to do with us; it's simply because people left for other jobs, other careers, COVID pandemic had people changing jobs, etc. But the process is very long and although THEY need to bring their A game to the table to help you, YOU and your spouse/family/self need to advocate for yourself. If you can advocate or have family/friends that will help you advocate, ask questions, email, call, then the process will go smoothly. For example, anything they wanted us to sign, we didn't just sign it. We read the documents together, checked for questions we didn't understand or spelling mistakes, and then sent it back. If we planned to travel out of state or out of the country or my husband got a new job, we asked how that would impact our case first. You CANNOT pay them, sign the documents, and expect it all to go smoothly. There were occasional times I found a date that was wrong or a word misspelled, or they had a piece of paperwork that was incorrect. We HAD to work with them because it was OUR case. Overall, we loved the lawyers we worked with, the paralegals are young but on top of things, and I appreciated the in-person consultation, the first Zoom consultation we had (again, this was during "COVID world" so things were crazy), but the DAY my husband passed his citizenship test, he was able to take his oath. I also liked that right up front they were 100% clear on how much the process cost, the break-down of fees and when they were due (and for people complaining about the fees, doing the paperwork yourself still costs a lot of money, but with a good lawyer you have peace of mind that everything is being rushed and processed correctly), and when we had any questions, we could email or call at any time. Rarely did it take 24 hours to get a response. Even when our case was slowing down due to COVID lockdown, they would still reach out to simply say "Nothing yet, COVID has delayed things, we will let you know", which helped us feel a lot better. I called the office and the receptionist couldn't figure out which lawyer had been assigned to my case, or consultation meeting, just that there was a meeting scheduled. Me and my husband hired JG office 2 times, once to sue USCIS, and the next time to prepare a waiver after our green card was denied. He personally said, he has never lost a waiver and was over confident that our green card would be issued. Well he was wrong. Maybe because he has too many team members sending emails and making requests, and he even hired a lawyer to compile our waiver OUTSiDE of his practice. Joseph Moro, who was negligent in preparing it. We received feedback from the USCIS about all the gaps that weren't addressed. Now we are in deportation proceedings, several thousand $$ poorer, and Josh didn't even explain the USCIS letter with decision. He promptly sent a disengagement letter, terminating our relationship. Josh Goldstein over promises and sends our marketing emails that prey upon desperate families. I am born and raised American citizen, with a 2 year old child, and now we are planning where to live outside of USA. Joshua "Josh" Goldstein has been my personal immigration lawyer for a number of years as well as friends and family. He also does a divorce and family law, and other general practices. He's always come through and it's great to have a lawyer who picks up the phone when you need it! Picking a lawyer is difficult! Referrals don't always work out. But if you need someone who will jump right he's your man! Since he's in Beacon Hill, it's easy to see him and he's well connected with the Boston Bar community as well as Gov't Agencies, in regards to immigration and family courts. Letter sent to law office: "Dear Mr. Goldstein, On April 16th, 2014 at 10:00am, my girlfriend and I consulted with you regarding my visa situation. I discussed with you options for continuing my stay here and obtaining work authorization. Before the discussion began, your secretary performed an initial interview during which she asked my country of origin and recorded this information on a form present throughout our meeting. During the first few minutes of our conversation, you asked me what my area of study was so you were aware that I have an advanced degree in mechanical engineering. While explaining the benefits of a green card through marriage, you not once but twice brought up how this status will allow me to do any line of work including "opening up a Ramen shop". This comment was extremely disrespectful, racist, and founded on stereotypical assumptions based on my nation of origin. It is no different than suggesting that a Mexican citizen could open a taco truck or a Vietnamese immigrant start a nail salon with their newfound and no longer limited employment options. Racism is intolerable in any situation, but the use of flippant ethnic slurs during a conversation in which I am seeking your professional advice about a serious matter is absolutely unacceptable. First off, Josh and his staff are very professional. I never had to worry about whether I will hear an answer from them if I ever called or emailed. They usually gave me a reply within not 24 hours, but within 6 hours, which is amazing! First and foremost, I have to start by saying...It is very rare that you go into a law office and get to sit directly with the faces you see on the website. Every time I have dealt with Josh, I deal directly with him and his amazing staff. Every question goes unanswered, and I leave knowing that my husband and I are in great hands. My husband's immigration case was complicated and Joshua Goldstein eventually told us that he could not help us. We are currently speaking to another lawyer, but it wasn't so much the result but the handling of our case that bothered me the most. Joshua Goldstein was very unprofessional and lost our papers and then tried to act as if we had never given him a copy of all our papers the second time we came to see him. When we went in for our final consultation, he simply told us "I read your case and I don't know what to tell you. Do nothing." He did not even mention to us any other options or even seem to respect the severity of the problem for us. I scheduled an appointment with Mr. Goldstein based on the yelp reviews. He was the third lawyer i was seeing, and unfortunately, the other lawyers had said different and contradicting things. To give you my history, i am an international student for nine years now, while my parents are US citizens. When they first came to United States, and as soon as they received the green-card, we filed for I-130 with USCIS, a petition which was approved. The whole consultation with Mr. Goldstein lasted less then 10 minutes. It was astonishing that the first thing i did, without even sitting down with him, but as soon as i entered the door, the receptionist asked me to pay the $100 consultation fee, almost like they were afraid that i would be disappointed with the service and would refuse to pay in the end. Or a sign that Mr. Goldstein just would not care. This was an experience I had not had with the other two lawyers. Mr. Goldstein looked at my approved petition from USCIS, threw that in my face, and told me that that notice gave him nothing. Really? Why does it say the petition was approved? What is my next step? What should I do? Does it matter that my parents are now citizens? All these questions were unanswered. I really hoped he could give me some advice- i would have hired him if he did. As a future lawyer myself, he was a good experience in showing me what kind of lawyer NOT to be. This is the only reason he gets the one star (plus, it is not like i have any other choice.) And Mr. Goldstein, please pay more attention to my face, and not my other body parts next time. Please? read more
