I am reviewing Paintball Zone NORTH. I could not find that place on Yelp but since North and South is the same owner maybe someone will find my review useful. I have played at many fields in different states and this one is average. The Good: -Large woods ball/rec fields (but only 4) -The refs try to play back to back games so you play two games before leaving field. -Bring your own paint. -Their paint is very good. The Bad: -If you are the only walk on you need to wait for other walk ons. They will not ask groups if you can pair up with them. Other fields do. -The refs do not all consistently apply or follow their own safety rules. Some are more strict than others. -Several people got a warning mark on wrist band for not surrendering someone. We should have got one verbal warning -The refs have favorite players that they know who come all of the time. They give those players "special breaks" like not calling wipes, playing the games they want to play instead of asking the other walk ons, etc. -Their web site does not say $5 more if you bring your own paint. I wan caught by surprise when it came time to pay. The Ugly: -If you rent equipment it's only from 10-2pm one price then if you want to stay longer you MUST rent the equipment again at FULL price from 2-6pm!! That's crazy stupid and expensive! When this happens lots of players leave and this disrupts the walk on players who have their own equipment because now you may be searching for another group to play with. read more

A big shout out to the staff here as they were extremely friendly and professional. I used to play here all the time about ten years ago and always had a good time. I really appreciate that they allow outside paint. I live a few hours away so I only get to play here when I'm in town visiting family. All my local courses require field paint which always has a big price markup so it's nice to play here and be able to pick my own paint. My biggest complaint is that once the speedball guys were done with practice, they came and joined all the rec walk ons/rental walk on groups. A fair bit of them are sponsored to some extent and have free or discounted paint. They have electric guns and extensive knowledge of every layout. The ref we played with today let team captains choose teams every round so the speedball/sponsored players were a hot commodity and their familiarity with layouts and strategies made it completely their game. These guys have some seriously impressive gear and free paint to go with it. I run a mech gun with a short trigger I can't quite walk on. So it was frustrating to watch dudes walk triggers that were flinging free paint on electric on all of us. Yeah, for sure, they are fantastic players but the playing field was far from even. One of the guys seriously said "I'm going to f**k all of you up." Are you kidding? It's natural to be competitive but as someone nearing 30, it was pretty low to be telling a 13 year old I'm gonna shove his s**t right in. I'm not sure it's fair to consistently pair these guys with casual rental and rec players. It made the rounds significantly less fun when you have guys like that out there sending call outs the average player isn't quite familiar with. Many of them loudly bragged about how they've been teammates for years practicing on these courses. Not meaning to knock them at all but it sucked to play with them. Sure, I'm not on their level but I feel like you can easily split players into skill divisions so that everyone can have fun. I definitely understand many players would want to play a few more rounds after speedball practice but just adding even one more ref to deal with the higher end players as as their own group would have made several more players experience significantly better. There was a clear divide in skill amongst the players that could have been dealt with easily. Take those speedball players who are clearly familiar with the rules of the sport and let them play some small scale competitive rounds against each other instead of letting them light up amateur/rental players who are busting their wallets to play only to get blown up by them. Sure, some of that is due to lack of experience and being unfamiliar with the layouts I met plenty of great people until the cocky speed ballers who we couldn't even come close to matching turned up in our rounds. I'm just saying that maybe don't let sponsored/semi-sponsored/ extremely serious players walk on with walk ons. It's clear these semi pros could take off to and empty field and manage themselves instead of ruining everyone else's experiences. When they showed up it felt like they had paid 8.99 for an all you could eat buffet. But because they were buds with the staff they were allowed to join and tear everyone up. I'm not trying to be a jerk. Mad props to those guys and if you listen and watch there is plenty to learn from them. They play hard. But it wasn't exactly fair match for other paying customers. All said and done, I met some really cool people today and enjoyed discussing gear and strategy with them. It's a fun community. I hope to play with y'all again. Cheers! read more

1/29/2017 First time to paint ball, we had a good time. We went for a birthday party, our party host was a nice fellow, kind respectful and courteous. I am not going to lie I had a blast paint balling and yes I'll go back. Nevertheless, I'm giving this place a 3 rating for the following reasons: 1. Because I have never been before I have nothing to compare it to. 2. It was dirty there were many broken tripping hazards outside of the field in the commons walking area. 3. The rent equipment was over used, and worn out, the face masks we passed from users to users with out cleaning or sanitation and for the money you spend doing this it's expensive my husband and I spent $66 dollars which was a discount due to that was a party rate. Remember to bring some Lysol wipes. 4. The dumpsters were near the picnic area, they were over flowing onto the ground. 5. MOST IMPORTANTLY one field was wet and smelt like the runoff from a dumpster. Fortunately for us we brought a change of clothes so we could drive our cars home. If your having a party bring your own wipes because they don't have facets or sinks to wash your hands. Also there is a near by Domino Pizza that delivers. Do you ever wake up in the morning, sign into the PBnation forums and maybe read an old baller's ramblings about the "good ole days when you could bring your own paint, pick up the sport cheap and fast with a couple of new friends, maybe even start a team together in the local league"? Yeah, those guys are talking about AWESOME places like this. Paintball Zone naturally emulates a time when paintball was less technical and more fun/sport oriented! Every weekend when i walk on to that field, I feel like im walking into my own backyard with my homies and we're about to get downright MESSY out there today, playing some good ass paintball with my low quality paint that i buy every weekend for just the occasion! B) Speaking of quality, the referees and attendants here at Paintball Zone really understand the sport and its players. They know the game modes that we want to play, they know the arenas that we want to use, and they know how to give the players the experiences that they pay for. If your equipment is malfunctioning, its almost never a problem here, not only will they lend you spare rental equipment with practically no questions asked, they will also help you to learn how to fix your own gear and give you informed suggestions concerning maintenance so that you can master paintbaltech by yourself. As a fair warning, Id say this place is not exactly the best for first timers who are prone to accidents or who are somewhat scared when it comes to physical contact sports. You definitely need to know what to expect when you walk on; this spot(and many others, this is a generalization and the same could be said about almost any other outdoor pb field) can have somewhat treacherous terrain due to standing rainwater, mud, sometimes extreme heat, and not to mention the handful of experienced players who frequently play at this location every weekend. This can be a lot to handle for younger/newer players who have never even been eliminated before, but if you've played paintball anywhere beforehand and you kinda know what to expect, then you really have nothing to worry about! I have no complaints regarding this field, it is a precious gem of the Houston Paintball scene and I think every paintballer needs to give it try at least once! read more

The first time I went it was a lot of fun, the main downside was the masks are unbelievably foggy at times and if you use any of their rental equipment the quality is dubious at best consistently. But I can look past that, my ref was amazing and made the entire time fun and lighthearted. The issue that gives this place two stars is how hit or miss the fun will actually be. The referee makes or breaks your experience. A good reference means you can overlook any trivial bad experiences. But if you're like me and my party and get a lazy ref it completely kills the mood. If I'm spending money for four hours of play time and I see my ref messing around doing nothing while I'm waiting to get my money's worth, I just won't stand for it. If you get a ref named Marcus, ask for a refund. Every match was as convoluted as possible, half the time Marcus was impossible to find. He, unlike most of the competent referees there, didn't dress in any distinct clothing and it was difficult to tell where to go when I was out and my party received little to no help throughout the entire experience. It put a damper on the mood and I'm going to have second thoughts about coming back. It was disappointing that two polarizing experiences could be at the same place. If you want a guaranteed good time, I urge you to go somewhere else. read more

We had a birthday party with kids ranging in age from 7-11 and every single kid who played came out crying. The adults had welts (even one was bleeding) where they were hit. Low impact was a joke! They don't test the guns to check the impact. We waited 2 hours for paintball. They were very unorganized. The party lasted 4 hours because they were so unorganized! read more

I went to the North location and it was pretty good but not that many maps, we played the same map over and over again but different game modes. I have been paint balling for a long time and hopefully this review will help you make a educated decision. I am going to give you a honest review and what to expect if you decide to go. First off you will have different experiences depending on if you are playing with a private group or with the main group. A must is getting your own mask even if it is a cheap mask just to try out paint ball. The masks at the fields are usually in really bad shape. There are a lot of factors that speed up and slow down the time you have to play so that is for another time. But I will give you a quick breakdown of the two groups. Private group. You will have a private ref and only play with your group. The group decides the game type and courses that y'all play on. The costs can be significantly lower with a group because you get a group discount on rental markers. One problem with a private group is that they limit group times to four hours. Your time starts at 10am or 2pm. Take I. Account that paying, filling air tanks and getting ready all eat into your time. Expect to only get about 2 1/2 hours of actual play time. Main group. You will be playing with everyone that decides to walk on. This a good and a bad thing. There are more people to play with but there is also a lot of cheating that goes on in a big group(paint wiping). If you do not have your own marker the cost gets a little expensive because if you rent you have to buy their paint as well. The rental marker is only good for half the day, so if you want to play all day you will have to pay twice. If you have your own marker you are good all day. You will be playing games that are mainly set by the ref. Now a couple comments on the facility itself. The fields are pretty lame for the amount of money they make at this location. Most fields are run down except for a few sheets of OSB board that are now a house. If it rains, expect to be completely soaked because a few of the fields hold a lot of water. House course and spool course. The refs are hit and miss, occasionally you get a really good one that helps keep the speed of play up so you get the most possible out of the day. Some people just don't care about the facility and will pay and play anywhere. This is one of those places that will make due if there are no other options. This review is mostly meant for the adults because as I know from my son. It doesn't matter where he plays at, he has fun anywhere. read more

Had a great time and awesome facility to play at. With that being said, I give it 3 stars because one ref that was red headed wasn't ready to help us. During matches he would take 20 minutes to get us to the next game. Meanwhile the customers are ready to go and the ref is just on his phone. Even the heavier ref told him something about being on the phone. Management, I would definitely address this because if it wasn't for the delay I would have given 5 stars. This is my first paint balling experience so I don't have good background knowledge. The place is stinky and dirty. The boys had a lot of fun though. Suggestion...bring your own mask. The smell... First thing you will notice when you walk around the vicinity. The staff are nice and some are helpful. Field have a nice scenario game play for all levels of experience. Not sure how long they have been in business, but it'll be great if they have some updated rental gear. The masks and vest are noticeable that it has gone through some use. We spent more time following the ref from field to field than actually playing. The place is dirty. The air ball field was covered with paint balls. Here's a suggestion, have field coordinator with a walkie talkie and a give each ref a talkie. Have the coordinator move the teams around the fields; making sure everyone is playing. When the ref's aren't refereeing, try a little trash detail? Guys, the more time your customers spend playing, the more paint you will sell. Clean up the air ball field weekly at least. Daily would be better. read more

I've been to plenty of fields in the Houston area and the staff at Paintball Zone are the worst. I asked to pay and the girl at the desk said to come back in 20 minutes because she was busy. After waiting I went back and she said that they didn't have guns to rent (there were at least a dozen sitting in plain sight) and said to just wait 30 minutes more and something might turn up. The whole time the staff were sitting there texting and chatting instead of doing anything to help the situation. We ended up going to a paintball field 20 miles away because I couldn't stomach handing these people any of my money. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Our very first experience was not a pleasant one. After reading the "about" section, it said the facility catered towards first time and avid players! A LIE! It said if we where not part of a group we would be placed with first time players as well or others of the same group, ie a LOW VELOCITY field. We showed up with our son who is 9 and has never played and told we needed to be part of a group of 10 (have made a reservation). No where on the website did it say this. (Which I have a screen caption of). After driving 20 min to be disappointed we took our money elsewhere. IF they cater to the first come players and kids who are as young as 5 then they need to designate a field for that purpose. If they do not then they need a major update on their website that says they DO NOT cater to kids as young as 5 unless it is a private reservation! We will be taking our money elsewhere when we decide on a birthday venue. read more
