By far the worst course I have ever played in my life. staff are extremely rude for no reason and clearly hold themselves to the lowest possible standard. There are patches of dirt and mud in every single fairway and the course was underwater despite the fact that it hadn't recently rained. there weren't even signs telling you what hole it was and the yardage for a few holes. If you are looking to play and this is the only place with open times... there's a reason for that. Don't waste your money play real golf somewhere else.complete rip off. read more

A golf course that is convenient if you live in Brookline. Other than that, there are many better options. Waiting times in between holes is way too long especially in the warmer months. There are no rangers on the course to deal with slow play. If you were to call the pro shop and tell them play is slow, they may say they'll send someone out... doesn't fix the problem! Have played 5+ hour rounds more than once. Customer service is okay at times, but I have had a number of experience where employees were incredibly rude. Overall, the greens are okay, but the course is usually in terrible shape, especially after it rains. It turns into a swamp. Would definitely recommend playing elsewhere if your looking for a more enjoyable experience and a better course. As well as friendlier people. read more

I live in Chestnut, and since it's close I play there a lot, even though service and course are a bit more desired. First, there are several greens placed up on the hill which makes you walk up at about a 30-degree angle and walk down, simply. you can notice they are trying t clam in more holes rather than following the natural hill landscape. Thus, sometimes why are the greens 90 degrees turned into the side of the course? 2nd besides rough grounds (easy to lose balls) and grounds are not that well taken care of. Middle of the fairway, you would often see 'construction' tapes blocking off the normal straightaways. I saw that for months, meaning they are not working on it but it's just a wet spot letting it rott. 3rd, 4th, 5th...10th....let me get to the last one. People work there Jackal and Hyde, one day they are nice one day then they are the worst non-reasonable people you'd ever run into. For example, I asked for a cart around 5:00 pm, "No we can allow cards after 4:40 pm" Then what do I see behind me, 2 carts with 4 people? Another one, it rained and I had to reschedule, you can't reschedule for Monday because it's a holiday. What... "yes, we are closed". What..." And we gave you a discount". I said "I can simply pay the difference", and "Oh, we can't do that". what weird logic they have. Obviously, I would never play there anymore, 10th strike you are out. Best of luck to anyone who plays there for bad courses and bad people. read more

This course sits adjacent to The Country Club. Think of it like the fat around a steak. The staff are rude, the course is not well kept and I could be wrong, but I think it's known as the home of goose shit. Oh and the green fees are laughable. They also won't even entertain a refund, even if someone can't make it because of Covid. So my $85 5-hour round turned into $125. Soooo worth it. read more

Greens were in decent shape. Staff sucks. Fairways are bad and generally can't play 18 because of water pooling. Play elsewhere.

Just walked 9 with my wife in 1 hour 45 minutes. Tees and greens were in great shape. You can tell they are putting a lot of work into the course. Didn't use the range but it was busy so they must be doing something right. For a public municipal course I couldn't expect anything more. read more

In the past this course has not been in the best condition. Although it is early in the year it looks like the greens keeper is doing a better job this year. The price is a little steep for the actual course, but if you factor in the proximity to the city it makes plenty of sense. The course is certainly a challenging yet playable layout. With the exception of some muddy patches and the Sandy pit on the first hole you can have quite the pleasant round of golf. read more

For a municipal course, it's fine. For $65, the cart paths and fairways could be a little more well kept. Oh well. The food is pretty good, actually, and fairly priced. The burger comes with a fried egg on an English muffin, the bratwurst on a buttered roll, and the onion rings made with beer batter. Speaking of beer, the selection and prices are great. I didn't care for the 1/3 refund when it rained and they told us it'd be another 45 minutes until we could go back out. Mind you, the rain had stopped an hour before that. They do not refund for carts and only half the greens fee when it rains. I'll be back because I like the course, but not if there is rain in the forecast. read more

Was visiting the area and decided to play. If your looking for 4-4.5 hour round don't go here. A lot of beginners and my round took over 5 hours and 15 minutes. The course was in rough shape but greens were decent. Couldn't tell the rough from the fairways. They need to get some rangers to push people along. We waited on every shot bc of the group in front of us took so long. They were a hole behind the group in front of them. It was a LONG ROUND I a did not expect. Stay away if you want a quick round and have other plans. read more

I am pleasantly surprised by the course conditions after having read some of the other reviews. For a municipal golf course I thought it was in very good shape. The guys inside were friendly and told me a lot of drainage improvements had been done over the past year. The price was reasonable, I believe it was a bit less than a few of the other city golf courses nearby. The layout was interesting and long enough to be a good challenge for a 7 handicap. My main interest is playing a course that offers enough of a challenge to keep me interested, while being affordable enough to play on a regular basis without having to hide the cost from my wife. I thought the course met all of those conditions. I will still run down to Plymouth and play Pinehills on occasion which is in terrific shape, but those courses are more than triple the price and about an hour away. The bottom line is the course is a fun track near Boston at a very decent price, I'll certainly return. read more

This is the new Leo J Martin! Wow... I have NEVER seen it this bad. What happened?!? EVERY fairway is burnt, dead grass, weeds in the fairway. The decent greens makes this place somewhat playable. Won't be playing here til they fix it up a bit. I'm pretty sure the city of Brookline can afford to put some money into this place. read more

NOT A GOLF REVIEW! What a great day I had out skiing yesterday afternoon. I have not been cross-country skiing in 10 years, used a pair of 33 year old 3 prong skis and flew the course. It was such a nice / close escape from the city and a real joy to see all the families and friends out. The full loop takes about an hour ( at intermediate level). Good parking - but no amenities are open ( bathroom/ food etc). Bring snacks and a thermos for cocoa / coffee. Dogs are welcome as well. I got to say, I was really surprised after playing here. I had played this course a couple of years ago and had a lot of issues-- drainage on the course was terrible and the staff just didn't do it for me. So, when my friend suggested a return visit *right* after the big rains that we had, I thought, for sure, it was going to be a waste of time. The first thing that struck me was the staff. I told them about my previous experience, and they explained that a lot of work had been done to improve the conditions of the course. All the guys (I think I had conversations with three or four) were really friendly and helpful. The course played much better than I had remembered it. And the drainage issue was much improved. The layout was pretty good-- some challenges, but nothing crazy (I play two or three times a week in the summer, but I'm by no means a pro). Long story short: Really solid course that was much cheaper than what I'm used to playing, you don't have to drive hours to get there, and the staff seems to be really improving its reputation. Avoid this course if it has rained in the last two weeks. There is absolutely NO drainage and you will have standing water on almost every hole. The course itself, however has a lot of character which I like. There are a lot of elevation changes, a variety of hole types, and an interesting layout. Close to Boston and pretty cheap. WIth a cart $30 during the week and $40 on weekends. There is no driving range, but it does have a nice chipping area which you can also use for a few bucks for practice without playing a round. read more

I played this course for the first time this year. I am giving it 3 stars because of the location and because the greens seemed to be in decent shape when I was there. I am tempted to give it two stars however because the fairways are atrocious. They are covered in geese poop and have huge dead spots and dirt patches. It wouldn't be horrible if it wasn't so expensive to play here, but at $60+ per round there are much better options around the area. read more

Good driving range but golf course deserves 0 stars. Fairways are in horrendous condition. You can hit ball straight down the middle of the fairway and still be playing on dirt, sand, pebbles, etc. I don't believe that they have an irrigation system. It sad because it could be a very good course with some investment. read more

This past weekend my siblings and I ran and hosted a charity golf tournament here. I can't say enough good things about the staff. From the pros to the Vine Grill, to the cart girl bringing us beer, everyone, it was first class, top notch and made OUR life easier. If anyone is interested in hosting a tournament, call them. worth it! 100% The golf course itself was pretty nice. Some wet conditions, but can't blame that on the course. Mother nature has the final say at times! Its a municipal course, so you don't expect it to be the same conditions as an expensive private course. but it is decent, well priced and overall a good experience. read more

Played this course a countless number of times. I've played just about every public course in the area (along with a few private) and I would say that this is the best bang for your buck in the Boston/greater Boston area. Not too challenging, so great for beginners, but also not a complete bore. Oh, and the best Golf Course food for a public course that I have experienced, hands down. read more

Not a bad course if you are seeking to smack some balls close to Boston. Umm... But yeah, it can get pretty backed up on weekends, but by the back 9 should be sailing along. Maintenance is what you'd expect for a muni. Employees are the old school guys who've seen it all twice and then some. Course is actually pretty challenging and all in all, worth checking out at least once. Bonus: the BLT wrap from the food cart was amazing and hit the spot. Have golfed here a number of times and the rudeness / arrogance of the clubhouse attendees never fails to surprise me. Course is nowhere near nice enough, pretty shitty relative to other nearby courses (newton commonwealth, George Wright, etc), to put up with an unpleasant staff. read more

This is legitimately the worst course I have ever played at. The owners should be thrown in jail for charging money to play here ($50 is ABSURD). There were probably about 15 holes that had no grass on the green. I also saw the snack cart girl crash into the group behind us at full speed. That's a first. Safe to say I'll never be back, and everyone reading this should avoid this place at all costs. Better off flushing your money down the toilet. read more

So last week on Monday morning I woke up early looking forward to playing my first 18 holes of golf this year. I went into their shop and upon paying $50 for a cart and 18 holes I thought that this course was going to be great. Some holes were great and some as others have mentioned had no grass on the greens. Definitely will not be back. The product was nowhere near worth the money they charged. read more

Haven't had the opportunity to play any holes here yet, but you can't go wrong with hitting some balls in the summer! $10 gets you a big bucket of about 75 balls. Only thing that can get a little tight is the parking, not a bunch of spaces, especially when you go during peak hours. read more

The Links at Putterham Bog and Goose Preserve are atrocious. If a single penny from greens fee revenue has been invested in the maintenance of this course, I'd be shocked. My threesome left after five holes of trudging through slop and four holes of burnt out fairways. We all lost our tee shots on nine somewhere in the epic pile of goose feces and storm runoff. I left this place liking both golf and humanity a bit less. read more

Putterham?!?!? More like Putter-SCAM! Hate to say it but this place isn't great. The private course probably gets their attention more than the municipal one that i've played on. Nice design but there is literally littered broken tees, branches, dried up swamp frickin EVERYWHERE! It's close to Boston but i'd say pony up a couple of extra bucks and go to Newton Commonwealth instead. The one saving feature for this course is that it's dirt cheap if you go during the week between certain times, then it's only like $38 with cart. Other than that it ain't worth it. read more

I played back in September and the golf here was decent for a public course. If this course were back home in Florida, where the weather is more conducive to maintaining a course in good condition, I might have given it two stars for the condition of the grass and the wet/bald spots, but I'll give this one a bit of a pass. Also, the pace of play was not too slow and I liked the design of some of the holes--especially the incorporation of varied topography (and maybe this excited me too much since once again I'm used to relatively flat Florida courses). The price was decent too, so when it get's warmer I'll be back, especially since there don't seem to be many public courses around and I'm sure as hell not a member at any private ones. read more

Played this course for the first time last summer (2015) and was surprised at the quality and price of the round. Took a lesson there a few months later and again was quite pleased even with some holes clearly needing some TLC. So overall I had a positive outlook on this course. A few weeks ago me and my buddies decided to play a round on short notice. The only course with available tee times was brookline and I thought it was a no brainier... Boy was I wrong, the first tee box is located 1/3 down the fairway as they're doing massive construction to put in what looks like a brand new driving range. The course as a whole was in terrible condition, greens were sometimes patchy and the fairways were barren. Rough was insanely long to the point it looked like laziness on the groundskeeper's part oh and there was goose shit all over the place. Don't know what happened to this place or maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention last year but I would not recommend this course to anyone unless you have a gift card. Advice to management: This course has so much potential take a tiny fraction of the $50,$60,$70, you're charging per round and put that into the course conditions. You'd be surprised how much people will spend on beer and food when they're playing on an above average course. read more

I have been playing at Newton comm lately, and have been dissatisfied. After stumbling upon Brookline Putterham, I was very impressed. Not only were the fairways long and in decent shape, but the staff was very friendly. On the 7th hole, I pulled a muscle in my back and had to stop. I went into the pro shop and got reimbursed almost all of my money. Very impressive customer service, I will definitely be back! read more

i used to golf here a lote 4-5 years ago. it was never top nothc condiotns but for a municipal course it has a great layout and conditoin were fair except after rain. i stayed away the last 2-3 years becasue it got even worse, playing golf on dirt just bad. well it looks like they did a little facelift. some new signage, some acytual grass. i was surprise to see the course in the conition it as in last weekend. it was playbale. i mean 2.5-3 stars of 5 but from what it has been it has gotten better and i highly enjoyed my round for it close to my house and easy to go to. i am happy to say i am back playing hear again, i hope they keep of the good work maintaining the course but only time will tell when the hot weather gets here but if you havent gone in a year or 2 becase of condiotns, i say give it a try. great layout, decent condtions, good customer service. not bad for $40 walking on a saturday mroning. sorry for the typos read more

This is by far the worst course I have played in years. Other than the greens being in great shape - the course is just above trash - barely fairways, slow play with several 'starters' and 'rangers' who are near useless in keeping the up the pace of play. I will never play this course again - unless they drop the price to around 30$ - its not worth much more than that. I also enjoyed the grounds keeper who did not stop watering the green, or move the hose which was across the green, while we were playing the hole. Bravo ! read more

Great place for Geese and Ducks and. the only birdies we saw were the turkeys. This place is all wet. Ok that being said , I went three times this summer and if the weather has been good, they really do try to tend to this place properly. The best part is that there is a beer cart and one of the gals knows enough to stay out of my back swing. From here I will gladly pay $5 for Bud Lite read more

My friend was up from CT and suggested we play a round of golf. Now, I had only played a round of golf ONCE before... and it was the week prior. But, why the hell not, right? So he makes a reservation through some golf app and on we go to Brookline. Well, he accidentally made the reservation for the next day. It was a Saturday and it was BUSY! BUT - the good men here slid us in to our 2:40 tee time without issues. We played 9 of the holes and we were paired up with really nice guys... so the day was a win. Since I'm a chick and not a golfer, there's really not much more to say. Note: No beer carts. That's sad. read more

I understand that it's a muni, but the course was in horrible shape when we played last week. There's no sign of drainage, so the fairways were pretty much totally underwater. I know there was a lot of rain, but other courses in the area are in MUCH better shape. The greens were rolling/bouncing at about 2 on the stimpmeter, and were basically unputtable. I think they would have been better off closing the course for another few weeks to let things dry up, instead of getting people to pay for this awful golf experience. read more

The course is actually well-designed and a great layout. Unfortunately it's kept in terrible condition. If you don't mind then you should enjoy the course- nice variety and you'll use most clubs in your bag. Avoid after rainstorms because it has absolutely no drainage. Pace of play here isn't as bad as other munis. I go in knowing what to expect so usually enjoy my rounds here. read more

We played here yesterday, the course is in better shape then it has ever been, but it also has not rained much this year. The persons running the course need customer service training. There was NO drinking water any where on the course (90 degrees and sunny) no cart service until after 3:00 pm. No excuse for this. The club pro obvious does not think us old duffers need to know where the pin is located on the greens. all the flags are the same color and has no indicator flags. If you pay to ride, be prepared to walk all holes are cart path only. For the price its no bargain. We won't be playing here again soon. ESM read more
