Though the clinic has grown with time, adding another full-time vet, the service is always personal and complete. Everything is explained fully, options are explored to make an informed decision as to the course of treatment which is best for your pet and your family. The fees are reasonable and the service excellent. You are as involved in your pet's treatment as you wish to be (some people don't like to see blood draws or even claw trimmings--you don't have to if you don't want to.) I'm on my second diabetic cat, and after 6 months we are seeing if he can be taken off of insulin. When my eldest male cat (15) was brought in by a neighbor, deathly ill, I was contacted as soon as they scanned his chip because they knew how important he was too me, and that I would be likely to want to save him if possible. When it turned out that he could not be saved, he and I made the decision to euthanise immediately to avoid prolonging his suffering. The vets and staff were very supportive in helping me make and implement this painful but necessary decision. He was peacefully and painlessly assisted while I held him on my lap and said goody. When my parent's elderly beagle became ill, and we were unable to find a cause for several months, when it became obvious that she was failing her illness was pared down to 2 possibilities, both of which were incurable, I monitored her quality of life for several weeks until it was obvious that she was no longer a happy beagle (a beagle dragging it's tail between it's legs i a very unhappy beagle!) When I took her in to be euthanized, Dr. Brakeen and staff were very sensitive to my feelings and my dog was quietly and peacefully assisted in a quick and painless death. Dr. Brakken always listens to whatever research I've found regarding aliments of y animals, and does a good job of researching anything she's not already familiar. In 57 years of owning pets, there is only one vet I have had who might surpass Dr.Brakken--but only because she was willing to make a 30 mile trip out to vaccinate my cats...and she left practice to teach at the UW-Madison Veterinary Hospital. I wholeheartedly recommend Brakken to anyone who cares about their animals as part of their family--they will receive treatment with every bit as much consideration (maybe more) than your family doctor.

However, he ADORES other dogs, and his favorite thing in the whole world is being around them and playing with them. It's hard to travel with Benji and he'd struggle if I left him with a dogsitter, so when I had to leave for a weekend recently I decided to try boarding him. Since K9-Playtime includes daycare (a full day of socializing and playing with the other dogs) in their boarding package, they definitely seemed like the best option for Benji, but I was still nervous about how he'd do. The staff at K9-Playtime were super communicative, helpful, and lovely! They asked lots of great questions about Benji's behaviors in different situations to see if daycare and boarding would work for him. I brought him in for a couple partial days of daycare to test things out, and the staff were awesome with Benji and he loved it there! They said he was great with all the dogs and staff members and gave him the OK for boarding. The whole weekend I was waiting for a call saying that he was anxious and needed to be picked up early, but I was so surprised and relieved that Benji spent the whole weekend at K9-Playtime with no issues and actually had a really fun time!! He was happy and exhausted from playing when I picked him up, and honestly seemed sad to leave all his new friends! He just played with the other dogs all day long while he was there, with breaks for meals and snacks, and by bedtime he was too worn out to be anxious (or conscious lmao). They posted a picture on their social media that includes him, and he just has the biggest goofiest grin on his face as he's running around with the other dogs! I definitely recommend checking out K9-Playtime if your dog is anything like mine! It's so nice to have them as an option for Benji if I need to work a long day or travel. They allow unaltered pets and judge based on their personality and ability to play well with others. Which our dog does really well. He's a lover. We do have days once or twice a week and he's worn out. Definitely gets a full four hours of play in. Super friendly and honest staff. Our pup gets lots of love there and exercise. I cannot express this enough, DO NOT go here. We paid $1200 for our dog to not get spayed, but…read moreinstead they almost killed her. They also told us she had kidney issues which we have gotten a second opinion and absolutely nothing is wrong with her and she has also since been spayed with zero issues. We were quoted her spay to be $750 and her 8 teeth that needed to be pulled another $750-$1350. This all cost us $590 elsewhere in the area. As I left with my dog after paying, I was told at least she got her nails trimmed (she sees a groomer every 6 weeks, she didn't need a nail trim). Her follow up email also said they were "happy to have achieved a positive outcome that day!", what that you didn't kill her?! Please save yourself the trouble and money and go elsewhere.

They make you feel stupid. When I brought my dog in it was for allergies. He itches himself a lot and has bad ear buildup. The vet basically went on and on about what I was doing wrong, sold me a product that cost me $200 (and I later found out had the same ingredients as a product I can buy at a pet store for $20) and then took my dog in back to clean his ears. I proceeded to sit through 10 minutes of what sounded like a dog being tortured. I had no idea what to do. I wasn't sure if it was my dog I was hearing or what. I was beside myself, tearing up. Finally the vet pops her head back in and tells me not to worry, another dog was getting a bone popped back into place. Um, even so, I don't want to sit and listen to what sounded like an animal being tortured. I promptly switched back to my New Richmond vet. The drive is worth going somewhere that actually cares about animals and doesn't overcharge you on products. Nor have I ever had to listen to animal torture with them.
