We love that we don't have to think about what's for lunch, come up with new ideas, shop, or prep -- something new is delivered weekly to our door every Tuesday (delivery days vary). It's healthy and it's way cheaper than three fast-food or restaurant salads! Despite being a pretty seasoned veteran of Southern Maryland tourism, I managed to drive past this…read moreplace until now. That's because it is a pretty significant detour from anything else, even the small settlements and local attractions elsewhere in the area. Upon arriving I was offered the choice to roam the grounds for free or pay to get inside the lighthouse and museum exhibits, which I did. It's a small museum covering a couple of rooms, but does have some interesting bits. Notably, there is apparently a sunken German U-boat offshore, a relic of military experiments conducted on it after it was surrendered to the U.S. military. But you can't see the real thing unless you're an expert diver. The lighthouse is quite tiny as these things go, and you can't see a ton from it. There's a brief tour of the neighboring quarters as well. There was another building of exhibits that I didn't visit. There is a beach; it is quite tiny but there isn't a ton of public land on the lower Potomac. Notably, the houses one drives past on the way in have their own little stretches of beach which appear to catch some nice breezes. The river is quite estuarine at this point. As with a lot of little attractions down this way, I'm not mad that I stopped and took a look, but I don't think that you'll miss a ton if you see the sign on route 4 and keep driving. I'm glad the site is preserved for public use. Notably, there's also a large and free picnic area.

I personally know the owners and they are extremly ethical and humane when it comes to their husbandry of their poultry, hogs and goats. They practice regenerative agriculture, rotate their animals on pasture and forestry and reseed with a variety of cover crops that addresses the needs of the soil. They supplement the natural forage present with non-GMO feed. When it comes to quality, you get what you pay for and the quality of their meats, eggs and cheese far exceeds that in the the grocery store. It is hard to narrow their meats down to a favorite, but ours is the pork loin, ribs, bacon, breakfast sausage links and their pork belly. I will stack their pork loin up with any in the world for flavor and tenderness. Their Chèvre melts in your mouth. I've never liked goat cheese due to the goaty taste and smell, but their cheese from their blue ribbon goats have absolutely no goaty smell or taste due to the cleanliness in their milk parlor. We visited Victory Crest Farms to see their beautiful Highland Cows , bunnies and their pigs. A…read moresmall farm tour was what we expected but not what we received! The kids learned so much about the cows, were able to pet and brush Theo who is a very handsome Highland. We also go to meet the goats, the new baby chicks, the horse named Pudgy and 2 great pigs Jasper and Jackson. The highlight was also learning how to pick up and hold the bunnies to keep them safe. We all got bunny cuddles with Bluebell and Buttercup! Our family will definitely be back to the farm. We all learned so much and they have 4 (maybe 5?) pregnant cows so we are looking forward to meeting the new babies. We highly recommend this farm for family farm tours, homeschool groups, photography sessions and more. We also learned about their farm fresh eggs and their soon to be up and running farm store!
