    Duck Crossing.

Ran by a few guys that look the part of a jazz quartet in a smoky bar. The staff is very professional, and the lady with a heavy southern accent runs the kitchen/bar to the smooth beat of a metronome. The best thing about this course, is the sub $20 pricing on Golfnow. Gold: 6734 Blue: 6482 White: 6075 Black: 5817 Red: 5483 The heavy dog legs both way cuts down most armature's chances of reaching the par 4's in 2 on this short track. The layout also called for lots of water in the forms of small ponds and nature reserves down entire length of several holes. Pro: Greens run smooth and true. Very scenic course with a tough layout. Long par 3's with danger. Great course design to force creative shot making. Almost all par 5 have a risk/reward factor of fairway crossing water/hazards. Cons: Bunkers have a mud-ish sand and pebbles. Dead spots on the greens(Prob caused by drought last year) Oddly bumpy T boxes, tough to get a comfortable stance. Low budget interior in the club house. Funeral processions passing by 3 times while we are on the course? Cart girls in the morning only? Is 18 a par 4 or 5? (Sign says 5, scorecard says 4) This Country Place Golf club gives you the scenic sensation of a private country club(Which it once was) for little cost($19.50 per person on golfnow). So while it accumulated a long Con's list, the price makes this one of the best golf experiences in Houston.

Challenging course with lots of water and doglegs. In very good condition since all the rework last year. Nice GPS electric carts, too.

I'm giving 5 stars to try and move the average. The course is a solid 4 stars for the price-4-play,…read morebut doesn't deserve 3 stars. In the last two years this course has drastically improved. Albeit, some of the fairways are a little bumpy, and you'll find a dead patch here and there but it's a public course. Overall the greens are smooth and the fairways are well maintained. Ever played Willie's course in Perdenales? If you have, you'll know what playing in the rough is. Southwyck is a good course with challenging holes. Plenty of obstacles and fun to have along the way... plus if you buy a round before noon you get two free drinks (beer, soda, tea) and hot plate. Talk about a bargain.

I wouldn't play this course again even if it were free. The fairways feel like driving over speed bumps the entire way down. The "greens" are basically low-cut fairway grass, and several of them have barely any grass at all. Anyone who's spent a summer in Houston knows how brutal the heat gets. With a 105 heat index and zero water stations on the course, conditions were rough. The cart girl came by exactly once the whole round -- we felt like we'd been stranded in the desert and finally found water. To top it off, the clubhouse doesn't sell food. It's not hard to throw some hot dogs on a griddle and hand out a bun. Save your money and play somewhere else.

I recently visited Golfcrest as a guest with some friends who are members, and I have to say -- I…read morewas shocked by what I witnessed. While I was downstairs near the restaurant, I saw the Food & Beverage Manager, Armando, speaking to one of his staff members in a completely unacceptable way. He was rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. From where I was standing, it didn't seem like he realized a guest could see or hear him -- because he didn't hold back at all. What I saw bothered me enough that I started asking around, and I was honestly disturbed by what I heard. Multiple members told me they've had ongoing issues with Armando, and that this kind of behavior from him isn't new. In fact, several people told me he's the worst Food & Beverage Manager Golfcrest has had, and that they've considered leaving or already started taking their business elsewhere because of his attitude. I had originally planned to sign up as a member myself, but after what I witnessed and what I heard directly from multiple members, that decision was a hard no. I also shared the situation with the friends I came with -- and they've all agreed they're no longer interested in staying or spending money there either. The Food & Beverage Manager is supposed to be the face of the restaurant and help create a welcoming, enjoyable experience. Instead, Armando is doing the opposite -- and he's driving away both potential and current members. Golfcrest seriously needs to reconsider who they have in leadership, because this kind of management is hurting the entire reputation of the club.

I'm no golfer; I golf maybe 2-3 times a year. I usually go because my friends enjoy golfing, and I…read moreenjoy the socialization while smoking a cigar and drinking a beer. My expectation for a golf course is lower than golf enthusiasts. Alvin Country Club has the "country" part down, not so much the "club" part. After golfing here, I thought I could have saved money by pulling over to the side of the highway and golfing into the ditch instead. When you arrive at Alvin Country Club, it is reminiscent of the movie, "Tin Cup." When you park there's a lovely view of a green, in-ground pool. The clubhouse is run by a nice woman who had a hard time charging my friend, who only planned to golf 9 holes. I don't know what the problem was; ACC only has 9 holes! You can golf 18 holes, just repeat the course. For $22, you get 18 holes and a cart, so if you want a cheap game of golf, ACC is the place. As for me, I was still in search of beer. If you want beer, you have to drive to the clubhouse or bring your own cooler. There is no beer cart. ACC has an app, which you can download for free; it will keep a live score and GPS. I didn't download it, but if the app is built anything like the golf course, don't hold your breath. Ready to play? Finding the first tee was real fun, because there were no signs telling us where to go. Also, if it rains the day before, wear rain boots or shoes - maybe a snorkel too, because the course will be under water. There is no drainage on the property. The course was covered in water. The tee boxes are horrible and not maintained. They were covered in weeds and uncut grass. The fairways are just as bad, and possibly haunted, because out on the fairways golf balls would just disappear. The sand traps didn't have sand in them - I assume the sand was washed away by the flood. I was with a group of 7. We did the first 3 holes in two groups, but there was a group scramble taking place with larger groups present at ACC. We then combined ourselves into one group and continued. We made it to the 7th hole and were approached by some guy (he could have been the marshall, I'm not sure). He told us to split up. We explained the situation with the other groups, and he said it was OK for them because they were members of ACC with their personal golf carts. If you're looking for a cheap, drunk scramble with your friends, then ACC is the place for you. If you are looking for a real golf course, go elsewhere. Mini golf establishments are better maintained! If you check in on the Yelp app, you get a $100 discount off of banquet hall rentals Friday-Sunday. Wow. What a deal... ACC is in desperate need of a complete overhaul.

So we go with the facts: the greens sucked, the fairways are barely mowed. The carts sucked, no beverage girls. Only 9 T boxes hitting out to a field looking fairway. And they all looked the same minus the last one, which goes over a ditch. Lots of animals all over, Snakes, lizards, birds, 4 legged running things. Shoulda brought my gun. Yeah, it's cheap, ridiculously cheap. But still feel robbed after calculating teh fuel costs to get here. Talking a B52's worth. So If you live near this, use it as a driving range. If you dont live in the zip code or have a driving range, or just a field near by, only go here to spectate nature. Place is more like a wild life preserve than golf course.
