My working dogs are now utd on their shots and looking forward to a snowy winter caring for their charges. My pets are utd and everyone's happy & healthy now. Im glad I found this vet clinic. Moving to a new state and not knowing who to go to, not having anyone to ask, not being able to go into the building with your pets or be able to witness their interactions with the staff due to the Covid virus makes it all more stressful. But I had no doubts as I handed the dogs off to the nice staff to take them in and then seeing happy pups returning with smiling staff members who sincerely looked like they love animals and enjoy working with them.

This clinic is rated by Consumer Checkbook as being #1 in the Southeast Metro area and #9 in the entire Metro area for quality and value--I can see why! My cat has been poked and prodded by several of the friendly, purrrfessional vets and vet techs at this clinic, and he and I like them all (as does my sister, whose cats also reluctantly visit this clinic). They are empathetic, gentle, and wonderful at easing your worry while explaining procedures. Not to mention they are experts at obliterating cats' stank breath! We have sent numerous other friends and family here...which is a 20-30 minute drive away from home town. While there are other veterinary clinics in Red Wing *shout out to The Bluffs for also having taken wonderful care of our family pets over the years*, paws-down we will visit the Hastings clinic first due to large cost savings ...about 2/3 to 1/2 of what you pay for office visits/teeth cleaning/extractions, etc.. elsewhere. I brought my dog in to have him neutered and it was a horrifying experience. He was dropped off at…read more8:30 am and they called at 1:30 pm stating that everything went well and that I could pick him up after 3 pm. My partner went in at 330 to get him and they carried him out and my partner said that his sack was the size of a soft ball. My partner asked them if that was normal, and they said it might be. The vet said they would keep him a little longer to see if it went down, well it didnt. They ended up having to go back in 2 additional times because he had internal bleeding. They were not able to locate it , so they ended opening his penis by cutting it from the tip to his sack and opened his stomach to check for bleeding. They never found where all the bleeding was coming from and they were not sure why he was swelling like that but said they gave him an extra stich to see if that helped. They called me multiple times throughout the day stating he should be fine but we are going to go back in. In all he went under 3 different times and nothing was found but he had stiches from his sack to his breast bone and along side his whole penis. They called me at 830 pm saying I had 3 choices, 1. pick him up and monitor him myself, 2. leave him there alone in a cage for the night, or 3. Rush him to the ER vet. I opted to take him home because I didnt want him to be alone overnight. The Vet who did the surgeries told me he didnt know what went wrong but asked me to call him if I take him somewhere else so I could tell him what they say the issue is. I feel like he didnt know what he was even doing. He came across very nervous and remorseful, he knew he made a mistake but didnt admit it. We didnt think he would make it through the night. He had to be carried home because he was so out of it and in pain he could not even lift his head. He still had blood sweeping through the stiches. Some weeks went by and he is still alive, but I will no longer use this vet because they butchered my dog and almost killed him. Also side note he had a Scrotal Hematoma and it happens when you mess up the neuter and they didnt need to cut open his penis or go into his stomach for that. This used to be my go to vet but their doctors have changed and not for the better. I also had my other dog put down here 2 years ago he was 14 and had cancer and they lost his ashes, so never going here again.

Dr Joy has taken care of our animals for as long as I can remember. They are always so patient and helpful - I always know that they will be there to help in whatever way that they can when we need them. This morning we had a minor emergency and they took us right in (knowing that I had driven over an hour) so that my cat could get the surgery for his abscess that he needed. They make you feel stupid. When I brought my dog in it was for allergies. He itches himself a lot and has bad ear buildup. The vet basically went on and on about what I was doing wrong, sold me a product that cost me $200 (and I later found out had the same ingredients as a product I can buy at a pet store for $20) and then took my dog in back to clean his ears. I proceeded to sit through 10 minutes of what sounded like a dog being tortured. I had no idea what to do. I wasn't sure if it was my dog I was hearing or what. I was beside myself, tearing up. Finally the vet pops her head back in and tells me not to worry, another dog was getting a bone popped back into place. Um, even so, I don't want to sit and listen to what sounded like an animal being tortured. I promptly switched back to my New Richmond vet. The drive is worth going somewhere that actually cares about animals and doesn't overcharge you on products. Nor have I ever had to listen to animal torture with them.

I can say to my dog, "we're going to the vet!" and her tail starts wagging because she knows she's about to be loved on, even when she needs to get s-h-o-t-s. Rivertown has not only been an amazing partner in my dog's routine care, but they're so flexible. They've fit us in for emergency visits (I have a dramatic dog, and I'm a worried dog mom), have let us pick up flea, tick, and heartworm meds quickly and without hassle, and even fit us in for a last-minute routine test when I didn't realize we were overdue! Maggie was spayed here by Dr. Garlie and I couldn't find her scar even if I tried. I've never seen a dog heal so quickly and without any issues at all! While the price may be higher than other local competitors, you truly get what you pay for here, which is incredible staff and service and knowledgeable, caring doctors who make each visit an amazing experience for your pet.

The Drs, Techs, and Front Desk Ladies are always great. Our concerns have always been addressed, the advice always helpful, and we feel we are part of the team. Dr. Laura Decker is wonderful to work with, and really knows Terriers! Westies can be pretty sceptical meeting a new person at eye level while leashed, she takes the time to let the dogs get to know her voice, and has a gentle touch. By the time she touches them they are eating treats out of her hand! This is a rare talent! We have encouraged our family and friends to make this Clinic a part of their pet's care.
