The people at this club know the right kind of personal to hire, and the right kind of members to take in because every time I am here with my family friends and other friends who are members, I always have a wonderful experience. Brae Burn also has the perfect mix of golf, and social events, which is perfect for a country club. Not to mention a beautiful pool and tennis facility not far from the clubhouse. Also with indoor simulators for the winter months! Would definitely recommend if you live in the Newton area if your looking to join a country club. There's something for everybody!

The course is always in pretty good shape for a city muni, and the setting around the reservoir adds a nice peaceful vibe. You can easily get in 9 holes after work or on a summer morning and feel like you got your golf fix without committing to a full day. That said--be ready for a wait if you go on the weekend. It's a popular spot, and pace of play can slow down during peak hours. Booking ahead is a must. Overall, a fun and challenging course with some real architectural pedigree. As other reviews have mentioned, it does lean towards beginners. For myself I'm looking to cross country ski for maybe a couple of hours at most and I don't go that fast so Weston Ski Track is perfect for me. They offer a range of lessons for both kids and adults and for classic touring and skating styles. I took a classic touring class recently and had a fun time. The day passes are only $13 and you can purchase them ahead online. They also offer rentals. Plenty of parking, very friendly staff, and helpful signs on where to pick up passes and rentals.

I felt a little different and couldn't pinpoint it at first, but then I look back and saw it: my feet, flat on the floor. A wave of an absolutely awesome feeling washed over me. I felt like one million dollars. And now, the brief story of how I got this place where I never thought I'd be: Sarah, Jenn and Karma (the three instructors who's classes I attend most) have been amazing all in different ways, but essentially have been welcoming, helpfully adjusting me along the way, providing a sanctuary of calm, a center of learning without judgment and encouragement when it's needed the most. Though I'm still in my very newbie stages, I've come to learn some terms, feel more comfortable with myself in my practice and even sometimes try the every-so-slightly more advanced poses, though I still always take a spot at the back of the room. I'm worried that more education may simply exacerbate the situation and their inflated self-images. And that's my non-judgmental vew. Namaste. But, worse yet, for me, is that these future Beacons of Light may be on the mat right next to me. I'll have to keep at least one eye open during savasana from now so that they don't snatch my soul. What a crew of poseurs. Uh...namaste. Some of the instructors have sadly moved on, only to be replaced by new, equally great ones. I can't comment on instructors who teach during daylight hours on week days, so my comments are about teachers who teach either at night and/or on the week-ends. Among recent instructors whose classes I've taken and like are: (1) Bethania Bacigalupe - yoga at 8:30 pm is terrrific. Bethania avoids amping your nerves by avoiding the poses that are the equivalent of a few shots of espresso. (2) Mickey Barr - his classes have a nice rhythm and are challenging, particularly if you try to follow his lead too far. (3) Jenn Pici Falk - Like other great instructors, she offers variations and options for poses to students who are at different levels. While I always opt for the simplest pose and the path of least resistance, she makes everyone comfortable in whatever asana variation they've chosen. So if you're in child's pose while everyone else is in pincha murayasana, that's the right place for you. BTW: the new sauna is great, although it makes the locker room even smaller. But it's a worthwhile trade-off. I've gone to KYS consistently for the last two years. Class sizes ebb and flow depending on the instructor, time, class, and whether local colleges are in session. While I like small classes, this is a business. The instructors and the studio make more money when more folks are in class. So a class of 6 can't be a happy sight for the studio or the instructor even though the students think it's great. Yet, the instructors, for the most part, are unbelievably gracious about the prospect of working for an hour+ for less than minimum wage, maybe the cost of a small latte (not grande), or a medium BerryLine (no sprinkles though). The most packed class I've been in was 31 in the downstairs room on a Saturday. The front desk will cap class attendance, but at anything more than 20, classes can seem a little cramped. The instructors generally adjust poses when there are space limitations, but full classes are relatively rare. If they happen, it's usually on the week-end and specific to a class, time, and/or instructor. Try to be happy for the instructor when the class is full as that means that for an hour or so s/he may actually make a living wage. Being a yoga instructor and/or running a studio seem to me to be a tough business. I don't see any of them driving a Benz or living the 1% Life. Don't begrudge these working people a living. Just a thought: be nicer to the folks at the front desk. They have a tough, demanding, thankless job. Show some class and respect when you interact with them. They aren't the help even though they want to help you. On a less inclusive note, it's very irritating to have folks roll in after the class has started. It's disruptive and insulting to others in the class and the teacher. My wife's instructor used to lock the door when class started. I don't think KYS will go that route, but it would stem the flow of the self-absorbed late-comers.

After a few sessions in the M2 class, I felt she was ready to move up to M3 and asked if she could be placed there. I was told she was definitely ready, though it felt odd that this recommendation hadn't come from the instructors themselves. Usually, I would expect the teachers to initiate a level change if a child is ready. Still, we moved her up and she did fine. A few weeks later, I noticed an unexpected ~$300 charge from Goldfish on my credit card. I called and emailed multiple times and didn't get a straight answer until someone finally explained that M3 is more expensive than M2, and I was being charged the difference. No one had told me this in advance when I spoke with them earlier about changing classes. Furthermore, the Goldfish website does not state that the $1,040 package is not a flat rate for all classes over the 6-month session. When I asked to cancel the remaining sessions and withdraw early because of this unexpected charge, I was told that refunds aren't allowed and Kya had to finish up her package. My follow-up email was ignored. Needless to say, I'm disappointed in how this school handles pricing and communication. Finally, I initially enrolled my toddler in these lessons so she'd become more comfortable in the water and learn to swim or float. After spending $1,300, she still doesn't like putting her face in the water and hasn't made meaningful progress with swimming or floating.
